I have been to Kyoto several times and am familiar with the size of the hotel rooms which did not bother me. What made us upset was that they assigned us a smoking room infact the entire floor smelled of smoke. We went back to the reception but they said that they could not give us another room. They tried...

I'm a type of person who doesn't care much about the facilities of the hotel as long as they provide me with great services (I work in hotel too and I feel like good service wins over anything). As I stayed in Kyoto for 2 nights only and mostly spent my time outdoor exploring Kyoto, the narrow room and bathroom...

It's nothing special but it's a room. Staff are pleasant. Hallways are very noisy all night. Needs better carpeting in halls to soak up sound. TV is all Japanese so don't expect to be using that unless you're fluent. It's a bed for the night which is all memory foam. Only one pillow on a double bed. It's very thin...

Thanks for your review and your suggestion. We're sorry that we probably missed to inform you that we actually provide extra pillows at the lobby when you checked in. Guests can choose the type of pillows they like too. We hope you will visit us again when you are in Kyoto.

Yes the rooms are small, but there is always the beautiful view from 8F and sitting space, breakfast was fine. Staff were great, wifi worked well, laundry facilities excellent and best of all a ladies only bath. Oh and so close to the station. Worked really well for us

Thank you very much for the review. We too enjoy the beautiful view from 8F (observatory floor) in our annex very much. Kintetsu Toji Temple, the UNESCO World Heritage Site can be seen clearly from our hotel. We hope you will come back and stay with us again.

I stayed in Kyoto for 2 nights from Tokyo, the hotel is okay. I had to keep reminding myself that it is 3 star as the room is basic. The bed isn't the comfiest, however the location is great as it's only a 10 minute walk from Kyoto Station. The breakfast was surprisingly good as it catered to most people...

Thank you for the review. Our hotel location is very convenient for tourists. Other than Kyoto Station, AEON Mall and Toji Temple are also within walking distance from the hotel. We're glad that you're satisfied with our breakfast! Our team leader of the breakfast service is really happy to hear about this. In fact, one of her dreams is to...

Stayed in the annex building, room small but clean, you can hear people talking along the corridor and the room next to us. Going around Kyoto for a whole day so the noise did not bother us as we are all dead tired anyway. The buffet breakfast is OK, nothing special but the location of the hotel is great. 10...

Thank you very much for the review. We're happy to hear that you were able to travel like the locals. Google Maps is indeed the best app to use when we travel in a city that we are not familiar with. One of the highlights of our hotel is the great location, especially when you can get on the bus...

We booked two nights here and when we first entered the building, it was lovely and the staff were super friendly, what you'd expect in Japan. However, when we got our keys to our room, that was when it went downhill for us. The room was spacious but the bathroom was tiny but we were already use to that in...

We are very sorry for your experience at our hotel. The maintenance work in the main building is ongoing and we hope to complete the refurbishment as soon as possible. We hope you will come back to us again after we refurbish everything or consider staying at the new building (Kyoto Plaza Hotel Annex). Thanks for writing to us.

The hotel is near Kyoto station, about 10 min. on foot. AEON Shopping Mall is the next block. Though the building is old, the service is good. When checked-in, they provided welcome drink and snacks. Breakfirst was buffet. The menu was variety of food, including Japanese dishes.

Kyoto is our 3rd hotel in our Japanese holiday and we were shocked at the size of the room. It is sooo small. We knew Japanese rooms were small, but this is rediculous and for the price.... Compared to the lovely , and cheaper places we stayed in Hiroshima and Osaka. No room for 2 medium sized suitcases and bed...

My mother and I stayed in the annex building, and whilst everything was very clean and looked quite new it was a glorified shoebox. Coming from Australia our rooms are GIGANTIC (the caps are a necessity believe me) and whilst we found that rooms are generally a lot smaller here, this was by far the smallest we encountered. Also be...

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
