Cellphone reception as of 2016 Dec is weak or no signal in most areas. For emergency, they have a phone at the reception which can be used on request.

You could try Vattakanal. This has many guest rooms that are cheap. It is nice there with good views. It's also much busier and lots of noise and little privacy. Shops for food etc are very close which for some people is a... More
