The Maria Santa Teresa is definitely a hidden gem in Rio. The neighborhood is unlike what most associate with the city, and the property provides breathtaking vistas from its perch high in the hills. It's location affords a pleasant escape from the hustle and bustle below. Rooms are nicely appointed.

The Maria Santa Teresa sits on the very top of the colonial-bohemian neighborhood of Santa Teresa with a breathtaking view on downtown Rio. The house doesn t look spectacular from the outside and the design of the rooms is not exactly funky but everything works, is comfortable and clean. and high up behind the house is a beautiful terrace with...

What a wonderful B&B away from the noisy Copacabana e Ipanema beaches. This place has everything a big chain hotel in Rio can offer but the rooms are much bigger and it's less than 5 minutes taxi ride from the bohemian district of Lapa. Providing nothing has changed since my stay in Jan 2010, I highly recommend Um Meia Tres....

Room and common areas were clean and nicely decorated. The pool is a nice place to relax and see the city. Staff was pleasant, if not delightful. Would recommend with the following notes. The breakfast is good, but pretty light. There is a lot of stairs at the B&B and it is on the top of a big hill, so...

Travelled to Brazil for the Confederations Cup. First stop was Rio. Blown away by finally making the Maracana at last and blown away by Um Meia Tres as well. Bill and Sue were fantastic hosts. Room was excellent as was the breakfast. Monkeys on the balcony enhanced our mornings. View is superb. Lovely walk down to Gloria metro. Excellent (though...

What more could you ask for! We really enjoyed our stay at Um Meia Tres. Santa Teresa is so much more fun than the rather bland Copacabana and Ipanema. Really good restaurants close by, short walk to the bus, bit longer to the metro but all downhill (get a taxi back as the hills are very steep!) Near to Lapa,...

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
