Nestled close to the old town and the beach, Amfora Hvar Grand Beach Resort's location is frequently lauded by travelers. While the rooms earn points for cleanliness, some guests find them cramped and outdated, suggesting a need for refurbishment. The hotel's service shines overall, especially the attentive pool staff and concierge, though a few visitors have experienced less-than-stellar interactions at the front desk and slow beach bar service.
The resort atmosphere is a blend of dated and delightful, particularly in the lobby and dining areas. The amenities, including the pool and breakfast variety, are popular among guests, but opinions on value are mixed, with some feeling the high prices don't always match the room quality.

Detailed Reviews
Stayed in this hotel in July 2020 with 6 other people. All staff were wearing masks and done very well with the COVID situation.
We booked the Deluxe room with a sea view, however, didn't realise the deluxe rooms don't have a sea view. They gave us a superior room with a sea view which was overlooking the pool and sea.
The breakfast was a Buffet, however, you have to sanitise when walking into the restaurant. The food and staff at the pool area were lovely and the food at the pool was delicious. We went to the dinner buffet one evening, which was okay - nothing special - I would recommend going to some of the beautiful restaurants in the town for dinner.
The rooms have toiletries, however, there are no tea/coffee facilities in the room.

Stayed at the Amfora for a week with my husband, we were disappointed from check in onwards. We had paid for a sea view room and the view we had on our balcony was partially of the sea and pool but mainly of a grubby roof below us so we didn’t use our balcony.
The breakfast set up was awful. We felt so uncomfortable eating there, only staff wore masks and everyone was using the same utensils and it was super busy.
The gym was just a tiny room with some dumbbells and cardio machines. It says only 2 people can use it at a time but there was no one to check that and often there were a lot more people in there at once
The pool area was not relaxing at all. There were children everywhere. There are 2 pools, but there were children in both, making lots of noise and splashing about so don’t choose this hotel if you want to relax
Our room was small and there was an issue with the toilet flush but the bed was very comfortable and the room was cleaned daily although the shower gel, shampoo etc was not replenished daily. They also did not replenish the bottle of water that was only there on our arrival. The air con was very good.
The beach was lovely but you don’t have to be staying at Amfora to use it and even if you are staying at Amfora you have to pay to use the sun beds!
When you get off the ferry there is a van waiting to collect your luggage which is nice. No need to inform the hotel of what time your ferry is
The location of the hotel is excellent, right in the centre and close to everything
We would not stay again, it’s ok but definitely not worth the price we paid.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
The location is the best part about this hotel, only a 10 minute walk to the heart of Hvar, however we felt that the hotel lacked energy and character. Some staff were friendly like the baggage guy but no one was overly friendly on reception. Our room wasn’t very clean, the lock was broken on the door, the cupboard door inside didn’t work, there was no aircon in the lobby where our room was. The pool bar was disorganised, it seemed hard to order a cocktail and took some time, also the pool area is very crowded (probably due to the hotel charging for sun beds on their ‘private beach’). Trying to order eggs or an omelette would take 20-30 minutes at breakfast, it doesn’t seem hard to serve fried/poached eggs in the buffet area in mass.
Another positive point however was the baggage drop off for the ferry, meaning you don’t have to lug your bags around the town.
We few like this hotel has the potential to be amazing, however it definitely lacks an energy, almost as if it knows the location is amazing and doesn’t have to try to push themselves to the next level.

I never write bad rewievs, but this hotel really needs one, since it's so expensive, but it is not worth the price in any aspect.
Location: very good, because town Hvar is just a ten minute walk away from the resort.
There's a lack of parking lots. Absolutely nothing is free, everything is extra charged and pricey, you can't even get a free glass of water, you have to pay for a bottled water all the time. So I would suggest, that you go in to the store and buy loads of water.
The staff was nice and helpful.
The room was very small, I did not look so small in the pictures... we didn't get the room with the sea view, since it was so much more expensive, just because of that. The closet was so small, I could only hang a couple of things, so we had to keep our clothes in a suitcase!
Room cleanliness was not good, I feel like the staff only gave us fresh towels and made our bed, the floor on the balcony was messy, it even had cigarette ash on the floor, so I'm guessing they didn't even clean the balcony after the other guests left.
The air conditioning was not working as I set it sometimes, or it did not want to turn off.
The hair dryer is installed inside the closet, which is not practical at all.
The food was not good or tasty. Breakfast was always cold. And I thought, it was because we went around 8 am, but the last day we went before 7 am, and the pancakes were cold and dry. Fruit tasted good one some days, but after a while, you could notice, it was not fresh all the time.
Dinner was awful, there was not a lot of options and the taste of food vas very bad.
We had lunch at the hotel Lobby bar almost every day. We tried the burgers (chicken and beef), which tasted good the first two days and then one day I got a cold burger with old, dry, bread, so even lunch was not good all the time.
The beach si quite small and very crowdy, but at least you have deckchairs. The only bad thing is that the people, that were not from the hotel, were using them too.
For this kind of money, you get a lot better resort in different countries, with amazing food and service.

