After a long journey to Angra do Reis we had to wait 25min at checkin. Once we received the “Standard Apartment with Double Bed” for R$ 783 we were shocked. The room was smelly, dark, very basic and badly worn. On top, on the flyer they handed out it was stated “breakfast only in room” - which later exposed not to be correct. The reaction at front desk was “you should talk to us” - in my opinion you should change the flyer!
I give them 3 stars, as we could cancel the booking free of charge and they refunded us the room price. We took another hotel and had a great stay...

Basic beach resort hotel in a great location. Large rooms with separate bedroom, tiled floors, family oriented, large infinity pool with separate large hot tub. Aesthetics dated.
Breakfast is solid and many selections m. Rooms clean, excellent air conditioning inside—noisy AC units outside room tho. After a long drive from Rio, a good stopping place. Staff spoke some English.

Staff was amazing. Clean but outdated hotel. No supplies in kitchen other than drinks and 2 glasses. Towels were old and rough. Pool was beautiful. Breakfast was fresh and very complete. Food was good but menu included in package did not change, which made it impossible to eat there everyday.

We were a underwhelmed with our stay at the Mercure hotel. Overall the hotel is tired and in need of some TLC (I’m sure it said somewhere it’s meant to be 4 star?!). The first room we were given wasn’t clean, had a terrible smell in the bathroom and the ac unit was placed so that it was blasting the bottom of the bed with cold air rather than the rest of the room. Fortunately the very kind staff moved us to another room which was an improvement. The pool and bar area were great, and the staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay, however overall we felt the Mercure fell short of our expectations and price we paid.

Incredible location! Just in the bay with a beautiful “infinite” pool that make you feel as you are at the sea. The food and drinks are excellent, special mention to Jorge at the restaurant and pool bar, very warm and friendly his service! The rooms are very spacious and I recommend at the wings close to the sea.

We've had an excellent overall experience with the hotel. The room was comfy and spacious although not exactly new, bed is comfortable and shower was also very good. The swimming pool is amazing and the bar caters well for what we needed. We were attended by Jorge in the restaurant/bar and it was an amazing experience and great service!

I have stayed several times here because frankly, it is convenient. It is close to Piratas Mall where you can eat, shop necessities, and do some people-watching. It is a beautiful facility and well maintained on the outside, but the rooms are not well cared for...musty smells, missing door locks, cracks in walls, noisy air conditioners (if they work at all). Internet is very hit and miss. Only last night my work report took a half hour to send three pages that should have sent in a half a second. The restaurant is nothing remarkable...much better and much cheaper food can be had in the restaurants atthe mall a ten minute walk way. The breakfast buffet is marginal; it's actually gotten worse than in my last few stays. Fruits are your best bet, there is nothing hot except cut up hot dogs in tomato gravy and "scrambled eggs" which are stomach-turning, sitting lukewarm in a large pot and almost floating in off-yellow water. Then there's cut-rate cold cuts and cheeses. Forget sending your laundry out, two days change of clothes will cost you about US$60 and if you don't check "express" service (and pay more for it) don't expect to see your clothes back for a couple of days.That's it. For the price point, which is around US$200 a night for a room, you tend to get the very angry resentful feeling that you are being played - that they are taking your money and not putting any of it back into the hotel to make the guests' experience that much better. They ride the coatails of the bay's natural beauty and the relatively secure location to appeal to tourists and business people that either have expense accounts or can afford the price of feeling safe. And it;s a good thing it's safe...they don't even bother to bolt the room safes to the wall...if somebody broke into your room all of your valuables are right there in one easy-to-carry, breadbox-sized package. Maybe that's the idea; I don't know. It's such a shame...the pool and the facility are stunningly beautiful. This place could be a dream if the mangement would just step up a bit and give people some value for their money.

I have travelled the world, but nothing could have prepared me for this hotel disaster! The website looked beautiful... like a "resort", however, when we arrived, it quickly became apparent that this hotel needs to be levelled and the staff fired! Where do I start? The halls are dark and depressing, the rooms are small and dirty, the elevators were broken, the pool was "out of service indefinitely", the staff was rude and cranky, they will only give you one towel, which takes hours to arrive...we checked out and left early...I would rather sleep in the car! PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE!

We spent one night at Golden Tulip as our coach from Brazil arrived too late for the ferry to Ilha Grande. The hotel is not too far away from the port and the coach station but it isn't worth the money. We paid USD 200.- for one night (high season) and our room was not only dirty but smelled of stale cigarette smoke, it was disgusting. But what's worst: they seem to be cleaning at night and we couldn't sleep until 3-4am because of the terrible noise they made. We strongly disrecommend this hotel!

Took my family for a long weekend at this hotel... What a bad idea... On my 2nd night, the hotel fuly booked ran out of water and only after a heated discussion I manage to get them to arrange for my 1-year old to have a shower. They did not have a back-up water supply system for a hotel that size! Also, as soon as the staff knew about the issue they should have requested auxiliary water supply by trucks or any other means instead of be postponing and lying to the guests saying problem would be sorted in 30 minutes. Because of the water issue, that night no one managed to take a shower and go have dinner elsewhere, so everyone tried to use the hotel restaurant and they could not attend the requests. They even ran out of bread! Total shame! Water supply was restored at midnight and stopped again 5am. When my family was up I told them we were leaving. Do not recommend and do not intend to return to this hotel ever again.
