There are great things about this hotel, there are not so great things as well. Some are solvable and some are not. First, great location. a few minute walk from Hankyu Karasuma Station and the Nishiki Market Street. It is an upscale hotel, with international staff that speaks good English. Rooms are very small however the bed we got was...

One of the reasons we booked this hotel is that it actually offered a triple room. The third bed makes the room very cozy, but it was nice to have separate beds for three friends traveling together. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. They are willing to hold your bags, allowing you to explore on the day of...

Fantastic hotel, centrally located, one block from a subway line that links to Kyoto Station. Also, the Pontocho neighborhood, the market districts and shopping areas are all within walking distance. And the biggest king size bed, ever seen in Japan or elsewhere, so if your'e tired of Tokyo's cramped sleeping arrangements, this is a great option. The breakfast spread has...

Great hotel, location was simply the best. Easy walking to museums, shrines, temples, restaurants and the Geisha district of Gion which is a must do. Room was good but don't book a King size as the bed is huge and took up most of the room, so big you could easily get 3 sumo wrestlers in there. Better to book...

This hotel was recommended to me by colleagues at the University of Kyoto. I was quite pleased, the room was larger than usual for Japan and the breakfast buffet was pleasant and never too crowded. The internet was reasonably fast and the location is really great. I would stay here again for sure.

Really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Staff was very helpful and friendly. The rooms and the reception area were very clean. It is located near the metro station and it is within walking distance to buses and busy areas of Kyoto. Didn't try the restaurant but would definitely recommend this hotel.

This was a very nice hotel. It was easy to get to all of the various sights and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was small though. It had a nice big bed but with very little room around it and generally poor storage (not unusual in hotels these days) and nowhere to hang coats (again not...

Stayed here for 5 nights and sadly it was not up to our expectations. Room is pretty small - opening up two luggage at the same time was an issue. Bottled water will not be replenished if you ask to make up your room fully. A particular staff we spoke to also had a nasty tone. Other than that, the...

The hotel is one block from one of the main subway lines (5min ride to Kyoto central station where trains depart for Osaka and Tokyo) and easy walking distance to the main shops and restaurant area. We loved the breakfast and the on site onsen, a perfect way to relax after a long day walking. The rooms were small, but...

A very nice experience, the hotel is in a good position, not far from the train station and the next underground station can be reached by foot. All rooms are very clean, a bit small but acceptable, considering Japanese standards. Breakfast has a ample choice of food both western and asian but the breakfast area is not well organized and...

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
