This guest house is set in a beautiful old building in Kyoto. The rooms are large Japanese style. The cafe downstairs is really cool and a great place to grab a drink after a day's exploring. We found the staff here went above and beyond. They offered some of the best restaurant recommendations we received, and went out of their...

I understand the place is old and budget, but why so dirty?! Some would call it "atmosphere", but I don't really think that's the case. Dust in the room, air condition machine probably never cleaned so rather dangerous to use. Odour from the toilets on the corridor. Mold around the wash basins, no hot tap water, only shower. Requires general...

I stayed at this place for 4 nights and the location is perfect for sightseeing and reaching nearby Gion for dinner. The dorm room is pretty basic and there's not much space, but the facilites are very clean and the common area/ café downstairs is a great hanging out space. The only downside is that you're supposed to take a...

This hostel is a nice change of pace from the usual 'bunk bed' scenario. The rooms are basically open plan but it's cool, the pictures are basically as is... The guys at the front desk are really easy going and good to help out! The cooking facilities aren't much so if you're planning on cooking your own food it'll be...

+ the staff was very friendly and helpful, the location is great, the room was big (we had a private one), nice athmosphere and great café downstairs, very good value for money - the room, kitchen and bathrooms were not always very clean, the walls are very thin, which may be annoying when people are noisy

Good location and great friendly staff. Very good value at about 3500 yen per night for a private room. Walkable from kyoto station and centrally located to many of the cultural attractions. Check-in is located at a central cafe and bar. Houses are in a very quaint and quite side street.

The woner has been building the business for years and happy to chat... one night they run out of our favorite curry but augmented our meal with charm...

We really enjoyed 4 nights in Kyoto - so much to see! Gojo guesthouse gave us a fantastic welcome and provided map, bus map, free drink voucher. You could buy bus ticket from them, and borrow umbrellas which was very helpful! The reason for 3 star rating is because the room was very basic - our door didn't shut very...
