The Marina Park Hotel is clean and pleasant but hardly ranks as five stars. It has a late 1960's early 70's feel to it. Staff are friendly and the breakfasts were good. Beautiful public places, pool and tennis courts - they are 5 stars - but not the rooms. The rooms are generally small and standard but clean. Nothing special. Generally a bit "shopworn". My room, on the 4th floor, had a great view of the harbour but the ceiling leaked during one torrential downpour. There were also leaks in the hallway.

The area around the hotel is not particularly safe and it is a bit far from the downtown core and the beaches.

Staff were very friendly and helpful.

This hotel is a little dated, maybe it was a 5star on the past. It's a nice hotel overall, the pool area is great! If you're going to a concert in marina Park, definitely worth staying there, since it's beside the hotel and you can go from inside the hotel. But if you're a regular tourist, I don't recommend because of the location. Far from downtown, and with unsafe and ugly surroundings. I felt so insecure at night driving to the hotel.

My husband and I stayed here for a week and we didn't want to leave because of the pool area. The waiters serve you in your day beds, the outdoor bar area is great and the staff here were lovely. The staff at the reception area were also great and spoke fantastic english. The main foyer is a lot more modern than the rooms were. Our room was a bit outdated and the bed sloped down towards the head of the bed which made is a little uncomfortable, but we didn't spend too much time in here so we weren't that fussed. The gym was very well equipped and the breakfast was great. The restaurant area did get very busy so we found it better to head down as early as possible. We decided to walk into town one day, not the best idea as it took longer than we thought and was incredibly hot, so would recommend to future guests to take taxi's.

Do *not* stay at this hotel. It is located in an isolated area right in front of a favela (slum). The first day we stayed at this hotel we saw a bunch of police and TV crews about 100 meters down the road from the hotel, out taxi driver told us someone was assaulted there. We were constantly warned by the hotel staff not to go out on our own, to even take a taxi if we wanted to visit the mercado central or the cathedral (both of which are a short walk away). Naturally, the taxi drivers don't *want* to take anyone a short distance, so they charge an fixed price (which is illegal) way above the meter rate. Fantastic!

The rooms in the hotel are all on the second floor and above. On the first floor is where you find the restaurants and conference rooms. One night the conference room below our room (we were on the second floor) was booked for a wedding. The music was so loud we had to (after a few hours of arguing with the manager) be moved to a room in a higher floor. Geesh!

The A/C in our room did not have a thermostat, and was incredibly powerful. So, during the night someone had to turn the AC on or off, depending on whether we were frozen solid or sweating hot. Terrific!

The cleaning staff left the windows open every day (even though we asked them not to), so when we returned from our activities, the room was full of mosquitos. We had to sleep covered in insect repellent.

Do not let this review keep you away from Fortaleza, a fantastic city where we had a lot of fun, especially on the out-of-town beach trips. Stay somewhere on "Beira-mar" avenue, it is the center of activity of the city at night, and is very close to the nice Praia do Futuro.

Marina Park Hotel is without a doubt the worst hotel I have ever stayed at! It is really horrible!!! The staff is rude beyond comprehension and the food is so bad it is disgusting. The rooms are extremely worn and the AC very noisy, which does not matter that much since there is piercing music playing right outside all night. The beds are wobbly (!) and the sheets so worn thin that the mattress shows through. There is just something wrong with this place, something very wrong indeed! It was the most Kafka-like experience I have ever had. The super long and bleak corridors are reminiscent of old Soviet institutions. I kept thinking that somebody would jump out and tell me that I was on Candid Camera and we would have a good laugh about all the horrendousness of this place, but no such luck. The only positive thing I have to say about Marina Park Hotel is that it provided me with a lot of horror stories to entertain my friends with

I don't know who gave them 5 stars but they certainly don't deserve them. In my opinion 3 stars is being generous. I suspect previous guests who gave it a positive review have been paid to do so or have no idea of what a 5 star hotel should be like. A truly miserable experience.
A/C and other equipment in room look like they're from the 70's.
Internet use is charged at rip-off rates.

I was at this hotel for more then a week. The general room condition is poor. It is clear that the owners do not invest in the facility and do not know how to manage an hotel.
I was waken up for three days in a raw by work in progress in the room next to mine. I had to complain with the director to stop the noise and still on the third day the loud noise continued.
I had to change room to have the internet working and still it was not working.
I had to call the reception desk several times for simple things and the staff was not coming.

I hate giving negative reviews ... But this is definitely a hotel I would not ever stay at again . When I think 5 stars ( what the hotel claims to be ) I think Ritz -Carlton , Four Seasons , Mandarin oriental . This is like a run down Motel 6 compared to those properties .
The room upon first glance looked nice , but the bathroom was downright disgusting . I am a stickler for cleanliness and finding short , curly hairs on the floor of the bathroom was BEYOND disgusting . I asked my colleague if he had any issues with that and he didn't even get that far ... His A/C was broken and it was 95 degrees in his room .
The 2nd problem was noise . I was here on business and needs sleep . There is a club or outdoor bar next door that has music pumping until way past 2 am . I felt like there was a sub woofer under my bed . I also had problems with teenage kids running up and down the halls after dark because there is ABSOLUTELY nothing for kids to do here after the sun goes down .
The breakfast Buffett was average at best .
Nothing at all like the standard I am used to in America or Europe .
The hotel is also a bit out of the way and right across from a favella ... So walking anywhere is not an option .
I would also like to bring up that they are still charging for Internet ... And it's not cheap .
In my opinion ... Don't bother staying here . There are much better options !!

This hotel has reasonable leisure facilities and indeed is close to a marina in Iracema beach, hence its name.j

Room however (at least the one assigned to me) is light-years far from being a 5-star one as claimed.

Furniture is old-fashioned and quite dated, and the bathroom surely needs small repairs. And the safe deposit box is the oddest I've seen: basically a loose box of metal that could be easily carried out.

Notes:

1) hotel staff strongly recommended not to walk in surrounding areas.

2) rooms facing seaside must be quieter.

3) hotel should invest more in good translation services. English translation for safety tips is a joke, if not tragic.

I wonder how come this hotel was chosen by FIFA to host Brazil, Uruguay and Germany.

This hotel is located in an isolated part of the city(despite to be so close to the downtown) and don´t go by walking near the hotel,or you can be stolen or assaulted.Fortunately, the hotel staff warned us before. You depend of taxi cab or car for your movement. The room has not safety deposit box, despite to be at the hotel advertisement in the web,and It was not provided, not even after two requesting to the hotel reception,a full missing of respect to the guest. The room lightning is very poor too, missing a luminary and buttons to turn on/off the lights at one side of the bed (I must say "weak lights",including that one of the bathroom and becoming almost impossible you read anything at the night). When I woke up in the middle of the night,I was obligged to walk in the full darkness! The room reserved to our friend couple, that was travelling together with us,does not ready at the time of check in (this is incredible, the hotel recepcionist asked them for waiting about one hour to receive the room, situation solved when my friend asked to talk with the hotel manager). The room furniture was incomplete.I concluded that this hotel is in the amateur hands.A friendly advise to another travellers: miss this hotel .
