This is the first place we stayed in Brazil. Newton spoke english, which helped, but any advice he offered was to push a tour on us. Gave us the worst exchange rate for money we have yet to encounter. The whole building was dingy and old. I like a place with character, but this place was just dirty and run...

I stayed at Newton's for 3 weeks during the World Cup. Newton is extremely kind and a very generous host. His staff were all great. The location is very good for shopping and restaurants and a short walk to the metro and beach. It is a safe area and Newton is very security conscious too. I would definitely stay here...

The greatest people. Very safe and affordable. This place has an antique feel. It also has many bad reviews. The reason for this is because the building is very old. Also as I have talked with the owner it is hard to keep clean. In a way the looks are deceiving. I hope to help in many ways to improve...

If you want to go to Rio don't go to this hostel. The owner was so rude, the place is so heavy, with a lot of old crap, there was a lot of cockroach and fleas. Its not really a fun place, and its in a dangerous area too, be careful if take a shower -- there are open wires...

I stayed at Newton's a few years ago and would recommend it to anyone who is in Rio on a budget. For the location (just a few mins walk from Copa beach), it's incredibly well priced. It's also an experience like I've never had anywhere else. It's a great place to meet people. Newton is friendly, he speaks many languages,...

This place was the biggest disappointment I've ever experienced - and I've stayed in some awful places around the world. The beds were old and uncomfortable, the place was infested with fleas and not only that one day I came back from a day trip and found out some of my things were missing. All they said is they weren't...

Stayed in Newtons back in 2003 and damn it was fun. Hope Marco, Fernando and the rest of the crew are cool. They took care of us, took us to Lapa and generally looked out for us.

I spent 3 nights at Newton's Hostel with friends and it was really fantastic for how much it cost us. The interior had a real unique character and really made our time in Rio wonderful. The staff were very helpful and personable and made you feel like you were part of their family. Newton is a fantastic character. There were...

Staying in Copacabana

Neighbourhood Profile
The rowdy Copacabana is one of the most traditional and old areas from Rio de Janeiro. This neighbourhood is a blend of Brazilian soul - crowded, rowdy and traditional. This neighbourhood has a bit of everything: bars with music, pubs, street fairs, chaotic streets, and many shops. All these things and more live side-by-side. There are options for all price points and tastes. However, the most powerful draw in Copacabana is still the fantastic view of the coast and the incredible beaches.