Unfortunately the Amfora hotel does not live up to the reviews in 2020 as it appears that what was possibly once the 'grand Amfora' has sadly expired it's "grand" status. It's now just Haven holidays in Hvar.
We’re not ones to leave negative reviews especially in the world of 2020, however having been excited about the hotel having read lots of fantastic trip advisor reviews, we felt it our duty to give a honest review of the Amfora.
The decor is tired and peeling at the walls, the colour schemes and furniture is outdated, "affiliations" advertised all around the hotel with neighbouring businesses (such as beach clubs etc), we were informed they were no longer in partnership and the food (which we were told by the general manager is the thing they are most proud of) is poor at best.
We were staying half board but after our first experience of dinner that accumulated in zero cutlery on any of the tables, dry scraps of subpar meat and withered cold vegetables, we requested that this aspect of our stay was removed only for the General Manager to tell us 'these are technical things' and thanked us for the review (?)
The following morning, we went for breakfast and I don't know where to start. On the face of it - a great selection, but on closer inspection, the fruit is dry and tired, food not fresh, the hash browns cold and greasy and much of the other food cold (ever consumed a cold pancakes?). We figured that perhaps the reason for this is we consumed breakfast at 9am, but alas, on our last day to give the hotel the benefit of the doubt we went for breakfast at 6.30am. It appears that little did we know, they infact save the highest quality food for post 9am and they possibly left breakfast out the previous evening to save time? See photos attached taken at 7am (half hour after breakfast opened).
Overall, if this was in the UK the hotel would be a poor 3* at a push and likely subject to many poor reviews. We paid a fortune for what was poor/ok in parts.
If you are a family with kids, aren't bothered about food and just want somewhere like Butlins but a bit hotter then this is ideal for you, unless you get a great deal for a quick sun holiday.
The views are great, the island is beautiful, the location of the resort is good (Hvar is small) but the hotel is tired & expensive for what it is and must do better for the price.
Look elsewhere, I almost guarantee that unless they refresh the hotel in the next few years, this hotel will sadly decline into disrepair which is a real shame as it could be incredible.

Beautiful family friendly hotel, on a wonderful location, approx. 10 mins walk to the city.
The hotel actually looks much nicer in reality than on the photos. Both the lobby area and the restaurant are modern and nice.
The pool is amazing, with spectacular views on the sea.
The kids pool is also really great and very convenient for small kids and toddlers.
Great:
Reception: Employees very polite and helpful.
Room: As expected based on the photos, from our point of view nice.
Breakfast: Great variety and we especially liked the Egg station- the cook was really polite, and the eggs really tasty.
Location: easy to find with the car, good street directions, or 10 mins walk on the promenade to the old city.
Space for improvement:
Restaurant: the waiter’s should ask before they take the plates- sometimes they were to fast.
Room: the housekeeping benefited from the fact that we always did our beds after we wake up, so they have barely done it, only once when they changed the bed linen. That should not be the case, regardless of how tidy the guests are.
Dinner: the water and soft drinks are not included in the “half pension”, so that is nothing bad, but we didn’t know that. At least water would have been appreciated.

Our family loved visiting this hotel. The staff, amenities and morning breakfast were absolutely spot on! Very family friendly and they did a gret job managing under the covid situation Hand sanitizer was readily available at various points of the hotel and I always saw someone cleaning the elevators. We would love to return sometime in the future!

The hotel location is good but the rooms were very small. Mentioned that it’s a king bed whereas it was queen. Housekeeping was terrible, they just supplied towels but no cleaning or changing beddings for the entire stay. The breakfast hall was very crowded and no social distance between tables at all.

Our family has stayed for four nights In a ground level suite this beautiful hotel/resort.
The hotel is fabulously located, with unsurpassable views and easy access to nice town beaches. The cascading pool with a waterslide, jacuzzi, water geysers etc was favoured by the whole family, but children made most of it. While the design of the suite could be updated, it was nevertheless well sized, comfortable and clean. The staff were very helpful and everyone we spoke to, from the concierge through the waiters to the cleaning staff, had a smile and a piece of advice or a tip for us. Very enjoyable stay!
