The hotel was okay and in a good location but next time we'll spend a little bit more and try a different hotel. We spent the equivalent of $74 per night for two people. The hotel was in a very good and convenient location in Ipanema and felt very safe. The room was clean but small and dingy with barely...

Hotel San Marco, Rio de Janeiro I stayed at the Hotel San Marco for 8 nights, which is advertised in the Let’s Go Brazil travel guide as the most inexpensive hotel in Ipenema, one of the nicest areas of Rio. The cost was a mere 840 reals for those 8 nights. The room was small, but had a/c, telephone and...

If you're looking for a relatively cheap, decent (yet basic) hotel in a safe neighbourhood in Rio, not too far from the action, the San Marco may actually be one of the better options. Rooms are basic but clean and the beds are comfortable. Staff are friendly and helpful. Location on the main street in Ipanema is convenient - close...

The soundproofing is low and rooms are quite small. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was clean. There is also a fridge and a safebox in the...

LOCATION/PARKING: This hotel is located in the wealthy Ipanema district of Rio de Janeiro. Because Ipanema is an exclusive area, hotels here cost much more than in Copacabana or other areas of Rio. However, I think it is worth the extra money to stay in Ipanema because the area is safe and there is a lot of police protection and...

Neighbourhood Profile
Ipanema
Ipanema is considered Rio's crown jewel. It offers the best view of the sunset from Arpoador and is inspiration for the legendary song, “The Girl from Ipanema.” Ipanema is an upscale area, home to many high-end restaurants and luxury shops, many of which can be found on the charming Garcia d'Ávila Avenue. The neighbourhood is very rich culturally, housing many art galleries that show contemporary art. There is also a great variety of nightlife in the neighbourhood, which buzzes with many options for every taste.
