First off let me say I have been staying at the Palace on Hvar on and off for 17 years and am very fond of it as it is a great place to stay and has an unrivalled position looking out on both the sea and the harbour and of course you are living in what was formerly a Bishop’s...

We arrived in Hvar and were very pleasantly surprised by the location, I mean you cannot fault it and I would certainly suggest using this hotel based on this alone especially if you plan to only sleep there however we stayed for 5 nights and by the end we were more then ready to depart. The outside and reception of...

Our experience in the hotel was horrible. Not only the hotel rooms need a good refurbishment, but the toilet was not clean, the shower was leaking and the water couldn't be drained correctly. The rooms were noisy, dark, very small and we almost couldn't move around and leave the suitcases. We had 2 events (one a noisy wedding) during the...

Rooms are in desparate need of renovation. No dedicated power point for guests. Bathroom was from another era. The bed needed a new mattress. No airconditioning. How could this hotel possibly be rated 3 stars. Only saving grace was the location.

It may be historic, however it needs a refurbishment. In our room the reading lights were on the opposite wall to the bed. The bathroom was......interesting as were the electrics. I could not get the ceiling fan to operate. It certainly is not expensive as the room tariff includes breakfast. It is sad that the infrastructure, such as the one...

This place was gross. Really gross. My travel agency put me up there saying it was a "3 star hotel with a 4 star feel." Uh, no. Nope. No way. This place was disgusting. The first room we were given was so small that you could barely walk around the bed (it was a sea view upgraded room). It reeked...

This Hotel has the most perfect location and the views from the terrace are amazing. However the rooms at the back of the hotel are dark and gloomy, creating a rather depressing experience. Breakfast was shockingly bad, the worst coffee I have ever tasted, on the second morning I enjoyed a lovely breakfast elsewhere. Unless you can afford one of...

This hotel is right on the front by the promenade. The old town sits right behind, and with great bars and restaurants all around, it is a perfect location. The rooms were ok and they locked our bikes away overnight. It was a bit noisy at night - but that's why you go to Hvar, right ?

Fantastic location, friendly helpful staff, clean, unbelievable buffet. But in desperate need of renovation. Everything is so old, broken and basic. Pool is sad. You are, basically, paying for the location.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
In 1869, Empress Elisabeth of Vienna was so impressed after discovering the city of Hvar, that she encouraged the building of the iconic Palace hotel and contributed to the financing and design. From the beginning the hotel was a great success welcoming guests from all over Europe establishing Hvar as a famous destination as it is today. The hotel has graciously aged charm and character mirroring that of the island. History lovers will also enjoy its central location, which provides romantic views of the ancient piazza and neighbouring buildings such as St. Stephenʼs Cathedral, and glorious sunsets over the bay. Guests can dine at the San Marco Venetian terrace overlooking the yacht harbour immersed in the heart of Hvar's historical architecture. ... more   less
