The beds are really confortable and clean with courtains that give you privacy. They included in the rate a completed breakfast in the restaurant from of them, that make the place really valuable for the money and the pier is just in the corner. Also offer all they long cookies, coffee and tea for free.

The aircon is also pretty good for the hot weather of the island.

The best sunset View form the beach near by, 2 mins walk.

I stayed here for 5 nights. Rolph was incredibly helpful with where to get laundry done, who sells the safest motobikes, local bites, ECT. It's a bit rustic, but you're also on an island in Thailand. Cheap to boot and just around the corner from the ferry. Keep earplugs on you in the evening. It's not on a busy road, but noise travels. As a solo, female backpacker, I felt safe in the area and would recommend.

This is very good place to stay in Koh Tao. The location is just perfect, 2 min walking distance from the pier. In the common area there is coffe, tea, bananas and sweets available all the time. Wifi is working as it should in whole property. Just cross the street there is a restaurant where you can get a breakfast, very good by the way. Clean and hot water all the time. Very helpful staff. In the office you can organise your trip and buy a ticket to anather destination. The greatest value in this place is the owner Johnny. He is amazing person, taking people for free every day for hikking in very nice places in Koh Tao. You can rent a motorbike from there and also get a discount in many shops just showing the key of Centeal Hostel. Good time, great value for money.

I am a bit baffled why the reviews of this place are so good. The photos suggest is it airy and bright -- it is in fact the darkest, dingiest place I have ever stayed. The bathrooms, like others have said, are stinky, and for the entirety of my stay the toilet seats were lying in a broken heap next to the toilet in every single stall. While the smell might not be fixable, this certainly is. There is no storage space, teeny tiny lockers, and a bizarre vibe. It is a 40 min walk from most of the action (though I must say I don't mind the area by the pier where it's located). The redeeming elements are the walls between beds, friendly staff and free snorkel gear. But honestly, you could spend a little bit more and have 100% more.

Three of us were learning to scuba dive with Crystal dive, the hostel was in a perfect location, approx 2 min walk to the dive centre, pier and beach. Rolf, the owner was extremely helpful and uthe hostel itself was one of the cleanest we have stayed in. Would stay here again!

I spent in Central Hostel 5 night during my staying in Koh Tao.
After the first 2 nice nights at the beginning of my journey I booked again a bed in the hostel.
I slept in a 14 person dormroom, crowded, but I felt to have my own privacy thanks to the separation between beds.
There were lockers in the room but I noticed that a lot of people left their valuable objects, like pc, on their bed. I felt safe too. The manager keep your passport to ensure security.
Bathroom were clean and staff very friendly and helpful.
Welcome free drink.
Location is perfect: near the pier, no need to call a taxi when you reach the island. Nearby supermarket, restaurant, pharmacy, clinic, money exchange. Only 10 minutes walking to Sairee Beach.
Quiet and silent at night, loud music places are far.

I stayed here for around 2 weeks and whilst diving and the owner Rolf really went above and beyond what was required. When I had my cards stolen he was more than happy to buy me dinner and drinks until I got my finances in order. Scott from the Island Travel office downstairs is also great and handy to have around.

The rooms and facilities are absolutely great, very clean and comfortable. The location is also really important. It is far enough away from the nightlife for a quiet nights sleep which is vital if scuba diving the next day but within a ten minute walk so if you do want a night out its easy.

I met some absolutely wonderful people at the hostel including Rolf. It is easy to be sociable at the hostel and the bar opposite offers a small discount for people staying and also offers a free pool table.

I'd like to really express my thanks to everyone associated with the hostel and particularly Rolf. If I return I'll have no hesitation to stay here again.

Excellent hostel, friendly and extremely helpful staff. The staff go out of there way to help whether it be regarding the hostel, the island, or further travel. The hostel is fresh, well thought out and cleaned constantly throughout the day. Reviews said the hostel was a long walk from Sairee Beach- it wasn't. Maximum 10 minutes to reach the start and perfect location for the pier for onward travel. Not having a common room was zero issue, and Reef bar ( excellent food) had a reserved table where hostel stayers can gather, additionally discounts are offered in multiple locations, from food to tattoos.

Stayed here sept 2014 for almost a week. Im not really a backpacker normally but this was a great surprise. Clean, quiet, comfortable. Free wifi, air con, very cheap, good location and a great bar right across the street where unless you are completely inept, you will meet many other travellers and holiday makers. The owner is very accommodating and will help with everything he can.
I liked this place so much 6 friends moved there for the remainder of their stay.
If there is space here, book it.

My friend and I stayed in this hostel for 5 nights. The location is great (close to the pier but about 20 mins away from the main strip of bars on Sairee Beach). The staff are really friendly (especially the girl on the front desk, forgot her name but always enjoyed talking to her). The owner Rolf is a friendly guy who was great for directions and other general advice.

The beds were comfortable but space was at a bit of a premium. I would recommend staying in the bigger dorms as they are the most social ones and from which I made some really good friends who I ventured to Koh Phangan with.
Toilets and showers are okay, there's a weird smell from the toilets but you get used to it. No common room sucks but people usually just chat in the dorm rooms.

Would also recommend getting an ATV/quad bike as they're so much to ride around in and less dangerous than a scooter (don't get one, so many people I know crashed theirs and got hurt). You should be looking at paying around 500-700 baht for 24 hours.

Apart from that, enjoyed my stay in Koh Tao. The hostel could be much better (the dorms are really dark for one, lighting could be improved) but it does the job. Also do the Koh Tao pub crawl or you're missing out!
