If you are going to the "Imperial City" of Petrópolis, "Solar do Império" may be a perfect hotel choice! This magnificent neoclassic manor was built in 1875, by a wealth coffee merchant, and after totally restored and renovated, the former "Solar D. Afonso" (named after a deceased Imperial prince) was converted into a beautiful and charming hotel: "Solar do Império"!... More

In mid 19th century, long before air-conditioning, rainy Petrópolis was once where the Brazilian imperial family hid from hideous Rio de Janeiro summers, and where its descendants can be found, living off of unjustifiable taxes the city's inhabitants have to pay to this day to their founding fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, dogs and parrots. One of a few cities in... More

Stayed at Solar for five nights recently and enjoyed every aspect of my stay: the location is wonderful, within walking distance of all Petropolis' downtown tourist sites; the facility is wonderful, I especially enjoyed the 24-hour pool and sauna facillities; and the service is wonderful, butler, breakfast, restaurant... I enjoyed Solar very much!

By the time we left after two nights, we felt much better about this hotel than after the first two hours. We had a very pleasant room, and enjoyed lunching in the airy dining room with rather witty painted wall panels of anteaters holding teapots and capybaras with picnic hampers, and the staff did their best with our requests and... This hotel is not cheap at all, but has all the ingredients that make every penny spent worth it. Despite he fact of being a secular place very well conserved, the room has a big comfortable bed, excellent bathroom and good wifi signal (not sure why would you need it in a city like Petropolis but certainly is a plus).... Preliminary comments: I erred in trying to do too much. Arrived at airport at 6:00 in the first cold and rainy day of our trip, ready for the car ride to Petropolis. The fog made it dark. The road up the mountain was scary and featured tractor trailers doing 50+ on big turns w two modest sized lanes. Only later... More

Hotel Solar do Imperio is perfectly situation for exploring Petropolis, being within walking distance of the major attractions and the centre of town. The impressive historic building is set in large and attractive grounds that were delightfully decorated with Christmas lights whilst we were there. The staff were friendly and the room spacious. The restaurant area had beautiful mural paintings... More

This hotel needs a good cleaning, a paint job and possibly a new manager. The day-to-day staff is great, breakfast is great, the grounds look nice and the hotel building itself is beautiful. However, when you look closely, you see the issues - for example, the indoor pool area is disgusting; not sure when that water was last cleaned. There... More

Thanks god we only stayed for one night. We got a room faxing the street and from 6 am it was absolutely impossible (even with ear plugs) to sleep. The noise of the cars, the trucks, the busses, the motorcycles - like you're sleeping on the sidewalk of an highway. The hotel has charm, but is in urgent need of... More

For a couple of days we felt like nobles in this authentic old colonial styled residence. Plus: warm swimming pool, caipirinha in the entrance, dinner quality, room, breakfast menu, service in the whole. Minus: loud traffic noises from the road surrounding the entire properties ruin our sleeping at 6 am. It's a pity

The Hotel Solar do Imperio is projected to seduce and enchant any observer. The atmosphere is created by two historic mansions that date from 1875 and 1893, both buildings are designated by IPHAN as historical and cultural heritage sites and were restored to convert them to a sophisticated hotel with high quality standard.
