Our room was small for 3 people, and even more so with luggage, but both the bathroom and room were clean. The shower water pressure was great and the beds were comfortable.
Breakfast was lovely and it was great to see the food, including cakes and biscuits were covered to prevent bugs having a nibble. Gabriel at the front desk was very welcoming, and so helpful. He suggested some weather appropriate activities, arranged our massages and transfers to Rio and had great communication with us throughout.
The common areas on the first floor are a little dated in decor, but still pleasant. There is seating, including a lovely, large balcony area overlooking the beach.
This pousada is very simple, but with a good location, near the pier where the boat leads you, a good breakfast and lovely view from the common areas.
Bedrooms are not facing the sea, they are very simple and basic, but clean and large enough. I think it's good accomodation for the price you pay... But depends on what you're looking for.
Check the website, you have mor info.
You also have lots of pousadas nearby, google ilha grande and you'll see the whole list.
I recommend staying in the center of the island, where this pousada is located, as the rest of the island is desert. You may feel isolated and have nowhere to go at night. The few streets are filled with life in the evening, there are lots of young pepople and also families, children selling candies and sweets, evrybody going up and down, some little (and very basic) restaurants right on the beach, you can eat listenning to the sound of waves... its's a very relaxed place this island, i don't think it goes with 5 stars hotels but with these little and roustic pousadas (but also cheap).
I reccomend a trip to Lopes Mendes Beach, it's really beutiful, you go by boat and there you have a pathway leading to this gorgeous beach... I'll post some pictures.
I also suggest staying in Paraty and of couse, Rio de Janeiro.
Suspect there are better options on the Island.
The Island itself is wonderful. We arrived here from Buzios, while we enjoyed Buzios it was extremely commercial, preferred the Island as it is much less developed and would recommend a trek to the Dos Rios beach.
We felt a real burden staying there and if it wasnt for the fact that the location is really excellent and we were out all day from early morning we would have moved on.
There was an amazing seafood restaurant a few pousadas down where we ate on two of the nights and it was like walking into a different world,..... We should of moved there from the beginning they were so friendly from the owner down to the wonderful waiters who served us each night.
Ilha Grande is an amazing island when the sun is shining and the weather is good, but not when you Pousada owner wont even greet you. Strange how some people really give tourism a bad name. This was the last stop on my trip and it really left a lot to be desired.
Todella sympaattinen majapaikka! ErityistƤ plussaa siitƤ, ettƤ henkilƶkunta laittoi aikaisen lƤhtƶmme vuoksi aamiaisen tarjolle hieman aikaisemmin, jotta ehdimme syƶdƤ ennen lƤhtƶƤ!
Breakfast is served in the room which was quite welcome and was OK with a good helping of local cut fruits. The orientation was not towards hospitality but then maybe I expected more than I should've from a Pousada in a small town. The reception staff was however polite and helpful.
Most roads in Paraty are of very unevenly cobbled stones so you have to be careful, always looking down and sorta embarrassed at the noise your wheeler luggage creates !
Paraty as a destination is out of this world and more than makes up for very basic lodging.
"All rooms are on the first floor (Above ground floor) so I am not sure if it is OK with small kids."Read full review
