Excellent location. The food was delicious everything super fresh! Must eat the sea food stew (caldeirada de feitos do mar). Beautiful pool. We love the people there. They are great and provide good service. Visit and couple with a boat tour!

We´ve enjoyed a lot our stay.
It´s not a hotel, is your private suite at the best place of Angra. The Porto Frade condo.
Friendly staff, great service, with the owners courtesy and eyes always.
Loved the breakfast.
A place you can relax in and enjoy the wonders of Angra dos Reis, without the unpersonalized services of a big hotel.
Very nice pool area and we even made our own grilled fish and shrimps at the grill.
They have meals but there are options around, close to the condo marina where you can rent boats and tours, what is essential because Angra are the islands that surround it.
Thanks, we will be back.

Hi,
This place has it all. Location of course, right on the water at Angra. Plus everything you could ask for in terms of ammenities. 5 Bedrooms, all with Air-Conditioning and private bathroom & balcony overlooking the water. Swimming pool, pier for the boat, TV, Internet, BBQ, bicycles, and yes, they have a boat to rent as well!. Great deck to laze about on, gymnasium, jacuzzi. On top of this, your hosts John and Ana Paula are wonderful people, entertaining and hospitable. I came away so relaxed and refreshed, and so inspired by such a perfect location combined with every ammenity and fantastic service.

I work and manage hotels myself and I under stand everyone has their own opinion. Beaware that with this company when you prepay and have security issues, uncleaned grounds, 2single beds pushed together to try and make one when you talk to the staff they are unable to help with anything. They give email address for owner but he not so interested in your issues, only this what you paid and NO REFUND or DISCOUNT. Not near any beach and you are at the merci of a boat to shuttle you across to be able to get to the beach, There are a couple other hotels right on the beach that I would seriously consider before staying here. Tv's are 20" if lucky. Will say is nice and secluded if this is what you are looking for though.... Not for a honeymoon Stay!!!!

This is the only bad review we have had so far and we are deeply sorry for your insatisfaction, however your comment represent serious and untruthful acusations witch should be punished by law witch I may plan to do so. But I'll contest every single one of them: 1" uncleaned grounds" : we've been in the market since 1999 , we work with the major online reservations websites in the world, such as expedia, hotes.com, booking.com, travellocity, despegar.com, etc, etc , we have the best bank references if required, WE ARE NOT UNCLEANED, YOUR COMMENT IS. 2: "2 single beds pushed toguether..." : we have different kinds of rooms, some with king size beds, some with 2 full size beds, the one you stayed, another one could have apointed to you if you wanted " 3: "the owner gives email" : the owner is always present, not even need for email, anybody that stays with can in fact have a proof of this, anyhow, we respond emails with max 1 to 12 hs, send us an email and you'll see. 4: "No Refund or Discount" : you wanted a refund after you stayed and not before, maybe your hotel does that, it'd be the first on earth. 5: "the beach" : the beach is 300mts away, it can be accesed by foot or using the little boat to cruise the 20 METERS channel in order to make it a little faster and it takes 15 seconds 6:"Tv" all our Tvs are Plasma< depending on the room it could be from 20 to 32 inches 7: "other hotels on the beach" : theres is ONE other hotel and it is a resort, witch costs 4 times more, check the coments on it and you'll see if it's really nice like you are saying, it will be closed in 4 months. 8: "not for a honeymoon" : at least 50% of our guests are couples , many on honeymoon, from all over he world, see their comments on the internet and written on the wall of one of our facilities, I think the problem was your honeymoon and not our hotel

We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights and had a great time. We stayed at the presidential suite (quite a pompous name :-)), the room is spacious, very comfortable, with a private deck and with a large bathroom and shower. The place is located inside a big condo, making it very safe and you can enjoy very nice walks around the place, to the nearby beach and waterfall. It is located outside of Angra dos Reis, which is good, and about 1 hour drive from Paraty, which I highly recommend for a visit. Upon arriving ask the porter for directions to the hotel. While we were there in October 2013 the hotel was being renovated. Food was delicious. As for the service, a waiter dedicated to take the orders could improve it. The owner/manager is caring and did her best to fulfil our requests. I would also recommend the boat trip. On the day we wanted to make our boat trip it was supposed to be the boat driver's free day, which I think the booking staff forgot, but he came anyway and we had a great trip. Thanks a lot for that! We also enjoyed sitting and chatting in the commom area of the hotel, very relaxing. The Angra dos Reis nuclear power plant is just 15 min away by car heading to Paraty, which is also an interesting view.

