We stayed at Hotel South American Copacabana for 3 nights and we liked it.
The location is perfect, right between Copacaban and Ipanema, just 5 - 10 minutes walk to each beach. The area round the hotel feels very safe and it´s also close to...More
Nicely placed hotel. In Europe this would be called a good midrange hotel. The ration of quality and price is not right but not any more wrong than elsewhere in Rio. It's clean, well located.... breakfast is good, it's safe. Internet is average... for business...More
The hotel has very small rooms with very noisy old air condition. They moved us 3 times from one room to another, but still very noisy.
They stay over your back to watch what you eat on breakfast - a very embaracing feeling.
This hotel has not been renovated since the 80's and the rooms smell like hey haven't been cleaned since then either. Our first room smelled like smoke so we asked to see another and that one smelled like damp. The third one smelled like something...More
The main advantage about this hotel is its location so you can walk to either Ipanema or Copacabana beach. I am not sure why the hotel is rated as a 4 star hotel on their website but I would rather say it's a 2-3 star...More

South American Copacabana Hotel Rio De Janeiro, Brazil
The rowdy Copacabana is one of the most traditional and old areas from Rio de Janeiro. This neighbourhood is a blend of Brazilian soul - crowded, rowdy and traditional. This neighbourhood has a bit of everything: bars with music, pubs, street fairs, chaotic streets, and many shops. All these things and more live side-by-side. There are options for all price points and tastes. However, the most powerful
draw in Copacabana is still the fantastic view of the coast and the incredible beaches.

I believe that there is on the side parking for hotel guests. Having visited Rio some 40 or 50 times, I feel compelled to likewise tell you that it's not exactly the city you want to drive in. Public transportation is excellent including Uber. You can walk from Copacabana to Ipanema in minutes. Parking is never easy anywhere in Rio. Driving patterns are completely different in Brazil....
The question I really ask is: why rent a car in Rio???? Are you imagining that Rio is like an American city just in South America and signed in Portuguese?
