This was my second time visiting the hostel, and was there for a week this time. I stayed in the two bedroom apartment (same as last time). There was a mini fridge with freezer which was the perfect size as the major grocery store is one block away. There is a two-burner hot plate stove and bare necessities for pots and pans. There is also hot water in the apartment, although the hot and cold handles are opposite to what I am used to - hot on right. The air conditioning kept things cool. It is within walking distance to Sandy Bay beach and local eateries that make excellent baleadas that are very inexpensive. It is also within walking distance to Sandy Bay Divers. It is convenient to walk to the end of the street to catch a bus for $1 US to West End. Wifi was sketchy at times, but for $8 US, you can get a sim card and 12gig of data that lasts for one week. Top-up of data is $4/week. Mel directed me where to walk locally to purchase this. The atmosphere is excellent, with guests from all over the world. Mel was a great host, and very knowledgeable of the Island. Overall, I had an excellent stay!…
I loved my stay at Roatan Backpackers Hostel. Mel, the owner, is awesome - she has a wealth of information about Roatan - diving, sightseeing, transportation and restaurants. I stayed in private room Cando Jr 2, which was located in the back corner and quiet. Hostel has a kitchen as well as a separate restaurant. The hostel also has several areas to hang out / relax - upfront by the kitchen, upstairs and by the pool. Thank you again Mel, I look forward to coming back.
One of the coolest and true hostel experiences! I started with 2 days and came back for 2 weeks. Great base for divers and close to cheap local food, grocery store, laundry services, and the Sandy's Bay Beach. They have an affordable restaurant on site and a large communal kitchen. The owner Mel has snorkling, scooters, and even car rentals to make things easy. There are many room options, so you can find the perfect room to relax. Plus you'll make friends and feel part of the family!!
RBH is centrally located in Sandy Bay, minutes from West End & West Bay areas. There’s a local grocery store less than 5 minute walk and the plenty of transportation options. Highly recommend the stay.
Stayed there 9 days and I will come again for sure on my next trip on the island. Staff are friendly and helpful. Location is close to the airport and West End and the pool is awesome ! Thank you again Mel 😊
The host was great to talk to friendly and very helpful with information about the island and what to do and pay. For a place to lay your head with a restaurant, pool, and 5-10 minute taxi ride from west end I’d say it’s worth the money. Pool was clean. Grocery store a short walk away.
This hostel is just perfect, you will meet nice person to have a good talk, because backpackers hostel just have people with good vibe. the kitchen have all the utility you will need, room and bathroom are clean. The pool is just so necessary in the afternoon, it fresh and clean. And the owner Mel's will give you the best recommandations and will make your trip a perfect adventure! Thank you so much
I booked a 3 day visit at the Roatan Backpackers Hostel and I ended up staying nearly a month. You can stay, but you might never leave! It is a very unique place. Dipping in the pool on the really hot days was a life saver and luxury you don't get at most Hostels and it doesn't take much for a pool party to develop, especially on $1.50 Margarita Mondays. Another thing that makes Mel's Backpackers' Hostel a huge treat are all the staff, which also include Mel herself. Yes, there is a Mel and she bends over backwards to provide any assistance or advice required for your adventure on Roatan and the surrounding area/Islands. Mel's Backpackers' Hostel also has a kitchen where you can save money by cooking your own food as well as a Café if you are feeling lazy. The next time I'm back in Roatan, I'll be staying at Mel's.…
This is a great location, so close to everything west end, but not in all the craziness of west end. Parking is available. I enjoyed my pool time. I didnt eat at the restaurant on this trip, but I did have drinks there, and yum! A great budget place, close to everything, always a nice mix of people from around the world hanging out.
Roatan Backpacker’s Hostel is one of the best hostels I’ve stayed at in Central America! The property with the pool and all the gardens is a lovely and relaxing environment. The communal kitchen is well equipped. The owner, Mel, and all the other staff members are friendly people and keep the property well-maintained. 10/10 would return
