PROS: Hotel is nicely located on the remote east side of the island in the beautiful Tanote Bay. Wich is a great spot to dive or scuba. We stayed 3 nights there, just enough for our PADI open water diving certification. That was pretty much the highlight of our stay in Montalay. Robert (the diving instructor) is very nice and...

We booked 3 nights here after everyone on our holiday recommended koh Tao. We booked room with a/c, room was fine and was clean. Pool area was average.... with NO sunloungers, people were sitting on chairs with plastic chairs to prop their feet up! Beach was stoney, there was a beach bar, the sea was the best thing, crystal clear...

Our 'Eco-Cottage' was really old, moldy, smelly, wet and way to warm. The fan did not change a thing about it. Staff was really unfriendly. WiFi was really bad as well. Just the beach with Tanote Bay was really good. If you are on Ko Tao, rent a bike and ride down to this beach but do not stay here....

A good hotel if you want to be secluded and get away from everything, would probably be a good spot for a romantic getaway (if you pay for the more expensive room that is). Other than that, read below - Pros: -Nice beach/bay (but only half of the area - the area all the way down towards the far right...

Nice looking hotel with poor service, except for Kiet, he has been one of the best in Thailand. Rooms were dirty and there were some bugs in the rooms. Bathroom was unhygienic. The beach was also dirty with trash, broken glass and some drug needles, wouldn't recommend to walk without shoes. No one was cleaning the hotel beach area. Pros:...

First of all the staff was so uninterrested, rude and not serviceminded at all. When they were answering the simplest of questions, they talked to us like if we were idiots. The room didn't have aircondition, just a fan.. wich was a nightmare. Everything was dirty; the room, the cutlery, the tables.. just everything. The beach was full of garbage,...

The hotel offers little bungalows in the "jungle" as well as nice rooms in a 2 story building that is nicely integrated with the nature ( can't be seen from the beach). The staff is...let's say... not the friendliest people but efficient. Forget the breakfast! Buffet style but not very good to be honest. As for lunch and dinner I...

We stayed for three nights in one of the newer accommodation buildings...tastefully decorated with a stylish bathroom. Air-conditioning quiet and perfect TV reception. Friendly staff who had excellent English. Gorgeous view from the pool area of the beach. The only negative of Tanote Bay was LOTS of rubbish / plastic washing up on the beach as it was very windy....

We arrived as thousands of litres of water was heading through the reception/ restaurant, the main road going to Montalay Beach resort had power cables down, land slides, water shooting up out of the road. Crazy crazy times.... But even in this disaster we could see what a lovely hotel we had chosen. And the spirit of the staff was...
