Amanruya lies in a quiet valley on Turkey's Bodrum Peninsula facing the Aegean Sea and bordered by a forest reserve. The surrounding native pines, aged olive trees and ocean vista contribute to the tranquil setting of this all-season resort. Comprising terraced buildings interspersed with courtyards inspired by traditional local architecture, Amanruya's proximity to the seaport city of Bodrum and ancient cities make it an ideal base for exploring the region's historic treasures as well as enjoying its natural beauty.

We stayed at Amanruya earlier this year. It is a very special place. The architecture is exquisite, the setting absolutely stunning and the staff are wonderful. I have no idea of the reality of the reviews below that seem a co-ordinated blasting of this resort. The nature of their reviews does imply, to me, that they are a rowdy, uncivilised bunch. What I do know is that Igor was absolutely wonderful, kind, and gentle in every interaction we had with him. I am sorry he is getting targeted like this.

Suffering from jet lag, I thought it would be the perfect time to write a review of my favourite place ever: AMANRUYA. From the minute you arrive at AMANRUYA you feel special. You are greeted with a drink and cold towels and taken to reception. I immediately noticed the beautiful stone work which took years to create. Every pebble you walk on was hand placed. I don't think any photos I've seen capture how beautiful and warm feeling this resort is. The architecture is serene and understated yet also quietly magnificent. It's important to know that the terrain is hilly and there are many small staircases to climb. I recently had knee surgery and it was a bit difficult for me, but I was happy to have the exercise! Hamza the front office manger, showed me some more accessible rooms that are close to the entrance and told me that they can pick you up in a golf cart and easily take you to the dining room and pool if mobility is a problem. They have a secret way of circumventing the steps. The rooms are huge and they were kind enough to put an extra single bed in the room for me as I was traveling with a friend and I didn't want to share a bed with her since we both snore! The bed is huge and comfortable. My favourite part is the curtain that you can pull all the way around the bed which makes you feel like you are sleeping in your own private cloud. I have to admit that it makes a great backdrop for doing shadow puppets so I couldn't resist putting on a show and my friend in the single bed had a good laugh. I love sparse minimal design, but the room could really use a Turkish Kilim (rug) on the floor to give it a bit of life and to make it feel like you are in Turkey. The rooms feel empty, like they're missing something. Hamza organized for Engin the kilim carpet vendor to come to the resort to show me some options because I'm super picky and wasn't happy with anything I'd seen in Turkey up to that point. I sent Engin a photo of what I was interested in (which was a more subdued 1950s colour palette) and Engin came with a whole stack of carpets to show me. He lent me three carpets for the duration of my stay so that I could see I I liked them. There was no pressure. The Kilims redecorated my Aman hotel room and wow, what a difference they made. The room came alive, it was an astounding difference. I think it would be great if the rooms all had a Kilim it took the room from fantastic to perfect! Hamza was there for us whenever needed. Anything we could think of, Hamza had a suggestion or a solution...really fantastic. Hamza organized a day trip for us on a traditional wooden Gulet boat that Bodrum is known for. We spent the day touring the Aegean near Bodrum. What a magical experience. The water was really warm and the sea is so salty that you bob around like a cork. We had a great time and swam to shore at one of our stops. The most hilarious part of the day was when I waved at a speed boat that was zipping by. The boat made a sharp turn and came over to us...I thought to say hello, but the man was selling ice cream. What a fantastic treat out in the middle of nowhere. It was an unforgettable day and I am so glad that Hamza suggested it. It's important to address the mosquitos, since someone else in a previous review had complained about them. I was there in late October which is the high season for mosquitos and I had very little trouble with mosquitos. I am a person that is allergic to mosquitos and I am usually the one that gets all the bites. Yes, I was bitten about 6 times, but the bites were tiny and not very itchy. For me the mosquitos at this time of year are not a problem at Amanruya. They were active right as the sun was setting and against my better judgment I sat outside during tea time. So here is my criticism, and I notice that I am not the only person who has noted that the food really needs improvement. I hope someone from AMAN reads the reviews, because it has been repeatedly commented on by previous guests and no-one seems to have done anything to improve the food. Breakfast is great. All Turkish breakfasts are usually great, but their traditional MENEMEN which is made of eggs, tomatoes and peppers was by far the best that I had in Turkey. The breakfast servers are far superior and much more friendly than the servers at night time. Sitting at dinner you need to notify staff that you are there. If you don't you will be sitting for a long time. Not only was the service at dinner awful, one of the waiters had a terrible attitude and on top of this the food was not great either. In fact it was mediocre, bland and uninspired and we ate three dinners here. Guests expect the food at an Aman to be incredible. The food should be equal to the architecture and the location which is incredible. In this instance it was not on par at all. What a disappointment. Until AMAN takes guests comments seriously, I suggest that you go elsewhere to eat any meal other than breakfast and since the hotel is about 22 minutes from Bodrum this is not a convenient option. The complimentary tea was a lovely touch. The pistachio chocolate cookies were one of the best cookies I've ever had. The other selections not quite as good. I do suggest a bit more variety at tea time. How about serving some traditional Turkish sweets? This is what the resort needs more of, when in Turkey give a bit more of a Turkish experience. I know I was there close to the end of the season, so I don't know what it is like there the rest of the year, but it would be great to incorporate some more Turkish elements. Turkish music? Turkish deserts? All in all I will definitely be back if they fix the food. In fact the restaurant is so isolated that they would have to fix the food for me to return. The resort is incredible, the people that work there are incredible and it's hard to leave knowing that in real life no-one is waiting by your car with a cold towel and a bottle of water. I was joking with my traveling companion that I wonder if it would be possible to permanently move into one of the guest rooms at Amanruya. As they say, I'll be back!