Based on such great reviews, we expected more. The place is nice, but it's more like a pousada/ guest house than a boutique hotel. It also looks more modern in pictures than in person, so the feeling we had was that its days of glory had passed.
We stayed in the VIP suite, which had a lovely deck right by the channel where yatches pass by. Breakfast was very good, but we didn't get to meet the friendly staff or owner (maybe they were busy with the renovation going on in the reception area).
The guest house is located in a fancy gated community, quite far away from anything else. The beach is nice and easy to get to, but there are only about 5 restaurants nearby, and they're not open every day. We thought the hotel's restaurant was VERY overpriced (at least 50 reais/ person for basic dishes).

Dear Guest, we apprecciate your coment, some details should be clarified so other users may be correctly informed, it's hard to reach everybody's expectations but I must say that the pictures reflect exactly what we offer and the kind of hotel we are, each suite has king sized bed, split A/C, Lcd Tv, free Wi-Fi, cable Tv, expresso machine with free coofee, decoration is designed to be cozy and that's what people really like about our place as you can see in the other coments, since it's not a cold type of enviroment, but please don't be confused, construction and installations are modern and services are as a Hotel: free parking, restaurant on site, speed-boat daily tours, private shuttle service to/from Rio de Janeiro and its airports, 24hs concierge service, 24hs reception, 24hs room service, hudge swiming-pool open all year, suites with their own private deck for Yachts and boats, pool table, etc, etc. I really don't think a guest house would offer these kind of instalations and services and about waht you said " glory has passed" , I must say we just earned the certificate for best hotel of the year (2013) , our yearly occupation is almost 90% and we're constanly improving our bussiness. You say it's not modern but on the other hand said we were renewing our reception, we actulaly just ended that process of making great improvements in some areas and 4 suites, all our areas and rooms are very modern and well designed. Our full menu and prices for all dishes are in our website under the link of "gastronomy", people can see the dishes cost much less then the one you menthioned. There are 7 restaurants nearby and not 5, on low season from monday to wednesday 3 of them are open (the other days all are open), besides ours, that's the only limitation however not so important as you menthioned to be. I must admit I'm very surprised about our staff not being friendly, that's our great positive service, I'll look into that, one of the owners is allways present to supervise the staff and take care personally of customer's needs. Hope to have you once again and offer you the service expected, best regards The Staff

Everything about this place gets five stars (the location, service, grounds, good, etc) with the exception of the actual rooms. They are outdated and need some work. Our bathroom was decent but there were plumbing issues (toilet ran all the time and the shower took at least 10 minutes to get warm). On the plus side, we only slept in the room as there was so much to do and see. The nearby beach is gorgeous, which we had mostly to ourselves during our early September visit. The boat tour is definitely worth the money (try to do the 5 hour) and be sure to do the quick hike to the nearby falls. They are within walking distance from the hotel and far exceeded our expectations. We left around 3:00 in the afternoon to the see falls and had a beautiful walk back watching the sun start to set over the mountains. There is also a nice little spring for a quick swim which is marked by the signs. We spent two days here then one in Paraty. We wished we had one more day so we could have visited Ilha Grande. The ferry times, however, were very limited so we couldn't squeeze that in. Also note: If you have children who can't swim, the pool and canal are within a few short steps out of your room so keep a close eye on the kids and bring life vests (the hotel also has some, although not the greatest for our toddler).

Dear Guest, we apprecciate your coment and sincerelly appologize for any inconvenient in the room, we must remind that you stayed in one of our rooms and not in all of them, so talking about your specific suite a simple regulation in the toilet was needed and it was done in 5 mins by our maintnance staff. Eventhough we constantly improve and update all our areas and rooms, du to your coment we paid double attention to the suite you stayed in and recently renovated it ; since that feedback from our guests have been great. Regarding the swiming-pool, as in any hotel parents should keep an eye on their small children, and we trust on that sense of responsability parents must have, 4 of our rooms are closer to the pool and that has been a positive issue and never a negative one. Boats to Ilha Grande usually depart at 8 am, 11 am, 12:30 pm, 15:30. During higher seasons they add more trips (schedule might change). At reception we offer any information requested by guests regarding tours, schedules, public and private transportation, etc; we are comited in making guests enjoy the most of their stay in our beautifull region and offer the best service possible. Best regards Eduardo

