We stayed for a week in Terraco do Ceu. The welcome from the reception was great, in fact throughout our stay the staff on the front desk were extremely helpful and friendly. We were invited to the bar for a welcome drink which actually was put on our bill but no big deal. The casa was beautiful and we just loved staying there. Breakfasts were disappointing, Sometimes there was orange juice and sometimes not, fruit was often either over ripe or under ripe and often covered with fruit flies. Eggs were sometimes soft and sometimes hard. By contrast the restaurant on the Quadrillo we thought was outstanding although the prices on the wine list seemed over the top, nothing under R190. The restaurant seemed to do poor business compared to all other restaurants on the Quadrillo and we figured this must be because of price. We did not use the spa or any treatments during our stay, simply because of the colossal cost. We like yoga but R330 each for a session that's over $150 for the two of us!! All activities were crazy prices, 90 minutes mountain biking $240 for two, after sun skin repair with coconut oil $190 for two, massages around $120 each. We found this very disappointing, suffice to say it seemed as though nobody was using any of these facilities and other guests we spoke to had the same complaint. To be fair we had a great week it is just sad that they seemed to have got carried away with the pricing.

I almost don’t want to write this review in fear of this hotel becoming anymore popular. It’s arguably my favorite hotel I’ve ever been to.

Situated in the main quadrado of Trancoso, 13 small casas are tucked behind the front restaurant on the square. Each house is unique and so beautiful. More unique than the houses are the grounds itself and the service.

Upon arrival, our host Jamie was so kind and gave us a tour of the place and complimentary welcome drinks. He showed us to our house and would stop to say hi anytime he passed us (even off work hours).

Our own little house had a large, cozy bed, a kitchen, an outdoor seating area, a garden, and a beautiful bathroom that was half outdoors and half indoors. The bathroom had a very large soaking tub and the best shower.

On the grounds they had a wonderful common area where a delightful breakfast was served, and where the pool was. They also had a spa, gym, cooking classes, etc. A ~15 minute walk (or hotel provided drive) away you could find the beach with their bar and lovely cabanas. I personally loved their food at the bar (shrimp skewers were my favorite).

The best part of the hotel was how integrated it was with its surroundings. It was very peaceful to be surrounded by such beautiful greenery and nature. All in all, it was a magnificent stay and I wish I could’ve stayed many, many more days.

We loved Uxua, a beautifully designed hotel with impeccable service. We stayed in the treehouse which was totally unique. It’s a very laid back place and not doing much is encouraged.

The gardens are beautiful and the location straight out on the Quadrado is great, although the walk to the beach is about 7minutes. The beach club is nice, but all beaches in the area are public so you get a lot of Hawkers approaching you.

The full moon party was a highlight. Food is great at the hotel, but there are other options on the Quadrado if you’d like to mix it up.

We will definitely be back when we are next in Brazil!

This is a well located hotel, with very good structure at the beach and very good beach bar. However, it needs improvement in many details to reach the category that it claims to be. It is the details that generate a gain in category of lodging. The houses are spacious and well located, but they should clean the mosquito netting more frequently because it had stains and a smell of dust. Besides, when arriving, we were offer a filthy, rusty luggage trolley. We refused and they offered to carry our bags by hand. This was a horrible first impression and I cannot understand because I have stayed in many rustic hotels and I have never seen that kind of trolley for luggage. The ammenities were not very good. Some of the staff were incredible but others need more training. Breakfast was good.
In short, I believe this is a good option for Trancoso but do not expect 5 star service.

We stayed at Uxua for our 3N/4D Trancoso getaway, and absolutely loved the experience with the hotel.

A shout out to Denis and Pedro at the concierge, Sheila at the beach club, and everyone else in the team. The team represents the best of Brazilian hospitality. Everyone was warm, friendly, helpful, and attentive. They knew and greeted us by our names.

The hotel itself is truly special. The hotel design respects and integrates nature and local culture seamlessly while provides great comfort and privacy. The hotel is located in the heart of the town, so we were close to major landmarks, restaurants, shops, and the beach.

The breakfast was so abundant and delicious!

Make sure to swim in the pool built of healing stones from Chapada Diamantina national park in Southern Bahia.

Family spent a week at Uxua in December 2021. I am brazilian living abroad and every year I take the kids to places I consider the gem of my native country. Trancoso has always been special in my memory, from the times I visited as a youngster still living in Brazil. 25 years later, Trancoso did not disappoint: it is still the same "island" of authentic "brasilidade". And Uxua was amazing. Let me try to summarize it in one sentence: the most charming place we have ever stayed in Brazil. (The competition is tough: places like Anavilhanas Jungle Lodge, Camurim Grande, etc.) Staying in the "quadrado", in your own house, in a nice pousada, and still having all the privacy you need was fantastic. The crew at Uxua is amazing. Some say the price is high, but it is totally justified. If you want to enjoy brazilian charm, authenticity, and comfort, there is not better place than Uxua. Kudos to Wilbert Das and his crew.

wonderful discovery! Although there was confusion with the pick-up they more than made up for it. The staff were very friendly and attention to detail in all manner was very good. Beautifully decorated. Food was lovely. Beach area very good too. Nothing was a problem. I fully recommend and would return without doubt. Distance to beach is totally walkable

This has been the disappointment of the trip to Brazil.
The houses are nice and big but this is it. Once in your room you cannot let the windows open as they ae always people passing by. The village is very noisy, forget about good sleep.
At the bar be carefull they charge you 10$ for the nuts with the drinks!
The restaurant is very bad, we have been sick with the food, it is overpriced.
The service is very offhand, they talk to you like friends but they charge you like fools!
The owner is always around very distant, you could not tell that he was a fashion icon dressed up in cheap tank top.