This October I went to Bodrum, looking very much forward to a pleasant stay with some very good friends at the Amanruya hotel. Check in was fine, and we got our rooms which was also perfectly acceptable. Then it turned sour. The service was atrocious, especially the GM Igor, who actually went as far as to make threatening remarks to several of my friends. It got to the stage where we no longer felt welcome, and were on the verge of feeling unsafe. This resulted in us leaving the hotel the next morning, and i think that it is safe to safe to say that we will never be returning. I hope this review is taken seriously so that the hotel can lift their service to a level fitting the Aman brand, this was utterly disgraceful.

We spent a wonderful week in Amanyura from October 12th to 19th. Everything was perfect for us. The incredible architecture of the resort, the light and delicate food, the wonderful Turkish wines. And the exceptional service, including Luna the domestic cat. The resort was not fully booked and the spacious, lovingly maintained complex exudes an extremely relaxed atmosphere. However, we only noticed briefly that guests had checked in who had confused this oasis of peace with a party location. The management, however, solved this in a timely and sovereign manner, which was probably also in the interest of the other guests. To make a long story short: we will come again next year.

Very disappointing experience at amanruya Bodrum in terms of the service I had received. The staff seemed to have no direction as we were a large group. When we had arrange drinks for our table and shots. When I was drinking my shot there was a large piece of glass which actually went into my mouth. Once I has realised i was horrified, as how could this been missed by the person who was MAKING our drinks? When this was bought to the staffs attention, it wasn’t taking seriously and no apology was offered or further investigation how this could have occurred. This was just the start unfortunately which later that night our group was told to turn down our music at our suite room at 9pm? The general manager attended to speak with us further, which he was rude, aggressive, and made threats against our group. I would avoid this place at all costs and would NOT stay here. There a far better hotels within Bodrum who are better equipped in terms of service and most important of all safety. AVOID 0/10

There are a lot of steps and stepping stone paths around the resort although the rooms themselves are all on one level. There may be rooms with wheelchair friendly access, but ours had steps up to it. I'd suggest contacting Amanruya direct.
