Hotel Croatia Cavtat offers a scenic location lauded by guests for its breathtaking views, despite challenges posed by steep steps. While some rooms receive compliments for their modernity and cleanliness, others face criticism for being outdated and poorly maintained. The service spectrum ranges from warm receptions to occasional inattentiveness, particularly in the dining areas. Guests appreciate the piano bar's ambiance, though some areas are said to lack vibrancy. Cleanliness is generally praised, though inconsistencies arise. Amenities satisfy most, and while some aspects are deemed good value, food and drink prices can be steep.

My young family and I stayed here for a week during early August.
From the second we arrived we felt the hotel had a sense of calm and opulence, albeit a large Hotel it never felt crowded or chaotic.
No mad dash for sunbeds, you can’t obtain pool towels until 8am and often when we wandered round at 10am there was plenty of beds left at the pool. The prime spots at the “beach” do get reserved quite early but certainly not before 8am. Water temp was great and the snorkelling was a big hit with my family. The water is crystal clear.
We did jet skis (80 EUR for 30 minutes), paddle boarding, kayaks and peddle boats, all reasonably priced at 20 EUR for 60 minutes.
Yes the drinks are expensive at the hotel, but this is a 5* hotel and you get what you pay for. They have a daily happy hour (3-5pm at pool bar) which offers 20% off cocktails.
A Coke is 4.40EUR and a cocktail around 11EUR, a glass of wine with dinner was around 7EUR.
We found the quality of the food was exceptional and we never tired from breakfast or evening meal, great idea to put a menu up in the morning for guests to see what will be served in the evening.
We really enjoyed lunch at the Spinaker restaurant one day, attentive staff and high quality food. The lunch vouchers for children are a big bonus, there is a daily choice of chicken/chips, fish/chips or tomato pasta. Large portions and decent quality food too.
We stayed on the fifth floor in an upgraded sea view room and the view was truly outstanding. My son loved the kids disco and it was lovely that my husband and I had that hour each evening to enjoy a cocktail knowing he was taken care of and having fun.
Cavtat is beautiful, the ricotta and pistachio ice cream is an absolute must try in my opinion, we did a water taxi to Dubrovnik, it was beautiful but sooooo hot that we didn’t stay for longer than a couple of hours. There was a small issue with an unexpected charge on our room following confusion at check in, but the management were prompt and effective at resolving this issue. Thank you!
The buggy service up/ down the hill is fab and very reliable but we did enjoy the short ten minute walk if it wasn’t in the midday heat. No reflection on the hotel but I would recommend mosquito repellent, a plug for your room along with a decent afterbite cream.
We went to beach Zal and did the inflatable aqua park in the sea which was 15EUR per person for an hour, money well spent, great fun.
We are already looking to book a return trip early next year and I would highly recommend this hotel to couples and families alike. On our recommendation my parents have just booked for next year too. Thank you for a wonderfully memorable holiday, we will be back and we can’t wait. Thank you for having us!

It’s not hard to see why this hotel has won awards.

Upon arrival, you are greeted by the lovely smell of rituals fragrance in the air , in a huge capacity reception area. You are immediately assisted by reception and luggage staff.

Staff : All staff, from housekeepers to managers, are polite and helpful with no language barriers, as they ALL speak very good English.

Hygiene : Housekeepers are respectful of privacy and service the rooms to a high standard. The rooms are spacious and have tea/coffee (instant) facilities available. The mini bar is also well stocked ( additional cost ). Additional pillows or blankets via reception.

Catering: Restaurants and bars are plentiful in the hotel , catering for most dietary requirements. Main dining is the restaurant one floor down from reception. Poolside bar offers food too , if you want a light lunch . The food is of good quality and served in a very clean serving area, food is clearly labelled with description . Breakfast ranges from yogurt, cereals through salads and pastries up to cooked to order omelettes with the usual eggs, bacon, sausages etc.

Facilities: Pools (salt water not chlorine) are clean and well maintained. Lots of seating areas to relax with comfortable seating in bar areas or sun loungers always available poolside or down by the harbour. The Adriatic waters are crystal clear but be aware , the beaches are rocky, so swim shoes are recommended.

Spa, hairdressers, shop , car rental and day trip arrangements all accessible to guests but at additional cost.
Ferries available in the harbour for the short trip to Dubrovnik by the many boats offering ferry services.

