We stayed at Villa Leonor as a group of 15 friends during the 2014 World Cup. Accommodation was very difficult to find in Rio but Paul (the owner) replied to my email promptly and gave us a fair price with no hidden ambiguity. Our party's age ranged from 11 years to 54 years and Villa Leonor was perfect for our...

The house is lovely, with a great terrace for eating or relaxing on. The location is also great; Santa Teresa is nice to walk around if you don't mind a bit of uphill. The staff were very friendly and gave good advice. Nice breakfasts. Excellent value for money.

The hostel was really cozy with friendly straff and great atmosphere. The terrace is a nice place to relaxe and contain a large barbeque. The hostel is newley renovated. We were four girls sharing a room, which was no problem at all. We had a private bathroom. The room was nice and clean, and the staff cleaned the floor every...

Following our recent stay here, we weren't exactly expecting anything fancy but I have to say on arrival the room was very disappointing....very tired, shabby and generally dull, just a step up from a stable really. A noisy fan was the only air con but better than nothing I suppose. The bed sheets were stained and the bathroom generally shabby...

The room was very cozy, with air conditioning and a ceiling fan. The bar and breakfast area has an amazing deck with a view to the center of rio. On Friday we had a Brasilien style barbecue, with live music. The staff is amazing! So warm, friendly and helpful- we came to a hostel and left with a few new...

We arrived in Rio for carnival and after reading reviews for this place we booked as it sounded great. A little far out but close to public transport.. which it wasn't. The taxi dropped us off outside and we thought we were in a dangerous part of Rio. The villa was barely recognizable and just looked like a haunted abandoned...

This place is definitely worth visiting. The rooms are cool at night, the beds are comfy and the you have breakfast included. You've got a large deck and bar area which looks right out over the city giving you a great view day and night. But the best part about this place is the staff! They were all very welcoming...

A very cozy place in a great location with an amazing view of Lapa and city's downtown. Easy to get around the nice spots of Santa Tereza and a 5 minute walk from Riachuelo Street, where there are lots of buses to the best postcards of Rio like the Suggar Loaf, Ipanema and Copacabana beaches, etc... The staff were extremely...

We stayed for two or three nights on our return visit to Rio. It was really cool to see the views over Rio at night time and to experience Santa Teresa (such as the disused tram line) and the staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. The villa itself is not very nice. The hostel was noisy at night time as...

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
