The hotel is very well located around the beach block (not beach front) of the Meireles Beach, which is the best city beach in Fortaleza. In front of that block every night there's an outstanding artisan fair on the boardwalk, and there are many options of restaurants, bars and street bars in the boardwalk for you to choose from. The rooms are very clean, reception and cleaning personnel are friendly, but english is spoken only at the reception. We observed that the hotel follows all CoVid19 cleaning recommendations, which made us very reassured. At the top floor there is a small swimming pool with bar service and some lounge chairs, but the beach is way better. The restaurant has an excellent hot breakfast with eggs, local tasty tapioca, fruits and juices, breads and variety of cheeses and cold cuts - we strongly recommend that you include that on your daily rate when you book. Lunch and dinner are also good and "by the pound" so you pay for kilos of the variety of salads, and hot meals including grilled meat cuts, shrimp, fishes and etc. The restaurant waiters and attendants are very courteous and friendly. The rooms are spacious and for families there is an option of a two bedroom apartment where you can even request kitchen utensils so you can cook your own meal. Room service and food are good - same price of a local McDonalds around the corner. Manager was very friendly and the best room is the ones in front of main avenue (entrance side). We will be back next time we return to Fortaleza for sure.

The hotel is very well located on Av. Abolição at Meireles area. It is not on Av. Beira Mar but it is a block from the beach, or the flea market that happens everyday from 6 to 9 pm, a handy craft market with a lot of souvenirs to buy, and a place to see.
The service is very good, the staff always helpful. The breakfast is excellent with a great variety of fruits. There is a omelet island that you can also have a tapioca pancake. Breads, cheeses, ham and other good things. The room is nice, nothing fancy, but very practical. A kitchen and a small living room. The living room sofa, that can be converted into a bad, is not so comfortable, but we stay most of the time enjoying the city.

Nothing fancy. We had the top floor apartment which enjoyed. Breakfast ok.
I would stay in one of the bigger apartments again. But it is not much of a hotel.

I know this property as I had stayed there previously and it is to be remembered for the excellent meals available for breakfast, lunch and dinner! Buffet options featuring an outstanding variety of meat, fish, chicken, vegetables and so many combinations! Typical Brazilian meals such as the feijoao are deliciously prepared here! Waiters Andre and Wilson are among the best as they are so kind, humorous, smiling, and serviceable in the restaurant and they are the ones that encourage to come back all years!
Other advantages of this Brasil Tropical hotel are very well-known including the location close to the beach, ample rooms with views to the amazing Meirelles skyscrapers and sorrounding area, and a swimming pool located in the "cobertura" (roof) allowing to have sun baths and also the service of drinks.
But what was a complete unpleasant surprise was the fact that at check in Mr Alysson charged me a fee of 215.47 Reais that is fully improper and incorrect as my prepaid booking was completely prepaid in advance (redundancy in my statement is on purpose) and the voucher very clearly stated that my reservation was fully prepaid. Brasil Tropical hotel is the only one doing this in Fortaleza and perhaps the only one in the whole Brazil!
I was astonished to see how rude and intransigent Mr. Alysson was as he even did not allow me to get in touch with my travel agency. At a later stage, I spoke with the hotel manager Pedro Ruau and he explained me that the fee was because my travel agency used Decolar as intermediary, which is used to charge the 10% to the guest. But the one who loses was me and no other than me! For this reason and only for it, I am not composing a review featuring this establishement as excellent (because for all the other reasons it is a very good beach hotel).

First of all, thank you for taking the time to share your opinion with us! Your comments are very important to us! We inform you that the comments were forwarded to the responsible sectors, so that we can improve the issues mentioned. In relation to the 10%, this is a service fee and this information appears on the reservation sales sites before the purchase is made and also on the customer's voucher. Once again, thank you for choosing the Hotel Brasil Tropical We will always be at your disposal and hope to be able to serve you again soon. Sincerely, Management of the Hotel Brasil Tropical

My partner and I travelled to Fortaleza on recommendation from a friend and we were both wholly disappointed with the trip. Meireles beach was far from the fantastic North Brazil beaches we were expecting and we had to take a taxi to go to another beach "Praia Furtura" on which we were advised from a local bar tender.
The hotel was basic and the hotel staff were unhelpful.
Fortaleza itself is very expensive for tourists yet the local people are so poor we literally had people begging us for food at our dinner table.

