Our original trip to Brazil included one week in Rio (where we stayed at the Mirimar). Our first week in Rio was fab and we loved our stay at the Mirimar. The staff are incredibly friendly, they speak wonderful English and we were even greeted with sparkling wine.

The hotel has great facilities and the pool on the top floor boasts great views of Copacabana. We also made great use of the gym, which was the perfect way to start the morning. The hotel is in a great safe location, we never felt worried walking in the evening.

At first we weren’t keen on the hotel’s breakfast format which was a buffet. My partner and I can’t eat large portions so we felt a buffet didn’t make sense for us, we would have preferred a la carte (please read further for an update on this). Alloro’s restaurant in the hotel was a great place to dine and we ate here a few times.

After our first week in Rio, we travelled to Iguazú. Following our stay in Iguauz, we were meant to travel to Paraty and Ilha Grande which sadly had to be cancelled due to coronavirus and the local authorities cancelling certain tourist activities/access to the island. We couldn’t get a sooner flight back to the UK and decided to call the Mirimar who were more than happy to welcome us back. During what was a stressful afternoon changing our holiday plans and flights, the Mirimar made this experience much more soother and reassuring. It felt good to be back home once we arrived here again. By this point, Rio had become stricter with coronavirus fears and we understood the pool/bar/gym access were closed but we were thankful to have a good hotel room with friendly hotel staff. The hotel kindly upgraded us to an Ocean view room due to us not being able to use their other facilities.

A lot of the main restaurants and cafes in Rio were closing so having one reliable place for dinner at the hotel was really helpful. They also allowed us to eat breakfast (a la carte) which was a great start to the morning.

We would highly recommend staying here - the standard double rooms are on the slight smaller side but we made do with this in the first week. Our second stay (with the Ocean view room) is much more comfortable and would recommend this room. We would happily come back here again!

We arrived at the hotel during the early parts of the morning due to delayed flights. Despite getting in at 2am, we were greeted by the staff in a friendly manner, everyone making our lives easier and trying to offload the burden of a long trip.

The reception, concierge, cleaning, room service, beach service staff are all extremely friendly and willing to help. Everyone goes above and beyond to make your stay as wonderful as possible.

We booked a room with a partial sea view. The room was big for the two of us and the bed was extremely comfortable. The shower and bathroom is of a good size with the pressure in the shower being perfect. A stay at this hotel felt like being in the comfort of our own home.

This trip to Rio for Carnaval was part of my husbands birthday celebration. The hotel was kind enough to organise a small but delicious cake upon arrival.

The hotel is well located, within walking distance to shops, the beach, restaurants and markets. It’s not too rowdy and chaotic. We spent the day on the beach and never felt unsafe.

Everything about this stay was lovely.
We loved every second of being there! Thank you to the staff and everyone at the hotel who made our stay so spectacular. Thank you for the warm welcome and for catering to our every whim!

We really liked this hotel. At first, it seems a bit more expensive than other competitive hotels, but in reality it is a bargain for what you get.
Here are the things we liked:

Bed and pillows: This is the most important thing for me when on vacation, and the bed was extremely comfortable; more like a 5 star hotel.

Room: We stayed in the most basic twin room available and it was still excellent. The furnishings and fixtures were all first rate and the curtains
blacked out all the light if you like sleeping late. A mini-bar and espresso machine are provided along with a complimentary bottle of water each day. Shower was excellent with plenty of power and hot water. The hair dryer even had the nozzle attachment.

Elevators. With 3 elevators, there was never a wait.

Turn down service: This was a welcome surprise for a hotel in this category. We especially liked that they provided fresh towels each night.

Beach: They have their own station on the beach in front of the hotel providing free chairs and umbrellas. The Sol Ipanema hotel in comparison requires you
to sign out the chairs and carry them to the beach yourself.

Roof: Excellent rooftop with a swimming pool, lounge chairs and seating area with awesome view. There is even a nice bar with table service.

We will be back next time we are in the area.

We stayed here for two nights and it’s right across the street from Copacabana beach and a short cab ride to Ipanema beach. We opted for the ocean view and woke up to a great sunrise and view of the beach every morning. Our room was clean and spacious, and the bathroom looked a bit dated but it was clean as well. There was always a security guard outside and there’s cameras in the main lobby and hallways so definitely felt safe. Breakfast was included with our reservation and there was a great selection of breads (especially the freshly baked Pão de Queijo), meats, and cheeses. There were hot food (scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage) and an omelet/crepe station. Rooftop pool was small but clean and had great views. Having a rooftop bar to order food and drinks was a definite plus. The hotel provides beach chairs, an umbrella, and towels if you want to hang out on Copacabana. Just be prepared, to have all the street vendors passing you by asking if you’re interested in buying something. Overall, the hotel was great and you will not be disappointed if you decide to book a room here.

