Detailed Reviews
Alta is one of the premier ski resorts in the US and the Rustler is the place to stay when you go, if you can afford it.
The staff's preternatural friendliness is attributable to good training and management but also to the fact that most of them get 100+ days of skiing a year. Food is well prepared and the menu changes enough to keep things interesting. Even if you are not travelling solo, try the Wasatch table. The experts in the ski shop can fit you with the right equipment to match your ability and the weather.

The Rustler is my happy place! My family and I have visited for twenty-five consecutive years, and it has never gotten old. Each staff member, from those who light the fires and clear away the “Apres Ski” dishes to the general managers, does their utmost to make every guest feel as comfortable as possible. The guest rooms and public areas could not be cleaner (pre-pandemic as well as during COVID-19), the food is superb and plentiful, and the overall atmosphere is one of fun and relaxation. The ski in/ski out location can’t be beat, and the ride to and from the airport is quick. In short — Alta’s Rustler Lodge — its facilities, its staff, its location — is a bit of heaven on earth!

The Rustler, simply put, is the perfect spot for total relaxation! While our family has been going to the Rustler for over 20 years during Christmas, a last minute post vaccine trip was even more remarkable. Their COVID19 safety protocols were of the same excellent quality as the food, staff, and ambience. We felt safe and comfortable at all times. The wipes in the elevators were a nice addition and made touching buttons stress-free.
The Rustler is a totally stress-free experience and the staff always succeeds in exceeding your expectations! They even know what you want before you do. They always deliver!
Thanks to Kate. Meg, Tom, Tauni, Rachael, Sheridan, Vicky, John, Paul and Seth-to name only a few of the outstanding people that contribute daily to making you feel "at home" at the Rustler.
See you in eight months!!

We have been at the Rustler several times and ski a lot in Utah and Colorado so I can reliably report on what is undeniably the best ski lodging experience in existence .
Once one shows up ( easy shuttle ride from airport ) everything is looked after. Ski rental is in the building as is the outdoor hot tub, heated outdoor pool and the spa for massages.
Buffet breakfast daily and three course sit down dinner plus dessert is included in the price of lodging .
Ski in and ski out with ski locker
Rope tow at the base takes you to main lifts
The hotel has its own chairlift !
Hotel bar
Laundry
Library and games room
Friendly staff
Complementary snacks around 5
Extensive selection of skis for rental
Can bring your own wine for dinner, corking fee
We have stayed in Mountain View rooms and in lower level rooms . All good , as mostly one just sleeps in the rooms
Remember to book your dinner time before you come for the first night or 2.
Book your massage ahead too.
ALTA is a great mountain , ski only , and the Rustler makes it even better.
Can cross over to Snowbird at the top and ski there too.
Do yourself a favor and stay at the Rustler. It takes all the annoyance factor out of the ski trip so you can enjoy the skiing without the fuss factor.

My family and I (including two kids ages 10 and 12) just returned from the Rustler and can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed it. From the friendly staff checking us in, taking care of our bags, and serving staff in the restaurant to the super clean and cozy feel, it just felt like all details were covered. The food is top notch (we couldn’t get enough of the breads at breakfast!) During our 5 days we didn’t happen to see any other kids at the Rustler but I never felt out of place or concerned that my kids didn’t belong. The staff always asked them all about the runs they skied and were super engaging with them. We loved the ability to be right on the hill and take our own lift back up every afternoon. The jacuzzi was perfect post skiing! We stayed in a Wasatch room” on the 4th floor and for us it was perfect in proximity to the restaurant, pool, and same level as the ski lockers and ski exit. It had a king bed, pull out queen, and a cot. Finally, we are so appreciative of the covid safety put into place here. Vaccination requirements and masking during this latest surge not only made us feel safe but kept us healthy our whole trip. We are a family who loves adventure and exploring new places but we are afraid the Rustler may have spoiled us now for future ski trips should we go somewhere else!

Our family of four (including 2 teenage boys) has stayed at the Rustler many times and each visit has been wonderful. The ski-in/ski-out location with amazing skiing, the warm and very capable staff, the delicious meals, the high % of returning guests and relaxing ambience all create an unbeatable winter vacation every time. During Covid, we appreciated the hotel's requirement of vaccine cards and found that most guests and all staff were wearing masks during the Omicron surge at Christmas. We so look forward to our annual stay at the Rustler and really appreciate the effort that the Rustler management team and staff make to create such a special experience.