This was our second trip to Brasil (the first was, of course, to Rio de Janeiro). I think Fortaleza may not be on a lot of people's radar but it should be. Magnificent beaches and fantastic weather (we were here the last 2 weeks in August, your experience may differ). It is pretty warm but a constant breeze (at times typhoon-like) keeps one pretty cool.
As others have posted, the hotel is a little dated but is overall pretty clean and is on the backside of a block that fronts the beach (Praia de Meireles), about a five minute walk to the beach and there are plenty of barracas to choose from with food drinks, umbrellas, chairs and chaise lounges. The barraca folks are not very pushy and are very relaxed about service, they just let you alone to do your thing (unlike in Mexico no one shoos away the beach vendors or is overly attentive, like they're trying to sell me a suit at Nordstrom). There are beach towels at the front desk so be sure to ask for one before you head out. Some sites you may find will say that swimming at Meireles is unsafe because of pollution, but that was not the case for us, lots of locals and vacationers were in the water at Meireles and the surf is pretty gentle. The food at any of the barracas is sensational, get ready to eat lots and lots of shrimp (camarões). Best of all, if you make a mess, the ocean is right there to rinse yourself off!
The hotel only has the typical Brasilian outlets so you either need to bring an adapter or you can buy one (BR$10) at the nearby cyber café (about 2 blocks east on the same side of Av. Abolição as the hotel). There is also a grocery store about 3 blocks east (Pão de Açúcar).
You will want to consider renting a car if you can because some of the most beautiful beaches are a drive away (Combuco, Morro Branco, Canoa Quebrada to name a few - we don't like being tied to a bus tour schedule). It is also relatively easy to get to the hotel from the airport, however there are a lot of one-way streets and "no left turn" spots so plan ahead (we used Google maps). Going N on BR-116 gets you too far west and then you have to go E on Beira Mar which can be really heavy traffic. I suggest going N on BR-116 to about Santos Dumont then head E and turn N onto Virgilio Távora, W on Dom Luis then N again on Moreira (very exciting roundabout at Dom Luis and Moreira, be careful) to Abolição then turn left. The hotel is directly across from an Ipiranga and katty-corner from a Shell station so be in the second to the right lane until the instant before you have to be in the far right lane to pull into the hotel's driveway (big dip in the roadside and very steep driveway so go SLOW). Anyone who has driven or seen anyone drive in Brazil will understand the lane strategy (red lights and lane lines are merely suggestions). YOU CANNOT GET LOST - keep in mind where the water is and when in doubt, drive toward the ocean, if you realize you've been driving for a long time and still don't see water - turn around! Maps of the main part of town can be purchased at the Ipiranga.
If you drive, don't rely on your credit card's insurance coverage. If you don't get the Brasilian insurance, they mark anywhere from BR$7,000 to BR$9,000 against your card, we found it to be way less of a hassle to simply buy their insurance (about BR$15/day). BEWARE OF MOTORCYCLISTS!!! This cannot be stressed enough. Motorcycles will ride up at red lights on either side of your car, helmets are optional and many people ride wearing shorts and Havianas (flip-flops). Always be HYPER-vigilant for motorcycles. We saw about three different wrecks involving motorcycles during our first week here. Regardless of who may be "at fault", no one should have to find out how badly a no-helmet, shorts and flip-flops wearing rider could be hurt - just focus on keeping everybody safe on the road.
Also, try to have some reais with you when you arrive, it is always useful to have at least some local currency whenever and wherever you travel. Not many US banks carry Brasilian currency on a regular basis so you may need to plan that ahead with them. Learn a little Portuguese too, a little Portuguese and a little bit of English from the other guy really helped us out during our time in Brasil.
The hotel is very nice (we only use it to sleep and shower so we don't need the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel) and a fantastic location, fairly easy to get to and lots of useful amenities nearby.Decent breakfast and dinner, they also have parking if you rent a car (the only way out is to go west on Abolição so you have to take three right turns around the block to go left). One other thing that seemed odd was that we needed to slide our key card into a slot by the door in order to turn on the electricity so be ready for that (maybe that is standard but we had not experienced it before). Good hotel, great town, get to Fortaleza before the tourists turn it into another Cabo San Lucas!

To begin with, the hotel doesnt even have the basic emergency kit every hotel is required to have in Brazil. We needed help, my father-in-law was hurt after being robbed and the hotel manager simply said that he didnt have a kit and didnt offer any sort of help. Nothing. Actually, he couldnt care less about our situation.
As for the hotel, it's poor quality, poor furniture, poor service overall. The housekeeper likes banging the door insistently early in the morning and doesnt care to announce herself after you jump out of bed and ask who it is.
Simply put - if you have another choice of place to stay, go for it

The room was great, very efficient air-conditioning units, great refrigerator, 2 full bathrooms, and excellent partial ocean view.

I had a few problems with reception staff who tried to charge my credit card in advance even though the reservation stated that the credit card would be charged in case of no-show (but I checked in around 9:30pm).

The hotel restaurant was a huge disappointment. They had a dinner buffet special running all week days known as "Festival do Camarao", or "Shrimp Festival". What an expensive joke! Next time I will bring loupes with me to be able to find the shrimp. Out of over 12 dishes only one had medium-sized shrimp, all the other were made with a kind of minuscule tasteless shrimp, probably purchased frozen in bulk. All servers were great and helpful, but the restaurant cashier was not a very happy person.....

Although it is well located, walking distance to the beach, beira mar nd many places, the room was not as I expected. I was told it has a partial kitchen in the room, so I could make breakfast. To my surprise there was nothing when I arrived. I asked for a coffee maker and a microwave, but the told me they only have a heater and pans. I explained them I just wanted something to make coffee, they told me I could have breakfast at the hotel with a cost of 33 Reales, which was not my idea. I could never reach the supervisor neither on the phone nor personally. After 2 days RCI contacted then, the night before my ckeck out I found a coffee maker in the room. By that time I had spent 260 reales having breakfast at a nearby bar with my husband.(which I really like to have a compensation)
On the other hand, the room was always clean, the shower was very powerfull, and the bed confortable, but only one night table at the room, I had my suitcase in replace by my side.
Due to all these, It is a pity, but I won't come back and I don't recommend it.
