Excellent hotel. Large rooms. Very clean. Close to both subways and trains. Taxis cheap and easy to take to tourist locations from the hotel. Lovely and very helpful staff. One of the best hotels we stayed in Japan. Great onsen as well. We all loved this hotel and would give it a 5 star rating.

Lovely breakfasts, amazing Japanese and Western choices, and lovely decor, quite arts and crafts style. In the bar they had 1930s tea sets from Britain, which was nice to see! Rooms very comfortable, great location near metros and bus stops for sight seeing. Staff gave us a list of restaurants with English menus which was so valuable and we sought...

I found this hotel by searching the rating. The overall facility is well managed and location is convenient. The only issue or my personal issue (I am very sensitive to smell): the curtain in bath room is kind of odd or smelly because they use cloth type rather than those plastic curtain.

Very close to subway station, walkable distance to prime area including Shijo dori, Sanjo dori, 先斗町... Staff is nice and suggested and helped me reserved a nearby restaurant per my request. The hot spring facility is good. The chapel inside the hotel offers v nice atmosphere during Christmas!

I found this hotel on Agoda.com and stayed here with a friend during the last week of March just as the Cherry Blossoms were beginning to bloom. Location: You can't go wrong with the hotel's location. It is an easy subway ride from Kyoto Station and the subway stop is only 3 blocks from the hotel. There is a Starbucks...

Exterior and interior are both worthy of a look. BUT something are missing... Maybe we should put a book: "Le étrangers" In every corner ... That we are distant ... But we understand ... When a good hotel can read your mind, nothing you can say, right?

This large hotel in the centre of Kyoto is conveniently location for the subway train from Tokyo station. You can easily walk to the hotel depending on which exit you take from the station but there are steps to climb. The rooms are strangely decorated by Western tastes with a lot of pink. It felt a little bit old lady...

This hotel was well located in Kyoto, not far from a subway stop, and lots of restaurants. The room decor is kind of tacky, but the rooms and bathroom were fine. No breakfast was included but there is a starbucks across the street and lots of places around. There's a nice shrine across the road - we could see the...

If you have a map of Kyoto, place your finger in the middle, where this hotel located, not a tourist area, just normal folks carry on their daily life, therefore nothing compare to Kyoto station traffic, a taxi ride from Kyoto station about 1100 yen, the subway Karasuma line from Kyoto station in the 3rd stop, Karasuma Oike station, exit...

Hotel Monterey is my top pick in Kyoto and I keep on coming back every time when I visit Kyoto. I remember the first time I stayed here, I emailed the concierge to assist in booking several restaurants in Kyoto. Nowadays, many restaurants in Kyoto only accepted reservation via hotel for foreign visitors so the hotel assistance is really important....

Staying in City Center

Neighbourhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