My wife and I recently spent 5 nights at the Rustler for a skiing vacation. We cannot say enough great things about our experience. The room was spacious, comfortable, homey and clean. The bathroom was large, very clean and had great water pressure. Even the soaps/shampoos/lotions were memorable. The staff was extraordinarily friendly and courteous. Everyone went out of their way to make sure we had a positive experience. Even more kudos to the dining room! The food was fantastic, especially the 4 course dinner. The homemade soups and breads were extra memorable. An extra shout out to Vicky, one of the dining room managers. Every time she was working she came by our table to chat, make sure we were satisfied, and just assure we were having the best meal possible. Also, on the first day I had to go over to the Alta ticket office to pick up our lift tickets. It was snowing heavily and the shuttle driver was kind enough to take me there, wait until I completed my business, and bring me right back. The staff were VERY conscientious about COVID protection policies. The hotel is right on the ski slopes of Alta for an easy ski in/ski out experience. Also, the lodge had a Powder House Ski Shop on the premises. This was the 3rd season my wife had been looking for new skies. Up to this trip she hadn't been able to find a pair she liked enough to purchase and had become frustrated and confused by all the choices and technical talk of the sales people. The staff here was incredibly helpful and able to talk with us in easy to understand terms. A couple of days and she found skies she really liked. They even gave her the option of buying the demo pair at a big discount if she so chose.
We could not of been happier with our stay. We will be going back to The Rustler Lodge and looking forward to our return trip. Don't miss out!

The Rustler resort is worth every penny. While there might be some sticker shock at the price, it is worth every penny. From the food to the incredible staff, I don't think I could ask for anything more.
The staff are friendly and responsive. Anything we needed, we had. They remembered our names (all 5 of us), dealt with my crazy kids asking for everything under the sun (can you open up the craft room for me at 9 PM...Yes!)
They even had staff always on hand willing to drive us down to snowbird.
We had 2 lockers for our room that held all of our ski gear.
And - let's not forget about the food. Anything you could want, it's there for you. Incredible food.
I just love the Rustler. We went last year for the first time and came back this year. We are already booking for next year and met another family (that we saw last year) that will also be back again next year at the same time. In fact, this family loved it so much that they went 6 times this year (from out of state).

I really don’t want want everyone to know about this gem.
We ski all the time, book condos, condo hotels etc. This the best place we have ever stayed. No cooking! No work!
No going to the grocery store. No shuttle to get ski rental .
Breakfast and dinner are included . Food is great . Everyone us helpful. Ski rental in the building. Don’t need a car. Great spa, outdoor hot tub and pool. Ski lockers right at the exit . One skis down a little hill to a rope tow that takes you to the main lift. After you are done skiing you take the rope tow back to the hotel and take the hotel’s chair lift up the hotel.
Can bring your own wine, minimal corking fee at dinner.
Coffee all day, and snacks.
You book your dinner time so there’s no wait.
Breakfast is a luxurious buffet including made to order Omelettes.
We met people who have come back here for 20 years.
Please stay away, as I want it for myself.
Ps very much an adult crowd .

This is my fourth year staying at this lodge during ski season. The staff, from the general manager to the staff that cleans the room, are THE BEST I've ever encountered and they are all so welcoming and go out of their way to make you feel like you are part of their family and not just another customer. The food is delicious and the amenities such as the jacuzzis and heated pool are so very relaxing. I also met many guests who have been returning to the Rustler for decades. I have a lot of catching up to do ..

Sorry you have sent your message to Alta's Rustler Lodge in Alta, Utah.
Let me know if you are also interested in joining us.
Alta is definitely a skiers mountain. It is actually a skiers only mountain. But we are connected to Snowbird which does allow snowboarding and skiing. You can cross-country ski in Alta and snowshoe if interested. The closest place for tubing would be up by Park City, Utah. We would love to welcome you to Alta and the Rustler Lodge! If you are looking for a variety of things to do such as listed above, shopping, snowmobiling etc. Park City might be the location for you! If you would like to discuss more please reach out, we would love to talk with you more on the phone 801-742-4200. Thank you!
