I was in Rio for an exhibition and came down in April to scout the area. The Atlantico Sul was a concrete structure without walls so I was worried about staying but after checking out other accommodations agreed. It is now September and although it's open for business it isn't up to Western expectations. The AC only goes down to 18C (never got the room cold) which is sufficient. The construction dust in the stair well is pretty bad but the two elevators are fast so you don't really need them. The road between the hotel and beach is pretty busy so by 0600 you get plenty of noise to wake up to. The gym is really nice, the roof top pool is good for laps and the option to play on the two clay tennis courts is a perk.

The beach is really nice. Surfing starts at 7.30 and the water seems kid friendly. Although there really isnt any place to eat right here, tere are plenty of good restaurants within a 15 minute drive.

I would stay here again for work but won't be bringing my family here for a vacation.

It was a business trip as well as a little hangout for me. When you are in Rio de Janeiro and don't book sea faced hotel then it's a crime but I didn't want to commit the crime. So I decided to choose this place.

The good thing about this place is it's a two min walk to the beach Ponta and which is rare.

The bad things about this place are the rooms are not big and comfortable, internet (wi-fi)connection is very week.

Over all an expensive place to have some fun and work.

Some people seem to believe that this is a 4 star hotel it is far from that. Maybe 40 years ago. The only thing positive I can say is the breakfast was acceptable. The room was not very clean. It was extremely humid and the air conditioning only lowered the temperature. So it was cool and humid. The refrigerator had mold on the door. The floor was so filthy that I had to throw my slippers away. The shower had mold around the door as did the sink. The sink barely drained and the water coming out of the faucet was light brown. The toilet seat was ready to fall off. There were holes in the wall and the ceiling was bad. The view of the beach was very nice. I will never stay there again

If you plan to go to Rio de Janeiro for the World Cup or the Olympics, be careful when choosing this hotel. It features rooms classified as "tourist" or "standard" which are really very old, poorly decorated and no comfort or amenities such as a shampoo. The price of the room on a normal day was US$ 115, while worth at most US$ 20. I guarantee that you will be very angry while staying at this hotel.

It's a hotel very close to the beach, far away from the main city of Rio de Janeiro but still everything is typical Rio. At the reception we didn't really get specific information which we were asking for. Always just the same information about any bus tour... Maybe they are sponsored by one of this bus tours. :)
I actually don't know why, but we got a room for inhabilities, there was a toilett which was very uncomfortable and for the queen size bed we had a bed side table only on one side.
On the roof you can get a very nice view to Barra da Tijuca, you can see the hole beach and a lot of the city. There is also a nice pool and a relaxing area on the roof top.

Booked this hotel for a week over New Year's as very few other options available. Very good value for price, sufficient breakfast and free parking included. Rooftop terrace is quite nice and also has an indoor section with great view. We had a standard room (no balcony) with nice view of beach and sunrises. Nice sized room for two people with luggage. Large fridge and room has shelving for storing items. Bathrooms are basic; water pressure was great. Beds are very firm with foam pillows. Restaurant is only dining option that is within walking distance, with exception of a few places in a very run down neighborhood a couple of blocks away. I recommend this hotel if you have your own car or don't mind taking taxis to eat and see the sites. Excellent location for commuting to work in Guaratiba.

I was staying in this hotel more than 9 nights, rooms are clean and new: I had room with balcony from the seaside, and there is street between hotel and sea, and it was almost impossible to sleep well. Breakfast was ok, but I will not recommend to choose hotel restaurant for dinner. Staff not really competent, and don't speak really good english.

Rooms are good and comfortable. However cleaning room services may be improved. Spatially with customer attention.

Breakfast is good and the view of the ocean is fantastic.

WiFi is free Niall the hotel but you need to connect several times depending on the floor you are.