We found this boutique hotel here on tripadvisor, and it seemed like everyone was very pleased with it! The webpage also looks great, so it was an easy decision to book our Angra stay here.
We had booked the suite deluxe plus double, but upon arrival we were showed to a very tiny room in the back of the building. It was equipped with only one small window - except for the sliding glass door - making the room seem very claustrophobic. The pillows smelled very foul, and there were ants and mosquito's everywhere... According to the website, all the suites are spacious and with balcony and either pool- or canal view. This room had neither, so we asked the manager if we could please get another room. Turned out they could only give that to us the next day. The next day we went on the boat trip, which was really great, and when we got back our room was ready. This room was nice and spacious with a pool view, but still no balcony. Luckily there are chairs around the pool and at the canal, so we sat there at night instead.
The breakfast is really good, with a nice variety of fruits and juices, as well as cold meats and cheeses. They also make your choice of eggs. Only thing we could have wished for was a bit of a variety throughout the days, but certainly not a deal breaker!
We had the salmon and a pasta one night, and it was really great - big portions, and very delicious. One day we shared a filet mignon (supposed to be for two people), but there was barely enough meat for one person.
They do have a small variety of wines, but no wine menu. They put a different bottle of wine on each table (five in total), and you can chose between them. We had two all right bottles - just obviously not great that the bottles are 30º, so you have to wait for a while before you can have a glass!
The hotel is close to a very nice beach, and if you have a car it is easy to get there. Otherwise you can take a boat there quickly. We went to Angra for diving, and it is only a 40 minute drive.
All in all a nice stay after we changed the room!

Response from angraguesthouse, Owner at Angra Boutique Hotel
Responded Dec 11, 2012
Dear guest, we apprecciate your review and we can't avoid to express our surprise after reading it, for I think some issues should be clarified ARRIVAL: your reservation was made through booking.com and unfortunately a detail about the room information was wrongly edited by them, witch now has been corrected, and as you stated, you received an email from them with appologies for the inconvenient. Anyhow, we did assume responsability for it in order to make your stay satisfactory and gave you a different room the next day since the hotel was completely full at the time. THE ROOM: the room you describe as "small and no window " has a king size bed, a 42" plasma TV, A/C, and has been recently finished, it has a private balcony with chairs and table and the access glass door witch is 3meters wide gives light and great ventilation to the room. A "claustofobic" room would never have a king size bed and a 14sq meter bathroom. Many of our guests do prefer the suites in the back part of the hotel such as this one because these rooms are very intimate and each one has a spacious balcony. I understand and respect it was not of your preference and thats why we offer diferent kinds of rooms but that doesn't mean it is claustofobic , etc, etc We do not have managers, the owners themselves are at the hotel to serve and resolve all guest's needs, I was there at the time. THE RESTAURANT: Most of the dishes such as the meat come with 3 different kinds of side dishes, it's the first time we have a complain about the portions, instead people think they are actually more than abundant, however one opinion is enough for us to make necessary adjustments. THE WINE: we actually have at least 20 kinds of wines, mostly from Chile, Argentina, France and Italy, they are allways displayed inside the restaurant and the ones put on the table are for decoration purposes, I assume you didnt see the other wines and since you automaticaly picked the wine you wanted and never asked witch other kinds of wines we have we understood that was already your choice. We have a big sign at the reception suggesting guests to reserve lunch or dinner a litlle bit in advance in order to avoid waiting and in case they want a cold wine it would be ready by the time they arrive, we serve it inside a bucket of ice, however you never did reserve so a 10 min waiting was needed for your glass of wine to be cold. Since we rotate a lot the wines we offer, it is hard to have a wine menu but we'll try to implement it. The beach is 300 mts away if crossing the 20mts channel with the little boat, the cross takes about 10 seconds, and it operates 24hs a day, the other option is walking 15mins or 3 mins by car, most of the guests prefer the boat, There is a diving place 25mins away also, Customer satisfactiion is our main goal; we kindly ask all guests to fill out a feedback form before checking out, so we can improve every day based on it, and each coment is carefully readed and responded. I wish your stay was COMPLETELLY satisfactory like most of our guets and if we have the chance to have you stay with us again I assure that should happen. Sincerelly, Eduardo
