If I was to go back to Rio I wouldn't stay here again, but it was fine for what it was for. We were a group of 5 backpackers who just needed a place to stay while we saw the city. In terms of location, it was a five minute walk to Copacabana beach and very close to trains and...

We arrived into Rio early and headed straight to hostel. We were stuck outside the hostel for 20-30 minutes ringing the bell. We were eventually let into the building. We had to wait for the manager to see off a prostitute he was with before we could check in. The rooms were filthy, the mattress and pillows were all stained...

Worst hostel I have ever stayed in. Everything they say in the description is a lie. Everything was dirty, the showers were cold, there was no breakfast available, no pool parties in the non existent pool, and things were stolen from my room by the hostel employees/owners friends who just slept in spare empty beds. Do yourself a favour and...

For the location, the price of everything in Rio and the price of the hostel, this place is alright. Pros- the breakfast is really good (if you're there before others, seems like they don't refill after everything is gone, but since I'm an early-riser I didn't have a problem). The location- it's only a few blocks from Copacabana in a...

Great party house - close to the beach and safe. good food and happy people. the 24-man door is not the best place to sleep as other people don't have respect. I'd suggest private dorm if I were you!!!

Great people and friendly staff, good value for money and great location, in the centre of Copacabana but on a nice and safe back street with no traffic. Toilets and bathroom recently refurbished so that's a bonus too. I've been to Mellow Yellow twice now, would go back again.

Arrived here with a reservation at 8 in the morning after traveling 10 hours overnight to a hostel that took 5 minutes to open the door. A man opened the door eventually and said we can't check you in cause we have no power and proceeded to shut the door with that being all he said. So we had to...

Mellow yellow is centrally located, short walk from the beach, supermarkets, bakeries, restaurants, street market and shops. The rooms, kitchen and facilities are spacious, clean and well kept. Love eating breakfast on the outdoor upstairs area every morning. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Recommended to many friends and family and will definitely return!

Really close to the beach, large, clean rooms and a good bar. Don't go if you want to sleep much, though as it's more of a party hostel. Staff were friendly and breakfast good. Good mix of travellers from all over.

Compared to other hostels in the vicinity, the rooms were quite spacious and the facilities clean and tidy. Our reservation was blundered however, it's the world cup so that's understandable. Have a back up plan for breakfast as it is very limited and there is no replenishment.

Staying in Copacabana

Neighbourhood Profile
Copacabana
The rowdy Copacabana is one of the most traditional and old areas from Rio de Janeiro. This neighbourhood is a blend of Brazilian soul - crowded, rowdy and traditional. This neighbourhood has a bit of everything: bars with music, pubs, street fairs, chaotic streets, and many shops. All these things and more live side-by-side. There are options for all price points and tastes. However, the most powerful draw in Copacabana is still the fantastic view of the coast and the incredible beaches.
