Beyond the staff, the hotel itself is very nice. The rooms are comfortable and clean. You cannot drink the tap water, but they provided sufficient bottled water in the bathrooms.
The restaurant buffet breakfast offers American standards along with local Ecuadorean dishes and eggs/omelets cooked to order. Dinner at the restaurant for a group of 8 (including kids) was delicious, offering local food and kid-friendly options. The daily special was a choice of two different fishes, and two people in our group wanted to try them both, So, we ordered one of each and the staff had no problem portioning the fish so that my fish loving friends could try them both. Again, another example of "no problem, we will take care of it".
Cons: street noise inside the rooms, outdated decor
Pro-tip: some establishments use the word promotion to mean happy hour so if you ask for happy hour and you don’t get anything, try promotion.
Traveled here for the first time in November. Great location in terms of places to eat and ease with which to experience Guayaquil. Across the street via a connecting bridge is el mall del sol. Many places to eat there, but a must try is the Noe Sushi. Excellent quality and worth the splurge. Also one door down was Red crab, see my review but bottom line it was excellent. We largely stuck to seafood due to the proximity and freshness of the seafood here near the coast.
The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The only negatives about the room is their dated decor and loud street noise. I think that is because most windows have a smaller window that allows it to be opened for fresh air. The glass is also single-paned. We were upgraded to a junior suite and it was very nice. Large, comfortable and great bathroom.
Service was impeccable. The doormen, security, front desk, housekeeping and the like were all genuinely warm, friendly, and happy to see you.

The room was nice and the linen clean. The bed was very comfortable. There is a nice pool and gym, with hot tubs, sauna and steam room for the more adventurous. It can be very hot in Guayaquil so using all these facilities may be limited. The woman on the pool reception was super friendly and cheerful. Note, no pool or hot tubs on Mondays, maintenance day.
We had access to the executive lounge on the 8th floor for breakfast and evening snacks/drinks. The staff working in this lounge were very friendly and helpful. Limited English but we got by with our pigeon Spanish. The hours of the lounge varied, however, and didn’t seem to follow the published times.
The location of the hotel allows for quite a few fast food restaurants but not really any higher end eateries close by. We ended up using the hotel restaurant Cooks and this was below par throughout. Again there was a language problem so we didn’t really know what to expect. Food turned up at different times and side dishes failed to appear, at all. It was a bit of a circus. One night we ordered pizza and this was a fail on all levels and was undercooked (see separate review).
There was a three day seminar on in the hotel during our stay and the bar area was commandeered throughout, which was slightly annoying.
The eating facilities were disappointing for a hotel of this standing. I would expect a bit more from the Sheraton.
As a BonVoy Gold Elite member we negotiated a late check-out on our last day. However, only minutes after normal check-out time we had two members of staff at the door plus a call from reception (at the same time) asking us when we would be vacating. At this point I had to negotiate another late check-out wondering why the first one was not recorded on file. This is most annoying. Again now what you would expect from the Sheraton.
Reasonable stay with nice room and bed, but don’t expect plain sailing.
The coffee maker in the room I wasn't a fan of, I prefer a drip maker or a hot pot over the pod coffee makers. Ecuador has such good coffee it seems a shame to use the pods which are not environmentally friendly. Would have liked a microwave in the room like hotels in the US, but I know that is an oddity overseas.
The cardio machines in the gym were very good but the weights left something to be desired. No barbells are available, just dumb bells and a curling bar. The one bench for lifting was a tad wobbly and needed to be replaced. The weight machine is also very dated and not in the best working order. It definitely threw off the routine for the week I was there. The pool is a tad short but long enough for laps and very nice.
We speak Spanish but the front desk receptionist had flawless English. They had a great room service menu which was perfect b/c it was late evening and we were starved; I loved the soup!! They also have a lounge if you are in the Bonvoy program with nice apps and drinks for happy hour.
Eddy in housekeeping was so kind and he made our stay! Mall is also right across the bridge with restaurants or if you need to buy anything like flip flops or pharmacy items.
Would like to recognize Jose Icaza who helped us resolve the storage of some frozen items that we didn’t have large enough freezer in the room.
This is a 4-5 star hotel that for US traveler is priced at the 2-3 star level in the US.
Strongly recommend.
The food at this hotel is very good and the staff is very friendly, respectful and offer great service, specially Fernando at the Executive Lounge, he's always anticipating your needs and willing to go an extra mile to make sure you are pleased and taken care of.
The only reason I don't give this hotel 5 stars is because the hallways and rooms need updating, other than that great place to stay.
