Within a 5 minute walk of the pier, the pousada is on the beachfront and in a great location. It rained throughout our entire stay and so spent a little more time inside than we would have done otherwise.

Our room was small for 3 people, and even more so with luggage, but both the bathroom and room were clean. The shower water pressure was great and the beds were comfortable.

Breakfast was lovely and it was great to see the food, including cakes and biscuits were covered to prevent bugs having a nibble. Gabriel at the front desk was very welcoming, and so helpful. He suggested some weather appropriate activities, arranged our massages and transfers to Rio and had great communication with us throughout.

The common areas on the first floor are a little dated in decor, but still pleasant. There is seating, including a lovely, large balcony area overlooking the beach.

Like other travellers wrote, this island is wild and beautiful. The only car on the island belongs to the police, and there are just a few streets, it's not a fashion and comercial place like Buzios, its a hideway, it's great if you want to get away from it all.
This pousada is very simple, but with a good location, near the pier where the boat leads you, a good breakfast and lovely view from the common areas.
Bedrooms are not facing the sea, they are very simple and basic, but clean and large enough. I think it's good accomodation for the price you pay... But depends on what you're looking for.
Check the website, you have mor info.
You also have lots of pousadas nearby, google ilha grande and you'll see the whole list.
I recommend staying in the center of the island, where this pousada is located, as the rest of the island is desert. You may feel isolated and have nowhere to go at night. The few streets are filled with life in the evening, there are lots of young pepople and also families, children selling candies and sweets, evrybody going up and down, some little (and very basic) restaurants right on the beach, you can eat listenning to the sound of waves... its's a very relaxed place this island, i don't think it goes with 5 stars hotels but with these little and roustic pousadas (but also cheap).
I reccomend a trip to Lopes Mendes Beach, it's really beutiful, you go by boat and there you have a pathway leading to this gorgeous beach... I'll post some pictures.
I also suggest staying in Paraty and of couse, Rio de Janeiro.

I had read reviews on other sites before choosing this pousada and was a little disappointed when we saw our room. It was very basic, but surprising quiet at night. Didn't think the place had much atmosphere, it provides free internet access but this wasn't working while we were there..not really a problem as plenty of internet places in the village. After warm welcomes elsewhere in Brazil- in Buzios, Paraty for e.g. it was a bit lacking from the owner here though the rest of the staff were friendly (one was a little like mrs overtune from Victoria Wood's Acorn Antiques!)
Suspect there are better options on the Island.

The Island itself is wonderful. We arrived here from Buzios, while we enjoyed Buzios it was extremely commercial, preferred the Island as it is much less developed and would recommend a trek to the Dos Rios beach.

I stayed here in early March after leaving brazil, we spent a wonderful couple of days in Parathy, where everyone was absolutly amazing and so so polite, we arrived onto Ilha Grande in the most horrific rain, The owner of the Pousada was really rude to us from the start, so much so he would not even say good morning or greet us at any stage of the day. The girls working for him were really beautiful. he has two horrible dogs living in the Pousada who barked well into the night on the first night, very off putting seeing them lying on the chairs in the Lobby, although the place itself is really nice, the rooms are badly built for twin rooms, fine for couples but not to share at twin rooms at all.

We felt a real burden staying there and if it wasnt for the fact that the location is really excellent and we were out all day from early morning we would have moved on.

There was an amazing seafood restaurant a few pousadas down where we ate on two of the nights and it was like walking into a different world,..... We should of moved there from the beginning they were so friendly from the owner down to the wonderful waiters who served us each night.

Ilha Grande is an amazing island when the sun is shining and the weather is good, but not when you Pousada owner wont even greet you. Strange how some people really give tourism a bad name. This was the last stop on my trip and it really left a lot to be desired.

The location of this little gem couldnā€™t be better, in the middle of the village, right on the beach! Agua Viva was very clean and beautifully furnished, and at the same time the athmosphere was very cozy and traditional. The staff was very nice and polite and absolutely did their best to accommodate us and help us around! The wifi worked well. The breakfast was delicious, and the last morning they even started it early, so we could eat before our boat left. This place is one of my favourites ever! Muito obrigada <3

The hotel is great-we enjoyed everything:location, service, cleanliness, food. The owner is a very nice guy and his dogs are calm and cute.Hotel is right at the beach front, close to supermarkets, cafes, bars, boat trips and everything else. Food was tasty and always fresh, breakfast area very sunlit and lovely. Our room on the ground floor was very recently furnished and exceptionally clean, tidied up daily(more than once a day). I loved the bathroom area with the big mirror. The airconditioner worked well too, you just need to not only turn it on where it hangs but also switch on the switch next to the bed (looks like a light switch) which is so useful for a lazy stay in bed if u get hot:) We had a nice green area in front of our room, all in all great stay. We had a mini fridge and a wardrobe too which was usefull. On Christmas night we also received a complimentary bottle of wine which was very sweet of the hotel staff! Five out of five stars. Would definitely recommend to friends.

This pousada is very close to the pier where the boats arrive and depart and it is by the sea. Agua Viva have their own boat as well for tour to visit the many beaches on the island. Service is nearly non-existent if you don't ask for it but their breakfasts are generous, the prices excellent and the number of people staying their small so I felt like it was my own house. The management has very good taste and its run by a wealthy family who also live on the pousada. Their son is also helping to run the pousada and the tour business. Stayed 3 nights there and slept really well and would return. This is an ideal pousada if you can do thinks on your own. If you want management that talks a lot with you this is not the place for you. I actually enjoyed being left alone and to just enjoy the island and its many beaches while I was there with my family.

All beautiful in this beachfront inn, unrivaled view relaxation space overlooking beach, perfect location in the center of the island, just thirty meters from the tourist pier.Super attentive staff, very clean, breakfast without a doubt the best I ever enjoy here on the island because it's the sixth time I come, and today I say goodbye to the island with a taste of longing.I will return to the island and I will definitely stay here. Thank you jellyfish family for the affection.

Not a great experience. One of the windows, if opened fully would bang against the bed ! Similarly, the closet door would swing and hit the fridge :) The wifi was bad and even things like a glass for drinking water (leave alone drinking water) or tissues were not provided. We were forced to buy water from a very basic eatery opposite the place, which was over priced.

Breakfast is served in the room which was quite welcome and was OK with a good helping of local cut fruits. The orientation was not towards hospitality but then maybe I expected more than I should've from a Pousada in a small town. The reception staff was however polite and helpful.

Most roads in Paraty are of very unevenly cobbled stones so you have to be careful, always looking down and sorta embarrassed at the noise your wheeler luggage creates !

Paraty as a destination is out of this world and more than makes up for very basic lodging.
