We travelled in June and the public car ferries were running from Krabi, continuously. We organised a transfer through the hotel and their car used the ferry. My understanding is that the hotel's boat transfer service doesn't work in the off season but there is no problem getting to the island. The transfer took about an hour and a half and was very comfortable. It was definitely worth the trip. Carolyn

I would describe Layana as pleasant and civilised in the evening. Not loud but plenty people around so you don't feel you are staying in an empty resort. The bar, restaurant and beach bar are all adjacent to each other and most people have drinks before or after dinner even if not dining in the resort. 5-7pm is happy hour and perfect for drinking cocktails at sunset. We used to go for an hour straight from the pool and then change for dinner but other people arrive around 6pm ready and changed for drinks before dinner.
On a Tuesday evening there is a wine reception (complimentary wine and nibbles) and that is a nice social opportunity to meet other other guests.
We have been three times and always met other friendly guests to chat to throughout the day and evening.
It is also quite easy to walk along the beach to other bars and restaurants or jump in a taxi to Saladan where there is more of a nightlife.