Response from Alfredo S, General Manager at UXUA Casa Hotel & Spa
Responded Sep 18, 2011
Dear Genius44 and MichelG, I’m happy to respond in my role as GM of UXUA Due to similarities of your two recent posts and profiles I am guessing there is a connection between you, so I address this to both Some aspects of your comments are pretty unusual, and for that reason it would not seem appropriate for me to try to address them here Of course if you stayed with us as guests I remain at your service in all matters. Our clients are precious to us and genuine guest feedback is taken very seriously, so please contact me directly at alfredo@uxua.com - and leave a phone number if you’d prefer I call instead of writing back On behalf of all our staff I hope to hear from both of you personally, and I do hope to be able to change your mind about our hotel Sincerely, Alfredo Stefani

We spent 6 fantastic days at Uxua. They just flew by.
The hotel is perfectly located, just next to the Quadrato and a short stroll from the beach.
The staff are all extremely friendly, from Carlos the concierge, to Paula who serves the lovely breakfast and Jonny, who enjoyed speaking to us in English and French.
The food at Uxua is fantastic, as good as anything you can find in Paris or New York in our opinion. We tried eating out a couple of times but kept concluding that the best cuisine was in the hotel. Even the Uxua beach café serves great food.
The rooms are all unique and furnished in an eco style with a lot of recycled materials. They are luxurious enough, and beautifully furnished, but could do with a couple more mod cons such as hairdryer.
The common areas of the hotel are really wonderful; a nice bar, restaurant and pool area surrounded by lush vegetation. Being close to the action of the Quadrato, means that there is occasionally some noise from neighbouring houses or bars, but for us, it just added to the experience.
Other activities we really enjoyed, along with relaxing on the really amazing beach were golf at Terravista (stunning views), bike riding on the beach (suggest Uxua invest in a bicycle pump though) and horse riding on the beach.
We found the September climate to be just perfect. Warm days but with a pleasant breeze on the beach, and not uncomfortably hot nights.
Like many things in Brazil these days, the Uxua comes at a price, but it is certainly worth the experience. We will definitely be back.

I’ve traveled in Brazil about ten times for business. In July I finally extended a business trip a week to vacation a bit. I heard several times of Trancoso described as resembling Saint Tropez of the 1950‘s, with a bohemian-chic vibe and I knew Bahia is warm year-round with warm ocean temps, so this was my choice

On all accounts I can say the destination beat my expectations
A travel agent planned the itinerary, putting me in the town center instead of on the beach. This was a great choice as the ‘Quadrado Historico’ is on a hill overlooking the sea and is totally the heart of the village. Its just a giant green, grassy square, with horses grazing and children playing, and a small white church on one end, then surrounded by colorful little houses. Its so atmospheric it really distinguishes Trancoso from anyplace else I know

Uxua Casa Hotel sits right on the Quadrado, and its pretty unique because it blends right into the old town. The hotel is made up of antique fisherman houses restored and decorated with a wonderful mix of antiques and art, just incredible detail, very charming and organic with lots of wood and clay and stone. I’m rarely inspired by hotel design, but this impacted me a lot. It all felt very personal, the opposite of the vibe in most luxury resorts. My casa was called Pedrinho, a one-bedroom home which was huge, with wooden floors, giant sofas, and views of the Quadrado from every angle. I loved it

I give the hotel also high high marks for the staff. They were local people, extremely well-trained, but what stands out is just the friendliness of Bahians, which makes them great natural hosts. Perfect balance between being attentive but also warm, smiling. Made me feel very at home

For dining outside the hotel, I will say Trancoso is one of the more expensive places in Brasil, and I’ve been all over the country. But the variety and sophistication of the cuisine surprised me for such a small town. Also the ambience in the restaurants was pure charm, whether dining under the stars sitting on the Quadrado or in a cozy rustic corner of town. Standouts for me were Capim Santo with traditional Bahian food and the pizzeria Maritaca; a bit of a cool socialite vibe, airy, old-colonial decor, and great international food

In the end I did eat most at the hotel which just cannot be beat in terms of quality. The restaurant at Uxua’s beach lounge is open to the public, but in the hotel its exclusive to guests and its almost like having a private chef. Bernardo and the team there proposed me Bahian dishes, taught me the local fish, explained how things were prepared, let me watch the cooking and even go in the kitchen. I’m in awe of how smooth they pull this off

Obviously I love the hotel, now maybe my favorite. For the town I can’t imagine anyone not liking it unless someone were looking for a real party atmosphere, which it definitely is not in July. I was told however that during Christmas / New Years the place transforms with the arrival of Brasilian high-society and there are parties every night. But for me July and the Brasilian winter I think is a perfect time to go. Great weather and total tranquility

UXUA does welcome families. We kindly inform we were not planned out for children; therefore, there are no recreational areas. For children up to 5 years old we recommend a baby-sitter.