Access to Cavtat down the steps through the woods to the harbour or by the hotel golf cart ( complimentary) , for the older and less mobile guests.

Cavtat is a place of beauty.
The clear waters of the Adriatic, boats and yacht’s in the harbour , the stone buildings that retain the warmth into the evening. A place where tourists are made to feel welcome and safe… thank you to all who gave us great service at the Hotel Croatia, Cavtat. 😎🇭🇷

Me and my partner just finished our 9-night stay at the hotel. We paid for a room with a sea view (extra £20) and if you’re considering it, I’d strongly advise you to pay the small amount extra for this too. The view was extraordinary, stretching way out across the adriatic, with a panorama that included Dubrovnik. At night, there was tons of stars and you could easily see Orion’s belt. Be aware that the minibar is not free! The room was well equipped with a comfy bed. The air conditioning worked mostly okay, on 3-4 occasions it stopped working and we had to call reception to reset our room which is a minor inconvenience but nothing major. The cleaners start early (sometimes before 9am), so vacuuming can interrupt if you want a sleep in, and a couple of times they ignored the electronic do not disturb sign (there is an electronic and a paper sign) so use both if you don’t wish to be disturbed.

As for hotel facilities, there is an indoor and outdoor pool of decent size. The water is very salty in both pools. Make sure to get a strawberry daiquiri at the pool bar, they’re incredible! We also used the steam room and sauna, you could walk in to either of these without booking which is great.

As for the breakfast, which everyone seemed to have included, I’d give it a 3/5. Some mushrooms/hash browns wouldn’t have gone amiss and as a pastry lover you’ll be disappointed as there are just croissants available. We stayed in the hotel for dinner once (only due to the rainstorm) and it was not worth the €30pp price tag, but fine for one night (perhaps we were spoilt by the incredible local restaurants!).

There was one evening where the water was turned off throughout the entire hotel, we came back to a letter apologising for the inconvenience. I felt this was handled quite poorly, I had to ring down to find out it affected the whole hotel (so couldn’t use pool showers etc.), and no form of compensation for the inconvenience.

Despite these small things, this is a great hotel, and the main reason for that in my opinion is the local town attached to it. Everyone is incredibly friendly and helpful to tourists. We went on two excursions, one with Michael (who I’m sure you’ll meet when you see him at his concession stand) on a wine tasting tour and another through Vrko (called himself Jo) on a cave tour. Both around €60 pp. I highly recommend both excursions, or even a chat with Michael or Vrko for some restaurant or bar recommendations.

Overall, we had a fantastic holiday and this hotel is a great base for visiting the Dalmatian coast. Thanks for taking the time to read my honest review!

The hotel is impressive when you arrive. We had to wait for our room as we arrived about 12 after our cruise as part of a TUI cruise and stay. We chose to stay for 7 days half board. We had asked for a twin room I was concerned with the placement of the beds with the pillows covering an electrical socket. After we wrote a review on here the must have read it and moved the beds but that was on day 5. I was disappointed that we paid for a 5 star hotel for a special holiday it felt more like a 3 star hotel. The breakfast was a buffet with the same foods every day. The dinner was also a buffet and was terrible. The food was tepid and most of the time verging on cold. The only other alternative in the hotel which advertised multiple restaurants was the steak restaurant we could eat there with a 20% discount. We chose to eat in Cavtat which is lovely but expensive (lunch €46 for Calamari a beer and Coke Zero if you wanted a burger and chips €22, dinner two courses the starter a sharing platter €96 one beer 2 glasses of wine).
I watched the staff at the hotel mix the tepid food with fresh food brought out from the kitchen never saw them testing the temperature with a food probe. Surely if a Marella ship can keep the food piping hot then a 5 star hotel should be able to do the same. The only bar available within the hotel in the evening was the piano bar with a gent playing the piano. He was good but as we stayed for a week we began to hear the same tunes again. The bars are expensive in the hotel €11 for a cocktail, €7 for a beer and about €9 for a small wine.
Given the cost to stay at this hotel, a treat I was disappointed having just come off a cruise, I felt the Marella cruise was so much better than the service this hotel provides. We asked the Tui rep where we could get fresh drinking water and was told to use the bathroom tap. I’ve stayed in 3-4 star hotels before all with fresh water drinking fountains. This hotel also advertises beaches there are no beaches just huge rocks with swimming pool type steps into the sea, we noted lots of families at the hotel I hope they weren’t expecting the advertised beaches, while we were there the red flag and the rope blocking the steps to the rocks and the sea never moved. I’m disappointed as a treat we paid for a 5 star hotel and feel we wasted our money and should have chosen a 3 or 4 star which are comparable with this hotel.

