It's one of the view remaining period houses in Ipanema, there's a really pleasant courtyard and rooms are well decorated. Showers are über powerful (and poss for that reason need constant mopping). Breakfast is really generous, with great cakes and staff very helpful. Best thing is the location, pretty much a block away from Posto 9 on Ipanema beach!

Perfectly located in the heart of Ipanema, The Mango Tree is not your average hostel! Set in and around a traditional house retaining lots of original features, the common facilities are excellent; well equipped lounge/TV room, fully stocked kitchen, 3 communal PCs & a great outdoor (covered) dining area. I stayed in an en-suite room at the rear of the...

My boyfriend and I stayed here in mid-September for almost two weeks and remember this place as one of the highlights of our trip. Located a block away from Ipanema beach, this hostel is close to all the major avenues, restaurants, bars, shops and attractions in Ipanema. The staff were friendly and helpful and always available. The hostel is run...

I was here with my girl, in a double room with private bathroom, the hostel is good and there are a internal bar that open in the evening. The guys of the staff are happy to give you information, and the room is cleaned every day, towels changed every two. Excellent choice for visiting Rio and meet new people.

Nice hostel in a great area. staff were friendly and helpful and a lot of tours can be organised with the hostel directly. Rooms were basic, clean. Had a double room but had to share a bathroom. Breakfast only average. Very good option for a hostel in Rio

We stayed in a double room on two occasions, one time with ensuite and one time without. Staff is friendly and helpfull. Remember the adress and house number though, because on the outside there is no sign saying it's the mango tree. Breakfast is good, the area is safe, just a two minute walk from Ipanema beach. Other facilities are...

Fabulous location only 1 block from Ipanema beach. Stayed in a 6 bed dorm, comfortable beds-linen included, good breakfast, free wifi, friendly, helpful staff. Not a party hostel as the bar closes at 10pm and you have to leave the outside area, but that suited me fine

I stayed at the Mango Tree for one whole month. The hostel is located just 1 block far from the Ipanema beach. The rooms are comfortable, wifi is available and is very efficient, breakfast is really great (with tropical fruits and juices!!!). It is also located 4 blocks far from a metro station (General Osório) which runs efficient and quick...

I only had 40 hours in Rio and I was travelling on my own I wanted somewhere easy, safe and friendly. I also wanted somewhere I could organise some trips from. I got all this from the Mango Tree - I booked a single room, which was perfectly adequate. I was able to leave my luggage safely for the whole...

I stayed here in April 2012 and after staying at other hostels in Rio, this is the best one. Great safe location. Close to Ipanema beach, subway, many bars and restaurants. Staff is nice and helpful. It can be quite noisy as I stayed at a dorm outside overlooking the courtyard area. Bathrooms are not the cleanest but ok. Good...
