WiFi included but access limited at various times.
Ski storage is free to guests but wouldn't recommend (we didn't use). Room is off the restaurant downstairs and is accessed from outside, door isn't locked so anyone has access.
Location is good. 10 min walk to the Rila Hotel (Main area where slopes are located) no noise from local bars etc.
Staff members ok, male members seem to be less approachable than the women staff. Didn't seem to understand much English, snatched passports out of hand during check in etc.
Overall our trip was great, for a budget hotel which gives you the basic needs. The sign outside still continues to say 4* so they need to update that.
Evening meal was disappointing, always soup and then a very limited choice of food (typically 1 or 2 dishes), mostly pork based. Very few vegetables and certainly not suitable for vegetarians. Biggest problem was that food was put out at 7.00 and then cooled rapidly so was often just luke warm.
Owner was helpful and friendly and location was near enough to 4 man chair lift that walk was ok in ski boots
The villa was warm and spacious, dated furniture but clean and comfortable. The bedrooms all had 2 single beds pushed together. Ample storage space and radiators, all individually controlled. The bathrooms were fine with plenty of hot water although one shower cubicle leaked flooding the floor every time. Tap water cold and perfectly drinkable. Slightly oddly a kettle was in the villa but no mugs so it was a bit pointless.
Breakfast was in the main hotel and was fine for fueling up before skiing. There was a coffee machine which made a good espresso, a selection of meat, cheese, bread, honey etc. also hot eggs and sausages.
Location was good, 5 min walk to the slopes and in a very quiet woodland area.
Overall we were happy with our stay and would return.
With a great location close to the ski area as well as a full breakfast we had a good stay in general.
The house we stayed in had a fireplace which was used to warm up the house even the gas heater was available.
Unfortunately we had no kitchen supplies and we had to improvise.
The wifi was OK. Towels and linen included. Very quiet and beautiful with the plenty of snow.
Have a safe trip and enjoy skiing.
Buon voyage!
Food awful by the 2 night
There’s no jacuzzi as it’s been broken for years
Insects left in rooms every am
Pictures available
The worst thing is the whole place is ancient
One of the heaters knob fell off as it makes an awful noise at night
We tried adjusting it.
The next day the owner made us pay for it! Very rude
Spent a little more and go for better accommodation!
Trust me
The St. George is a small hotel of 29 rooms and 6 "suites" which are actually seperate houses. Each suite has 3 BR and 2 baths, a LR with fireplace and seems nice. We stayed in the regular hotel rooms and had half board. The rooms were a good size and had king beds and a minibar and shower. Everything was very clean and comfortable. They even had wireless internet for free.
Breakfast buffet was adequate, but they have not heard of a warming table so that the scrambled eggs got cold very quickly. The coffee was from a one cup machine and I did not have a hot cup of coffee all week. Dinners, as opposed to what I had heard at other hotels in the town, were individually prepared and there was even a small selection of main dishes including chicken, fish, pork and even a veal steak to choose from on some nights..
One word of warning, the hotel advertises a jacuzzi and a sauna (both wonderful additions after a day on the slopes) There is an extra charge to use these services! For the jacuzzi the charge was 60 Lev or about $US 50 for an hour! Needless to say, we did not use it. All in all, the hotel is basic and recommended.
The skiing is Borovets was OK but nothing special. As other reviews have stated, the lift lines are exhorbinately long. On the second and third day, there was a heat wave (20 degrees C in town) so that EVERYONE went up the gondola to the top, including all the beginners classes. The wait when the gondola openned was over an hour and the trip is another 30 minutes. At the top there are mainly long button lifts, which would be chair lifts in any other European resort. That increased the difficulty of skiing as the ride up was tiring (from squeezing the button between your legs). Also, the restaurants on the mountain were of poor quality and over priced. The ham and cheese toast that I order was barely warm and the cheese not melted. It is recommended to go back to town to eat, but the trade off is an hour down and back plus waiting times.
The prices in Borovets used to be much cheaper and the rise is not commensurate with the rather poor infrastructure. The packages are quoted in Euro although the local Lev is still the currency.
In summary, we had a nice week and the skiing was adequate, despite the warm weather. Would I return? To the hotel, yes. To Borovets, probably not.
All the staff were very friendly and the rooms were clean. We would have preferred more variation at breakfast but all thing considered it is probably the best 3* hotel in Borovets