Nice location and room but unhelpful staff. We often felt not taken seriously and were treated rudely when asking for a late check-out. Additionally, we were told we could use the facilities to shower and change after we had checked out but were then not a allowed to do so after a long beach day. Service quality clearly does not match the price.

Dear Mr. DominikE-13, First of all, I would like to apologize if it was not possible to meet all your expectations and if at any time one of our employees behaved inappropriately, again, I apologize. About late check out it is very difficult to grant it in the middle of a high season, yet we grant it until 2:30 pm for you. We do not have a specific place for a bath inside the hotel. What some guests use is the sauna shower where there is no privacy. Anyway, I would like to go back in time and avoid your dissatisfaction with something that has happened, but, unfortunately, I can't. I ask for your understanding and thank you for choosing the Miramar Hotel for your stay in Rio de Janeiro. Sincerely Yours, William F. Rodrigues General Manager

We stayed at this hotel for seven nights from 28 December 2019. We chose it based on the positive reviews it received, and oh boy! were they accurate! The service at this hotel is simply impeccable! I can't even think of one moment where I felt like I was 'begging for service'. From the front desk all the way to the guy who provided service at the beach, they were all so professional and polite. Even though everyone offered us an impeccable service, i wish to single out the 2 guys who normally served us at the pool, unfortunately I didn't take their names, but the one looks oldish and the other youngish, plus the guy who normally served at tbe beach. Like the rest of the e staff, these guys made sure we enjoyed our stay ti the fullest. The only reason I didn't give this hotel a 5 is because of one major issue that we encountered upon our check-in. We were travelling with kids 7 and 2 years old, and upon check-in we were advised that our rooms are on different floors! Like really! Considering we made our booking in early June already, we found this to be inconsiderate of the hotel and unacceptable. It would have been highly appreciated if the hotel had enquired from us if we were aware that's how their standard rooms are arranged, and definitely we wouldn't have opted for such an arrangement, and would have upgraded. With a 2 and a 7 years old, it meant we only could make use of one room at a time. Anyways, we're happy the service, positioning of the hotel, and the champagne breakfast buffet made it work out at the end

Dear Mr. & Mrs. Thapelok2017, Thank You very much for your review at Trip Advisor! Thanks for the compliments too. I apologize for the rooms on different floors. I would like to clarify that it seems to me to be a misunderstanding in making your reservations. For us your reservations came from Booking requesting two double standard rooms where each would have one adult and one child. And this is how we booked the rooms. In our hotel we have only 2 standard rooms per floor, one double and one twin. And as your reservation required two double rooms we had to reserve on different floors. Unfortunately, upon your arrival and with the hotel already fully sold for New Year's Eve we cannot look for other solutions and not even up grades could be granted. Once again, I'd like to say that I really sorry for that. We look forward to your next visit. Happy New Year! Sincerely Yours, William F. Rodrigues General Manager

I will start this review in 2 parts, first our recommend guide then the hotel itself.

1. Private guide tour - Mr. Wolgrand
We asked in reception about a private tour for 6 people since we thought would be vetter deal. They recommend a guide, mr. Wolgrand that he was our 5* experience in Rio.
We got lucky to have the best guide in Rio that basically knows everything about everything. He asked what we want to do and what to see and then he proposed a tour that basically gives us the opportunity to see the most interesting places of Rio.
We visited hidden beaches, famous beaches, very good places to take pictures. He takes us 2 days: one for the beaches and one for the city.
During tye city trip we visited the most common places like the Jesus statue, the mountains peaks, legendary stairs, city center with a famous cafeteria etc.
He was amazing in getting us the fastest tickets, better hours, very good sits (he recommended a very nice restaurant Marius Degustare - and the owner gave us a very good table and full attention and even a small discount).

So if you want a worry free 100% best attractions of Rio, ask about him.

2. The hotel and facilities

The hotel it's very well located in the north part of Copacabana. The facilities of the hotel includes a very nice rooftop pool with amazing view over the Copacabana beach (image below).

