I stayed there for one week and I felt like as I were home. The "caipirinhas" were awesome and the staff great. All the place was clean and the kitchen well equipped. Excellent location (close to sambodromo and subway), the staff was very caring and friendly, Hope to be there again.

It's not the cleanest or the most comfortable place in Rio, but that's not what the phenomenal staff are trying to provide. Instead Other Side opens the door for you to a whole side of Brazilian culture that you will never see otherwise. Every day of the week there are things happening in Rio that I wouldn't have heard of...

The hostel is a good location walking distance to lapa.Otherside seems to attract a really nice crowd of travellers. I've stayed here 3 times in total. Brian the owner isnt interested in making lots of money just ensuring guests have a good and real cultural experience. Hes full of information and very helpful. We are not very demanding but this hostel was in such a terrible condition that after 2 nights we escaped and preferred to spend a night in a bus than there. Rooms are very small with numerous beds and no windows and space to put your backpack; there is one toilet and shower in one room for 18 people!!!!!! The...

Great hostel! Extremely cheap even before you factor in the free breakfast and Brian who knows his stuff and can always sort you out with whatever info you're after. The location is amazing, an easy walk to Lapa, right by a metro stop and pretty much sat beneath the sambadromo so you're never going to get lost. Finally, it's right...

This is a good hostel and you get more than what you pay for.. Probably The cheapest one in Rio.. Staff is good with great knowledge about whats going down and whats gone down... Area is very local and cool- try The burger from The lady on The little square for 4 reais! Also walking distance to lapa (downtown party...

Firstly you should ask youself what do you want out of the hostel. If you want to party then you came to the right place! Within walking distans of Lapa and really close to sambadromo. However if you want to go to the beach at for example Cocacobana then you have to either walk around 5-10 min to take a...

When I stayed in this hostel it had the lowest price in Rio, and I later realized this was the most convenient hostel for my sight-seeing program. The hostel is close to the city, museums, and historic attractions and it is well connected to beaches in Copacabana/Leme and Ipanema/Leblon, so that you can take one bus or subway ride. Beds...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
New hostel, new plan: We want travelers who want to see & learn about authentic Brazilian culture, instead of just drinking & wasting days on the beach. Curious, active, open-minded globetrotters- we'll show you the Rio you hoped to find. It all starts with The Story of Samba... and it all starts right here. You cannot find a hostel with a more knowledgeable staff or better location for exploring the essence of the 'Cidade Maravilhosa'. We've made it our goal to be the alternative to the party routine... not that we don't like to go out, but we do it the Carioca way, like locals, and we balance the day with the night. If that's your thing, this is your place. ... more   less
