We always stay here whenever we visit Kyoto. Their price is great and people are super nice. They even have share kitchen and spaces to meet new people. Breakfast at the hotel restaurant is tasty too.

Stayed for three nights. Price was right and location okay. Room is comfortable and clean. Breakfast is Japanese-Western and sufficient. Lunches and dinners were available and adequate. Staff were very helpful. The hotel shows its age but remains a good choice in Kyoto.

The staff were friendly and very helpful. The room I wanted was not available for all of my stay but the staff accommodated me so I spent the first 2 nights in one room and the rest of the stay in the, cheaper, room I had originally wanted. The rooms were clean and well presented. The location is ideal, and...

Front desk and hotel staff were very warm and welcoming. They spoke a variety of languages (depending on the staff) and were more than helpful when we needed guidance, recommendations and directions. Location is excellent in Kyoto. It is near to a subway station, and a short walk to multiple bus stops that take you to almost all the prominent...

Looks nice from ground level. Very well located. Very nice and open reception service. But the rooms are terribly slow and not clean. Toilet small and looks like toilet in RV. I do not come back there again.

If you are looking for a budget hotel in central Kyoto, this is a good option. The location is 3 minutes from many buses and a metro station. Rooms are small but very clean and the shower is good though there are issues with its ventilation. Breakfast has both basic Western and Japanese options. When there is a group, places...

Clean, functional, small kitchen, English speaking staff, laundry facilities and great value. As most hotel rooms in Japan it is small but unless you are living in the hotel, who cares? We stayed for 2 1/2 weeks and found it a good central location, right next to a major subway station and all the major bus lines also cross the...

We've now been at the Palaceside for 9 days. A major drawing card for this hotel is the fact that English is spoken at the front desk, and the hotel restaurant offers quality traditional Japanese plus Western fare. Rooms are very small, dated, but clean. Service is outstanding....all in all this hotel is a very good value. Location is excellent...

I'm currently staying at this hotel - last of 3 on an organised tour. The hotel is basically clean with friendly staff, excellent free wifi in the rooms and the meals I've had quite good. But but again the rooms are really poor. Small and very dated. One reviewer refers to renovations being done but I see no evidence of...

Not sure of the star rating but for me its definitely a 2/3 *. Our room 439 and others were similar was very small. Nowhere to put the two large cases we had and also no drawers at all. There was a small hanging space near the door but the lighting there was very poor. We did have a sofa...

Staying in Nishijin District

Neighbourhood Profile
Nishijin District
A district with a long textile heritage, ancient Kyoto is still alive in the Nishijin District. Studded with its weaving factories, tea houses, and onsen, the neighborhood is charming and peaceful with a self-possessed air. Less traveled than other parts of the city, it is a district where you can take it at your own pace. Visitors can explore the many weaving and cloth houses, the free kimono shows, and the many shops selling traditional clothing and goods. Showcasing architecture with sloping roofs and wooden reliefs dating to decades past, the streets in the Nishijin District transport you back in time, making them a joy to wander.
