Mama Ruisa is amazing, the hotel is well located in santa tereza, very close to everything, in 5 minutes walk you find, bars, restaurant and gift shops. The interior of the hotel is very well put together, every detail of the interior design adds to it and you feel the classy side of brazil culture in it, with the photo...

Unfortunately, we stayed only three nights in this beautiful oasis in Santa Teresa. The whole team as well the owner were always very helpful and charming. The location and the interior of the villa are fantastic. Breakfast is awesome. We would always comeback to this beautiful place and highly recommend it to family and friends.

Beautiful historic mansion with a wonderful relaxed environment just like staying with a friend. Amazing views of the city and lots of nearby attractions. The perfect place from which to experience Rio.

Beautiful and charming boutique hotel in one of my favourite areas of Rio. Pauline and the Mama Ruisa team make you feel at home straight away, they were very helpful and friendly throughout my stay. The hotel itself is gorgeous.. it feels secluded, with a wonderful veranda with fabulous sweeping views over Rio, yet all the fun of Santa Teresa...

I have been so often in Rio de Janeiro but the first time I didn't either stay at Copacabana or in Centro. Santa Teresa is located high above sea level and nevertheless even by footwalk it is possible to go to the city center. Mama Ruisa is a fantastic small and stylish hotel. It is a quite paradise within the...

I booked two different areas of rio to stay after meeting a couple of locals in my home country who advised me to stay in Ipanema. I was going to stay the whole time at mamas because I love all things character and old, but they advised me Ipanema was way better for me - what a shame I listened...

Mama Ruisa is a very charming hotel: close to the Gloria metro, with a glorious view to the Rio bay, it is exquisitely decorated. Full of art and antiques, quiet and inspiring, the place is gorgeous. Service is swift and very nice. Highly recommended!

The staff at this establishment were incredible. Jean Michel has created a beautiful space and is an incredible host. Pauline was delightful, gave us a fantastic tour, made us feel instantly welcome and curated everything for us down to recommending specific dishes at specific restaurants. Alessandra and the rest of the staff were incredibly gracious and accommodating. How many hotels...

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
