You can feel at home at the Roatan Backpackers Hostel. We had a wonderful week there. The location is not quite central but still good. With the Collectivo you can reach the West End in just a few minutes and there is a good supermarket and food options right around the corner. The hostel is cozy and has everything you need, so we would come back at any time. The hostess Mel and her team are also super nice and helpful.

My wife (55) and I (57) just got back from a wonderful eight-day stay in Sandy Bay, and we were fortunate enough to spend the entire time with our friends at Roatan Backpackers Hostel. Mel, the owner, makes sure there are great amenities such a lovely pool, communal kitchen, beautiful plantings throughout, great rooms and wonderful service for whatever you need. It's easy to get to the tourist areas in West End and, from there, West Bay, but you still get to come back to a quaint little town to get a good night's sleep far away from the revelers who want to party. Trips to West End are easy to get, and cheap. Supermarket is nearby, as are some lovely comadores with some of the friendliest people you'd ever want to meet. And the friendliness extends to the hostel, where you will meet people from all four corners of the globe interested in meeting you and sharing stories of their lives and travels. Forget the all-inclusives where you'll feel like a number, and where the only culture you get is with an hotel employee. At RBH, you blend with the locals and their cultures on a daily basis. And get over the idea hostels are just for 20-somethings. A great mix of all ages keeps you young and helps you stay in touch with all ages. We will certainly be back to Roatan, and we wouldn't stay anywhere other than RBH! Thanks, Mel!

My favorite hostel! Beautiful property, lovely pool and communal areas, and the staff are extremely knowledgable and helpful! The restaurant offers delicious low cost breakfasts and snacks. This hostel feels like a second home. I would never stay anywhere else in Roatan!

This hostel just has the family vibe, everytime you wake up in the morning you are greeted by people even if you just met them. I have met a lot of friends at this hostel mainly because of the group chat you have the option of joining when you are there. I have stayed at a lot of hostels through out my life and I have to say this is one of my favorites that I will be returning too from time to time. Mel the owner of the hostel is great with giving you recommendations through your orientation when you arrive. The people staying there are not afraid to voice there opinion and reccomendations of the island as well. My favorite time or memory is when we all organized a snorkle to sandy bay and westend through the group chat supplied through the hostel there was a total of ten of us but ended up with eight of us through the day so fun (snorkle squad)

I stayed in the Casita for a week with my two boys (20 and 16) and our experience was exactly as expected. We always choose hostels for the community, the feelings of coming home at the end of the day and the reasonable cost (since we are never in our rooms very often on holiday). Our unit was clean, quiet and had everything that we needed to allow us to choose whether to make our own simple meals or partake in Mel's cooked to order breakfasts. Mel was extremely welcoming, and she or another member of her team was always accessible to answer any questions we had to help us plan our days. Her recommendations for places to go/eat, who to take a scuba course with or rent a car from etc, were bang on. We rented a car and driving to West End, Coxen Hole or other locations from the hostel was a relatively short, albeit, bumpy, drive. There were plenty of locations to hang out and relax in hammocks or chairs and read or do work if needed. Overall, we had a great stay and would definitely book again should we return!

Mel (hostel owner) is incredibly helpful and runs a great hostel. She provided local tips on what to do and what not to do (especially when dealing with taxi drivers) I only stayed one night but met a couple of travelers to hangout in West End with. I would go back and stay longer with Mel anytime

I had a great experience with Mel at the Hostel. The Hostel was great, very clean, very organize, and Mel (owner) was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about where to go, what to do, and how best to get there. I will definitely stay with them again at the Roatan Backpackers Hostel on my next visit to Roatan. Thanks Mel!

Belkis, Trisha, and Mel were all very accomodating for my stay, and took care of things quickly when needed, including repairing my toilet and helping with logistics. I unknowingly arrived in low season, and was surprised to find the cafe closed, but it all worked out with the great comedor and a barbacoa stand up the street from the supermarket 5 minutes away. I then discovered the Bialetti in the kitchen for my morning coffee. I originally had booked a dorm, but upgraded to a private and am so glad I did. It was tucked in the back corner away from the road/kitchen/dorm, where it was much quieter and I slept great. The pool and hammocks were fantastic for late afternoon relaxing after mornings of snorkeling or diving. I really enjoyed staying in Sandy Bay with the locals vs West End with the tourists, and loved taking the buscitos for $1 each way to West End for my dive classes/snorkeling. Can’t wait to see what Mel has in store for the future and hope to make it back someday to check out Guanaja.

Great hostel that was a lot better than expected. Just stayed for one night so didn't meet a ton a ton of people but the atmosphere was social. There are plenty of common areas for people to congregate and the pool area is nice. The owner Mel is awesome and has really good advice about the island!