The rooms (superior room partial sea view) it's big. Basically we could fit with 4 luggage.

The bed it's very comfortable and they have both strong and soft pillows. For us was a little cold in the room when we arrived but i guess we were looking for hot. That was fixed the next day when we disabled the heating system so it become hot. Of course we had to start again the cooling.... Anyway..., No big problem.

The breakfast was very good offering wide choice of food even champagne for those that want to start the day fresh :).

The rooftop pool and bar it's really something that makes this hotel stand out. The pool was perfect temperature, the view of the beach is amazing, the prices are expensive but worth for the place.

It's on the 16 floor so you can imagine.

Overal our tour guide and the hotel made a very remarcabile experience.

One last thing:
We like beaches organized that offer sun beds and service. Copacabana it's just the opposite so don't expect anything fancy, but totally the opposite. Also ful of homeless people and in some places looking degraded. So this is one reason for me not to come back to Rio as for instance Mexico beaches are 1000 times better.

Dear Mr. Olimpiu, Thank You very much for your review at Trip Advisor! Your feedback is very important for us. As I said recently in another review, in fact, Mr. Wolgrand is an excellent guide who knows the whole city of Rio de Janeiro in depth. I am sad that you found the problems you mentioned at the end of your review. Although they are transitory and the city hall are solving them, they have affected your image of our city. Rio is fantastic, although we have problems you find in big cities. We hope to see you again. Sincerely Yours, William F. Rodrigues General Manager

I stayed for 3 nights in the Miramar by Windsor Hotel in Rio de Janeiro and had a great stay. I arrived in the late evening at the Rio International Airport and had to discover that the requested airport pick-up was not there. This obviously caused me not to be too happy when I finally arrived at the hotel. However the receptionist at that time, Anderson, really made it up to me! He was super attentive and realized that something was not right (without me actually straight addressing it) and so I told him. He visibly was very sorry and apologized several times to me and then he upgraded my room to a bigger room with a better view and would even follow up with me on the next days if everything was fine. I really appreciated this gesture & care! Overall the staff in the Miramar Hotel were great- very attentive and friendly- any requests or wishes were instantly fulfilled with a smile no matter if in the restaurant, pool bar, reception, maids, drivers, etc ...
My room was very spacious, super clean & hygienic, had a nice comfortable bed and it was really quiet at night.
The hotel also has a great location: right in the middle of the Copacabana, the beach is right in front and in the streets behind the hotel are lot's of shops & restaurants so that everything required is around. I felt so save and comfortable that I will soon come again!

We stayed here 4 nights and loved it. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They were also able to give very good recommendations for eating and visiting around the city. The hotel is in a great location and able to just walk across the street and you are on Copacabana beach. I would highly recommend and I will stay here again if I return.

Overall a fine stay. Staff on front desk friendly and helpful. Room pleasant and comfortable, bathroom and shower really nice. Unfortunately, we had a room that was in between two cupboards that the housekeeping staff used late at night and early in the morning. The incredibly thin walls meant you could hear every sound, including the lift at the other end of the corridor. The housekeeping cupboards continually being opened and slammed shut, their phones ringing and them talking loudly made it difficult to sleep. Their cleaning trolley was often left in front of our door. We made the front desk staff aware of this on two occasions, and didn’t bother for a third as nothing changed or improved. Staff didn’t ask us how our stay was like they did the other guests, and I presume this is due to them knowing that the room they located us in makes for an unpleasant sleep. Wifi in the room didn’t work unless you were sat next to the door, perhaps this was due to the room rather than wifi capability as it worked elsewhere. I think perhaps in future this room should not be allocated to guests or as I suggested to the front desk, guests should be made aware so they are prepared for the continual banging at all hours. View from roof top is nice, pool quite crowded. It’s unfortunate our stay was impacted by the room quality as I’m sure the hotel is a wonderful place to stay for most.

Yes there’s a restaurant open for lunch and dinner. We only ate there at breakfast, but there was a very good quality offering with excellent service. Other guests we spoke commented that the dinner offering was very good and a reasonable price.

If I recall correctly it's 6-9 BRL per pod. Bringing your own sounds like a very good idea. The breakfast buffet has coffee if you have opted in for it, however, although the buffet is amazing, the coffee wasn't great in my opinion (too dark and acidic).

I’m really sorry but I don’t know if they run a free bus service from this hotel. It’s about 30 minutes from the airport by taxi. The cruise port is about 20 minutes drive away.