Dear Cindy, Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback about your recent stay. We appreciate your honesty and understand your disappointment that certain aspects of the hotel did not meet your expectations of a 5-star experience. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the bed placement in your room and the delay in addressing it. We will review our room setup procedures to ensure that all electrical sockets are easily accessible and that the furniture arrangement is comfortable for our guests. We also acknowledge your comments about the food quality and temperature in the buffet restaurant. We are committed to providing a high standard of dining, and we will address your concerns with our culinary team to ensure that all dishes are served fresh and at the appropriate temperature. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the limited variety of dishes and the lack of alternative dining options besides the steak restaurant. We understand your disappointment with the lack of waiter service in the piano bar and the repetitive music selection. We will take your feedback into consideration as we evaluate our entertainment offerings. Regarding the pricing of drinks, we strive to offer a variety of options to cater to different budgets. We appreciate your feedback and will review our pricing strategy. We apologize if you found the information about the beaches was misleading. We also understand your concern about the red flag and restricted access to one part of the sea. We prioritize the safety of our guests and follow local regulations regarding sea conditions. We value your feedback and will use it to continue improving our services and facilities. We hope that despite these concerns, you were able to enjoy some aspects of your stay and the beauty of Cavtat. Sincerely, Marijo Japaric Hotel Director

The hotel grounds and location are beautiful although the sea view rooms need a refurb, parts of the hotel have been refurbed and those rooms are better but no sea view and an extra charge for the rooms. The staff especially the ones who clean the rooms are very friendly and helpful and the evening chocolates with the turndown service are a nice touch and delicious. There isn’t enough space around the pool when the weather is nice and there were issues with the children’s pool not being cleaned. The food is average, it’s not 5 star in-fact it was very canteen style and not seasoned plus it was never hot only warm. We had bad weather so when it was bad it became overcrowded inside which i understand isn’t a fault of the hotels however for the size of the hotel they should have at least one more bar that’s open in the evenings and there is definitely space to do so. Due to the bad weather the staff couldn’t cope with the demand and service was affected, again I know the hotel can’t control the weather but a simple fix here is more staff. Overall a disappointing holiday and I wouldn’t return. The location of the hotel and Cavtat is truly beautiful

Cavtat is a beautiful and picturesque village surrounding a marina, with plenty of photo opportunities and restaurants to enjoy. It's equally enchanting both night and day and a perfect place to base your holiday to Croatia with close proximity to Dubrovnik.

The Hotel Croatia is an excellent choice for such a holiday because you have Cavtat on your doorstep just a few hundred metres walk. You can also use the free golf buggy which goes up and down the slope all day for guests, and this is for everyone,  not just those with mobility issues. (Queues minimal when we were there, never waited longer than 10 mins at any time of day).

The hotel is well maintained and our room spotless. The cleaning staff attentive and always so friendly, which is likewise for most hotel staff. As always there are 1 or 2 'jobsworths' :) ....

Buffet restaurant was excellent with good choice and changing each night. We did not use the steak restaurant, but the beach one is fabulous with a perfect view of Cavtat over the turquoise blue waters. A real gem, and also next to numerous sunbeds for a great lazy day sunbathing and the occasional dip in the lovely warm water. People looking for a traditional beach will be disappointed if they are expecting white sands etc. This is not a sandy beach location at all and I'm not sure why they try to sell it as a beach.

The pools (indoor and outdoor) are both saltwater and tbh rather cold. The outdoor one is nice though during a very hot day. The indoor pool really should be heated and a let down.

Dubrovnik can be accessed by bus, taking over an hour, or by boat for 20€ return per person and takes 45 mins, or we found the best way is by booking an Uber taxi for about 25€ taking under 30 mins. (Be warned if you ask the hotel to book a taxi we were quoted 60€!!!)

To summarise,  this hotel is perfect for your trip to Croatia and Cavtat / Dubrovnik. It's not an all inclusive style offering but half board gives you what you need, allowing flexibility to eat out and enjoy the local options.

We had a town view over the marina and it was fabulous, but this was after good research. We saw a number of rooms facing inwards that are probably the ones I am reading complaints on here about. Do yourself a favour and pay the extra if you can for a very different experience!

