We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Pousada Lagamar. It is located ~7 min on foot from the Flexiboat dock and the Pousada staff helps you carry your luggage if you contact them about your arrival time beforehand. All the staff is quite nice and very helpful with information and organization of boat trips to different parts of Ilha Grande, especially Isabel. The rooms at the Pousada are very nice and surrounded by the sea & forest. Breakfast is buffet-style, with a wide variety of tropical fruits, local home-made cakes, etc, and one can request scrambled eggs and all that are cooked on the spot. The tables are close to feeding spots for the nearby wildlife, which provides ample opportunities to observe up close birds, squirrels, porcurpines, marmosets and coatis while having your breakfast.
we will visit the Pousada again!

I spent several days in one of the newer rooms with a view out to the ocean and laying in the hammock on the deck was perfect. Ezequiel and Luciana are truly wonderful people, just like all the other reviewers have said. Rose, as well, who was serving breakfast and taking care of things. They all were super helpful with advice about things to do, and really it was nice just chatting with them about the island, and their lives there. Thanks again for everything!

I came to Ilha Grande to get away from the craziness of Rio and really pleased I did. Great location at Lagamar and really friendly hosts. Breakfast was lovely and more than enough food to sit and enjoy the great views for a few hours. Lodge was great. I mentioned to a friend that Lagamar was more Thailand than Thailand.
Just a couple of things to note that aren’t mentioned in Lonely Planet:
1. Whilst you can get to Lagamar and back from Arbaao it’s definitely not recommended. Angra seems to be the mainland destination.
2. The local beach, which is picture perfect, only had two restaurants that I could find and I couldn’t get the rhythm of when food was being served. On reflection maybe a bit more guidance / instructions on the area when checking in would have been beneficial. It’s only a small area and I would have assumed that everyone knows everyone.

Beautiful location with great views of the jungle and the ocean, but the room had some problems, the hosts were never anywhere to be found, and the attention to detail was poor. We booked the family chalet for our large family and found one fewer beds than was shown online. So two of our young sons shared one of the beds in the loft. The bed was right next to a window, which we found wide open in the morning because it had no latch - our 5-year old could have easily fallen through it and landed on the concrete two stories down. There was also no latch on the front door - when I pointed this out, they said it was generally safe, but not having a way to lock our room was disconcerting.
The list goes on - there was nowhere to hang a towel in the bathroom and they didn't even have a TP dispenser, there was a bar to hang clothes but no hangers, soap but no shampoo. They said you could get drinks from the communal fridge and mark down what you got in the notebook - but guess what? No beer or wine (or adult beverage of any kind) and no notebook. Since there's no store or anything within walking distance, there's no way to get drinks.
The host family seemed to always be at the other place they ran down on the beach so if you needed anything or wanted to talk to someone about activity options etc, you were out of luck. When we did see them, they were very kind - including baking a birthday cake for our kiddo who had a birthday there! But it would have been nice if the breakfast had been on-site (as advertised but really at the other place on the beach) or if there had been a way to contact the owners.
Despite all this we enjoyed our stay because the location is unbeatable and Ilha Grande is amazing!

Luciana and Isabella were so kind and welcoming. I asked Luciana to arrange a cake for my daughter's birthday and she made a homemade cake with beautiful decorations. Everyone went above and beyond for us. It is a truly welcoming place. The views from the rooms are gorgeous. Rooms are basic but have everything you need. Very remote and peaceful.

The location of the hostal is sensational. Beautiful view, in the middle of the forest surrounded by small animals and birds. The couple (Rose and Jorge) that manages the place is very kind, they like to help with precious tips about the trails and where to go on the island. They are always willing to help us no matter what the demand. Breakfast was very good. Theyalso have drinks, beer and sandwiches if you choose not to go out

Beautiful place as if you’re right in the jungle which you are actually, the views are spectacular and Isabell is lovely with her daughter Sophia. They took great care of us. We can’t wait to come back again. The breakfast was also really great. Everything was fresh. They even baked fresh cakes, juices fruit and lots more.

The Lagamar establishment is incapable of providing the services they claim if the weather is bad. No wifi, no TV, most of the time cold water in the shower, water has dirt inside, no air condition (only cold air). Poor service & accommodation

The hotel is located on Praia Vermelha, which is wonderful, and really calm. It is in the jungle, surrounded by nature, and you can see monkeys, all kinds of butterflies, birds...amazing!
The service is just excellent: complete breakfast, wich bread, ham, cheese, tropical fresh fruits to eat and in juices, cereals, home-made fresh cake. Dinners are also included and are stunning: from local food, to more sophisticated meal, everything was delicious!
Marisol the owner is really lovely and always willing to help you in any kind.
Lots of things are provided: internet, swim goggles, tubas, cards, etc...
The room is really good: calm, with a balcony, large bed, bathroom... really good!
Definitely a place to go, it would be a shame to avoid this place!
