We will definitely come back more often!!
Important to be in the car to get to the historic center. Although it is nearby it is necessary to take 5km of piste. We highly recommend the stay.
Most of the time there was nobody at the reception able to understand/speak a few words in English. Good that I speak Portuguese, but the other persons in our group were lost. A guy from a Paraty travel agency called one morning and, as I was not in my room, left an urgent message. Do you think anybody bothered to let me know? No, I found out in the evening because I walked to the reception and asked. Did the lady at least say sorry? No. There were two kayaks a bit hidden behind the pool, too bad we found out on our very last day; nobody cares! The motto seems to be: just find out on your own. If you have a room close to the open breakfast terrace, you' ll probably be waken up early in the morning, because nobody has taken care to tell the personnel not to talk loudly to each other. In the rooms there was not a single information sheet about the hotel. For example: you want to make an internal call to another room. Mmh, how does it work? After some trials you ask reception, but remember that they don' t understand English. So find somebody who speaks Portuguese and finally find out that you have to dial 22 or 23 or whatever first. Needless to say, nobody ever asked if we had ad a nice trip, if we needed anything, if our stay at Santa Cara was pleasant. Apparently, tourists come anyway so nobody cares. A so called four star, but perfectly anonymous hotel.
Well, at least a couple of good things apart from the view: the busy gardeners, breakfast buffet, the friendly guy in charge of opening the gate.
The service in general is terrible.
The employees are untrained and don't even wear uniforms. The few we saw didn't seem to be satisfied, some guests we came into contact with weren't happy either.
The cafe is very basic, very few options.
The hotel has more than 40 rooms and only 10 tables in the bar where they serve breakfast, and depending on the time, 5 tables catch the sun.
Only one of the pool tables has umbrellas.
The restaurant/bar operated very poorly on one day and not the other days, the TV signal was also not working and they did not inform you about this before booking.
The hotel is far from the city and any dining options and the hotel does not offer restaurant or bar service.
If the internet goes down and you need something from reception you need to go there, there are no telephones in the rooms (it will be easier if it's not raining).
Be careful with heavy luggage, access to the rooms is far from the reception/parking lot, steep and rocky.
We occupied 3 rooms for 6 nights, we had high expectations and they were successfully disappointed, which is regrettable, because the hotel is beautiful, in a spectacular setting, on the edge of the mangrove, but the administration is terrible and does an excellent job of offering a terrible service.
The cost is not worth what they offer, they charge a lot and offer little.
Don't be fooled by the scenery.
I do not recommend.
Very poor cleaning service, they only changed the sheets once in a week because I asked. The blanket inside the closet smelled like it had already been used (sweat/body oil smell) so I had to cover myself with the bed sheet. ..We dropped our cell phone under the bed and saw that there was a lot of dust (I'm allergic) as well as cobwebs.
Furthermore, the room only had a socket for the TV and the minibar, there were no sockets near the bed as it says on the website and we had to ask for an extension cord to be able to charge our cell phones due to the lack of sockets... There was no hairdryer in the room either , so we had to borrow one from reception. The parking lot is quite far from the room and we got rained on a few times...
And finally, our biggest disappointment: breakfast. Very different from what is on their website and Instagram, almost every day being drinks, rolls with cold cuts, cheese bread, cake and 3 fruits (which were always full of mosquitoes due to the blankets being torn)... we spent almost a week drinking this coffee and because we went in the low season, we had to wake up very early to be able to drink it... there was one day when we arrived at 8:30 am (coffee runs from 7:30 am to 10:30 am) and something was already gone and there was no replacement.
Anyway, I don't recommend it, I don't intend to return and I think it's delivering well below the price charged.
When the day came to make this wish come true, what a disappointment.
We arrived at the hotel at 4pm to check in, hungry, and were told that the restaurant only opens until 3pm, but the bar was open.
Upon arriving at the bar, a single employee reported that they had nothing to eat, as the one next door was closed, as they had staff shortages.
The room is good, with a good shower, the view is beautiful, which is what should justify the daily price, but the TV doesn't work and they don't have anyone available for maintenance.
We came to celebrate our wedding anniversary, but the hotel's lack of infrastructure was a cold shower.
The hotel is living with history
Live from the fame of the past
Nothing works
It doesn't have enough staff to serve the guests.
We arrived before time and went to the pool bar with the intention of eating something to make time.
There was only one employee serving and informed that the kitchen did not work because of a lack of a cook.
We checked in and when we arrived in the room, the shower and the TV didn't work.
We complained and the reception girl went to the room trying to solve.
I asked if there were any maintenance employees and we were told that there were no.
As we had no solution, we tried to cancel our reservation and recover the amount paid, which was denied.
We left and lost the amount paid. A disappointment and a bucket of cold water.
Don't believe any of their propaganda because it's a lie.
the hotel where dead birds lie decomposing on your balcony,
fungus grows on the ceiling above your bed,
rain pours down inside the hallways,
and the food quality is so far below par that if we were talking about golf, you would consider this hotel the new Tiger Woods.
Welcome to Hotel Santa Clara;
the hotel where sluggish WiFi is only available in a single room on the outskirts of the property,
for 750R$ a night the Bar can't offer you half of the items on their card,
the Reception does not have a single person working there who speaks English,
and as a sad reminder of your ill fortune the price you pay every night for the nightmare is proudly stuck to your door as an A4 print-out.
Welcome to Hotel Santa Clara; never again.
Blood on the shower curtains which was eventually cleaned off 3 days later after complaining, screws sticking out from the back of the bedroom cabinet draws (danger for people with kids😁), maids walking into the room without knocking, two single beds pushed together and they call that a double???????, (oh and it was a romantic weekend), flies on all the food outside for breakfast, cold coffee and whatever you do, don't order room service you will be wiser to get a pizza from town.
False advertising.... They don't have any sun beds to lay on outside in the sun just rusty old metal chairs. Poor selection of TV channels (only one English Channel) and very old rubbish/unstylish TV.