My grown up daughter and I have just had a lovely 3-night break here.

The hotel is huge and very James Bond like, we had a city view room on the 7th floor which was clean and comfortable but the balconies are small and views limited due the beautiful trees in the grounds of the hotel.

We booked a half-board package and thought the food was pretty decent given the number of guests they were catering for. Drinks in the hotel weren’t too badly priced either.

I don’t think I’d like to visit peak season as I could imagine the pool areas getting very overcrowded and you’d find it difficult to find a spot. 3 nights was also enough for me as I think any longer on a half board basis and it would be a bit repetitive.

My biggest gripe is around the facilities for those with late checkouts. Unable to secure our room beyond the 12pm checkout time, we were told we could make use of the changing facilities on the 5th floor beside the pool/spa area, well… the showers are one massive wet room with no lock and nowhere to place your bag/belongings. The only option is to put your bag/change of clothes in a locker and wander out in a towel after your shower. There are changing rooms round the corner with sliding doors which when you slide them across still leave gaps either side where you can see people walking past. I’m sure for the size of the hotel they could have a dedicated changing area for this purpose.

Cavtat is beautiful though and it has been an amazing break.

This is my fourth stay at this hotel and it continues to provide a fabulous experience. I stayed in room 909 and the view from the balcony is stunning. Room 909 is one of their recently refurbished rooms and the room relected this as all the furniture , floor and bathroom appeared to be new.
All the staff proved to be very friendly and efficient. The hotel is very clean.
I stayed with my wife on a half board basis. The breakfast in the morning was excellent and the choice of what to eat was extensive. The evening meal provided a lot of choice and was good value .
I note that one reviews questioned its 5 star status as there was not individual evening waiter service as opposed to the buffet style offered. The buffet style evening meal is clearly stated when you book half board and this seems a strange criticism of something which is clearly stated when you book. 5 star status reflect the facilities that the hotel offers and this hotel has everything.
When we were there a conference party was there but this did not affect our enjoyment or affect us in any way.
There are steps up to the hotel which one should be aware of. We enjoyed the challenge and the exercise they provided . However the hotel does provide a buggy service to take you up and down should you wish to avoid the steps.
Cavtat retains its very special ambience of providing nature at its best with sun, sea and spectacular views over its surroundings whilst also having some very excellent bars and restaurants.
It is very easy to get into Dubrovnik by Bus (4 euros each), Sea taxi (20 Euros each) or Uber ( 21 Euros for up to 3 people).
The hotel is large, has very good facilities and is made excellent by the staff who are very efficient at what they do and on the whole do their jobs with a smile.

We're also thrilled that you found our staff to be friendly, efficient, and that the hotel met your cleanliness expectations. We're glad the breakfast and dinner buffets met your needs and provided good value. We understand that everyone has different preferences, and we appreciate your perspective on the buffet-style service. We're proud of the facilities and services we offer, and we strive to provide clear information about them during the booking process. It's also great to hear that the conference didn't impact your stay and that you enjoyed the steps (and the buggy service as an alternative). Cavtat truly is a special place, and we're fortunate to be situated in such a beautiful location. We're glad you took advantage of the local transportation options to explore Dubrovnik and the surrounding areas. Your kind words about our staff mean a great deal to us. We pride ourselves on their efficiency and friendly service. Thank you again for choosing us for your holiday. We look forward to welcoming you back for another amazing stay! Sincerely, Marijo Japaric Hotel Director

Have just returned back from a 7 night stay in Hotel Croatia Cavtat - we had a wonderful time with our 4 year old son.

The airport transfer to the hotel was very smooth and took approx 10 mins to Cavtat. Hotel staff were very friendly and they had different desks for hotel reception, guest relations and a nice shop for snacks, souvenirs and swimming stuff/toys.

We had a superior sea view room on the 9th floor and it was spacious and very clean - saw some great sunsets from the balcony. Bathroom was lovely had a rainfall shower and they had easy to access good quality products and bathrooms/slippers provided. My only issue with bedroom was the smart tv - the remote suggested you could use Netflix on it but it didn’t work which meant tv choice was a bit limited (but a minor thing overall).

The hotel is massive - with some fantastic sea views and also over Cavtat harbour. The pools were really good - one indoor one and one big outdoor one with a smaller kids pool there also. We also were able to get sun loungers near the pool even though we headed down after breakfast finished at 10.30.

