My girlfriend, I and 3 others all stayed at this hostel for 3 nights. The first night we shared a dorm and it was definitely worth the money. Room was cozy and the beds slept well. 2nd and 3rd nights my girlfriend and I got...More
This hostel is great. It is walking distance to park entrance. We got a private bungalow. They even put roses on our bed because it was our honeymoon! The food was ok but the staff was really friendly!
I had the pleasure of staying in a private cabin that overlooked the river. It was very simple, but very peaceful. Perfect location for easy access to Semuc Champey.
I only stayed for 2 nights, but would have been happy to stay longer. Lots of...More
Nice staff but facilities are pretty rubbish. Most rooms don't have mosquito nets or windows so you are open to get bitten. Also the walls have so many holes in them you may as well be sharing a bed with your neighbour.
They do not...More
Thanks to all the team for that memorable journey in semuc, special mention to Jonathan and Dany! Breakfast is very good and I hardly recommend the guide your for the day in Semuc! There are things you wouldn't see without it!

If you're in a hurry, from Flores there should be tourist shuttles that depart at least once a day for Lanquin. Don't pay for a "private" shuttle or a "VIP" service or an air-conditioned van; the person who takes your money won't be the same person that drives the van, so when the van stops for gas, food, pick-ups, drop-offs, inspections, or cigarette breaks, or the AC "stops working", the driver will only shrug when you demand better service or a refund.
If you would rather not be crammed into a van with a bunch of gringos, and have some time to spare, take the local buses. Unfortunately when I did the trip I came up from the South, so I can't advise as to the best stop-off points; the trek from Coban to Lanquin is gruelling though, so if you can find a way to go the other route, it may be worth a shot.
As other posters mentioned, on arrival in Lanquin you'll be swarmed in touts. Try to find the one from El Portal; if you don't have any luck, you should be able to hop into the back of just about any pick up for a very reasonable price (which also, unfortunately, escapes me at the moment). If you can't find the free ride, try not to get ripped off.

"The shared bathroom/showers were nice enough that I wouldn't pay the extra money for a private bathroom..."
