It was an amazing experience for our family of 4. We booked this through the recommendation of JTB travel agency in Tokyo. The criteria for us was Roten buro (outdoor onsen bath) and Traditional Japanese style inn not a hotel. "Ryokan" The building and grounds were beautiful and clean. The tatami mat hall ways wrapped around the serene garden. There... More

This hotel is so luxurious and relaxing. The tub on the balcony was great to sit in at night and I really enjoyed the private outdoor hot springs. The dinner and breakfast were both phenomenal and all the staff were very professional. The one downside, our futon was so uncomfortable I barely slept!

We booked this ryokan as part of our honeymoon to Japan, and we really wanted something unique and distinctively Japan. Tokinoniwa delivered on all fronts! We arrived at the ryokan and were immediately greeted by friendly staff who took our shoes and led us inside to checkin. Our room was on the 4th floor with a private onsen on the... More

We love the environment and the onsen. So quiet and you may enjoy the peace and dedicated arrangement. There is no doubt that the onsen is great! There are 2 sources of onsen, with a variety of bath facilities. I love the outdoor ones and the private bath area! No reservation for the private onsen so you may get in... More

Although it is located at a quiet and a bit far, 5-10 mins by bus, area of Kusatsu, the free shuttle provided by the Ryokan is always on-time, all you have to do is to get a schedule that you will be worry-free. The best part is the onsen. There are private in-room onsen bath and three private outdoor onsens... More

At first, when we arrived at the hotel, we got off shoes and left them. We walk around in the Onsen Ryokan without shoes on, no slippers. When it came to the check-in time, a room clerk led us to the room. Before arriving at the room, we chose a Yukata and a pillow at the entrance of the lodging... More

Pros: Been to some onsen hotels in Japan and this one is at top in terms of facilities. More than 20 bath on a daily rotation and one in our room. Fully covered by tatami. Nice courtyard. Nice view from room. Regular and on time buses to downtown Dinner is of very good quality and the snacks and noodle provided... More

The was our first time in Kusatsu, but had visited many onsens in Japan, Tokinoniwa really impressed us with hot spring water and various & different pools. The room was nice and food was fair, given the price (usually more dedicate food expected). The service was warm.
