Rim Pai Cottage is in a prime location in Pai. The best location. Smack, bang in the middle of all that is happening. Literally 2 metres from the main attraction, 19 elevated bungalows sit in a sumptuous garden landscape welcoming you to Pai. We are certainly not the cheapest place in town, plenty of backpacker dormitories around if you are into that kind of thing, nor are we the most expensive. What we do offer however is quality and peace in a beautifully crafted garden. If you ever come to Thailand and not visit Pai, you'll be missing out on one of most relaxed and hippyfied towns in all of your entire world. Pai is a beautiful, quiet little town in Northern Thailand and is host to the excellence that is Rim Pai Cottage.

I stayed 4 nights at Rim Pai Cottage. I booked it because of its central location. It’s set in beautiful, luscious green gardens just a few short steps from Walking Street. I was greeted warmly upon arrival and check was very smooth and efficient. The gentleman at the front desk carried my pack for and took me the ‘long’ way around to my cottage so he could show where to find the pool and the restaurant for breakfast the next morning. My cottage sleeps two and had plenty of space. The guy had high ceilings and while it is equipped with an air conditioner I didn’t need to use it at all because the room was cool enough. I had my own private little deck/patio. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting out here each afternoon and evening with my book. The deck had a light and Power point for phone charging. Each even someone came around and lit a new mosquito coil which sat in the corner of the deck. There is plenty of parking in the attached lot of you have a car or rent a scooter during your stay. At night you can hear the live music being played at one of the nearby bars, but it is not obnoxiously loud and seems to finish somewhere between 11-12 each night. This might not be so good if you’re a light sleeper. Breakfast was made to order from a simple menu which was more than enough for me. The only negative for me was how hard the bed was was. I would definitely recommend they get some softer mattresses on future. This wouldn’t stop me from staying here again though. It’s like paradise right next to Walking Street.

We had a lovely stay here. The owner upgraded our room, which was definite cottage cross Lanna style with a beautiful big balcony overlooking the Pai River (great for watching the tipsy tubers floating past!). The room was very comfy and nicely laid out. Best location - the walking street comes alive every single night right outside the front doorstep, and cafes, bars and restaurants line the street. Easy reach to everything on foot, and a great base to scooter around the mountains exploring. Lush gardens and staff very friendly.

The most amazing hotel! I can not explain how nice the staff are we were made to feel at home straight away. A lady (owner I think) even supplied us with a floating flamingo one day for the pool. The rooms are perfect, big cool and practical necessities were all there (mirror, clothes hanging space, hairdryer). We had a bridge to a big terrace on stilts overlooking the water. The pool is excellent and I was so gutted to have to leave. The music at night finishes around 10 pm and honestly, I was never trying to sleep before then so it did not bother me or my wife. Great location right on Pai walking street. Also plenty of parking for cars and bikes. OH and the included breakfast is great fresh fruit and eggs and unlimited coffee!

This really could be a great hotel/resort but just missed the mark every time!

We first stayed in a single twin room but due to faulty hot water they kindly offered us an upgrade. The new room was better but still outdated for the price that we were paying.

Prior to arrival we explained that we were vegetarian and vegan and would there be an option at breakfast for us. We were very excited when they said that they were trialing a new veggie/vegan menu and would we be willing to try when we arrived. However when we turned up at breakfast we were offered fried rice (yummy you may think) however it was only rice, no veg, sauce or anything!

Our stay was in January time and the mornings were freezing, when we spoke to the management about this they offered us more blankets but they barely took the edge off the cold. We asked about heating but apparently quote 'its not worth the money for just 3 months of the year' so not the best attitude.

We then became ill (not the hotels fault) but with a combination of the bad attitude of some of the staff, the freezing temperatures and ridiculous breakfast we ended up checking out early. We were not offered a refund.

If someone spent a little time, money and energy this would be a great place but I would not recommend this for the money that we paid.

Response from LIU D, General Manager at Rim Pai Cottage
Responded Jan 30, 2020
Sincere apologies for your dissatisfaction but in offering you more blankets, the staff only did as you asked. As regards breakfast, your remark is especially unique as you stayed for 5 nights without complaint then request a refund. Your hot water experience is however valid. There were 2 similar mechanical failures on the same night. Not just yours but another hot water tank burned out also. My suspicion is they were all installed at the same time from the same batch. These 2 rooms have since been closed. 8 new machine replacements have been ordered to pre-empt any further incidents. Note: After a mechanical failure, the staff followed protocol by offering you a free upgrade to which you wholeheartedly agreed. Thank you...

This was our third stay at Rim Pai Cottage and each and every time it has been a delight. The staff are friendly and go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and comfortable. The rooms are clean and the bed is comfy. On our first visit we were lucky enough to get the honeymoon suite which was outstanding! The other rooms are still great though and it’s lovely and soothing being able to hear the river from the room. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back! Thank you so much for another brilliant stay, Jonathan & Laura.

Stayed here two nights on a motorbike tour of the Mae Hong Son loop.
Wonderfully warm and friendly reception set the tone for the whole visit.
We were shown to our lovely cottage, on a nice riverfront piece of property. Comfy bed, and great breakfast the next two mornings. Not 5 star accom, and doesn’t advertise itself as such. We were pleased we stayed and would return.

Near the Pai river. Lots of small teak bungalows with bathroom, Lush garden setting. Soft Beds!!! Very clean, flowers everywhere, mosquito netting over beds, wood teak floors. Each room has a sink, toilet, celing fan and either inside or outside showers. Can hear the birds. Some rooms have A/C, no tv, no telephone, located on a quiet side street but just a block from the town center. Will stay there next time we are in Pai. Don’t think it includes breakfast which is okay because all the restaurants serve breakfast really cheap and are just a few minutes walk away, breakfast usually just $1. Their website is ----. Check their website.

I stayed at Rim-Pai with three friends last November and we all agreed that it was fantastic. The cottages are clean, well maintained and have everything you need while still maintaining a cool, rustic feel. The property is right along the Pai river which is very nice and the grounds are awesome. The beautiful trees, cottages, grass and scenery make you feel totally removed. To top all of this off, the service was impeccable. Everyone at the front office was very nice and helpful and we spent a lot of time with the owner, Eddy, who was also really great. The Rim-pai also offers complimentary breakfast every morning which was seriously amazing. It included eggs, granola and yogurt, fresh tropical fruit and juice. This had to be the best breakfast in all of Thailand. When we talk about our trip, my friends and I still talk about how good that breakfast was. The rimpai is also in a good location, right on the main road, very central. I can't say enough good things about it. While it's not the cheapest place in Pai and may not be the best choice for someone on a tight budget, I thought it was well worth it and would definitely stay there again and again.

All we know this is the best place in Pai. We stayed here for 5 nights and we can't think of anything bad to say about this wonderful oasis in the middle of the busy center of Pai. The Staff is super friendly and never a grumpy face. The service is awesome, even got my girlfriend some complimentary cake for here birthday. The garden is beautiful with chicken, roasters and hedgehogs. The roasters can be a little loud sometimes but they are funny to watch. We wanted to stay in the Glass house (which is brilliant) but had to stay in the more luxurious looking Garden Superior bungalow for 2 nights because the glass house was booked already. After the 2 nights we moved to the Glass House, bags carried :) The Garden Superior had a more stylish feeling to it but the Glass House (in the middle of the garden) was, for us, the perfect stay. Nice and light with that beautiful thai bungalow feel to it. Breakfast is included and is good. Fresh towels and bed every day and the place has the perfect spot in town. Step outside and your in the middle of the happening, step inside and you got yourself some peace and relaxation. Top spot!