My 4yr old son loved the pools - although the big ones are quite deep in places (2.8m at deepest). They have some classes on in the morning (water Zumba etc) which looked quite popular - they played the Robbie Williams song ‘feel’ to this which stuck in my head quickly!

The swimming area by the seafront restaurant spinnakers is great too with clear water and lots of opportunities for water sports with a small pebble beach where children can walk into sea and play too. In the town they have another children’s playground with dinosaur for children to climb on and planks to balance on which my son loved

Children’s playground is good for families and they have a volleyball pitch and table tennis tables too. We used the kids club twice in the week - and it was a good size with great staff and lots of toys for children to play with.

We did bed and breakfast there - was always a good quality and lots of choice - they had a pancake area, omelettes, porridge etc which was lovely. The lunch restaurant near the pool Alverde was good too and kids get to eat a meal free between 11-6 which was a nice touch - the sandwiches and burgers were good quality.

The piano bar was great too - with a nice terrace area with comfy chairs - drinks were reasonably priced for area.

We ate out for dinners down in Cavtat harbour most evenings and the food is very good in nearly all restaurants - our favourite was dalmantinos which served some great meat and fish platters. Also really liked bokun and restaurant leut.

Overall a lovely stay and will come again in future!

Dear Clarkey, Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful family experience at Hotel Croatia! We're thrilled to hear that you and your son had a fantastic time and enjoyed the spacious, clean room with those stunning sea views. It's great that the amenities, like the bathroom products and bathrobes, were to your liking. We apologize for the inconvenience with the smart TV and its limited channel selection. We are looking into ways to enhance the TV experience in the future. We're pleased that you made the most of our pool facilities and the beautiful swimming area by Spinnakers. We're also glad your son enjoyed the children's playground and the kids' club. It's wonderful that you found our breakfast to be of good quality with plenty of choice, and that the Alverde restaurant offered tasty lunch options with the bonus of free kids' meals. We appreciate your kind words about our staff and the relaxing atmosphere in the piano bar. It's also great to hear you enjoyed exploring Cavtat and its delightful restaurants. We look forward to welcoming you and your family back for another memorable stay in the future! Sincerely, Marijo Japaric Hotel Director

We mostly enjoyed our 4 night stay and found the staff to be excellant throughout the hotel and a good standard of service. We stayed on a half board basis and found the breakfast to have a good, varied choice which set us up for the day. Unfortunately we found the evening buffet choices to be limited and not very good, especially the meats which were over cooked and tough. On the two occasions we purchased a sandwich at lunchtime they were poor quality and the accompanying chips were rubbery. Our room on the 5th floor was nice with amazing sea views and comfortable balcony. Our kettle leaked water from its base but this was swiftly replaced and a leak from the ceiling was quickly repaired. The rooms were always well cleaned but the towels and topping up of tea and coffee was sporadic. The hotel is well laid out with what was a cold outdoor pool and a heated indoor pool but theres plenty of loungers. We didnt use the gym or spa facilities. The grounds are well kept and you can either take a few flights of steps down to the village below or a longer easier road walk. The village has some nice bars and restaurants and we paid 20 euro each for a return boat taxi from the harbour to visit Debrovnik Old Town. Ubers are also readily available and reasonable (19 euro from the airport) or the hotel can arrange Taxi's for a bit more. Its a perfect environment for Mosquitos and I got badly bitten so if they like you too take some spray as the hotel shop charge 12 euros for a small can. Im glad we stayed at the hotel but given the cost of drinks, lack of entertainment and quality of food we wouldnt book again.

Dear Guest, Thank you for sharing your detailed review. It's great to hear that you enjoyed your overall stay, especially the excellent staff, beautiful sea views, and the cleanliness of the rooms. We appreciate your honesty about the areas where the experience could be improved, particularly with the evening buffet, quality of sandwiches, and some inconsistencies with towel service and tea/coffee replenishment. It's good to know the hotel responded quickly to issues like the kettle and ceiling leak, and that you found the grounds and pools well-maintained. Your tips about mosquito spray, the boat taxi, and Uber options will certainly be helpful for future guests. We're sorry to hear that certain aspects, like the food and entertainment, didn't meet expectations, but we're glad you still enjoyed parts of your stay. Thank you again for sharing your experience. Kind regards,
