difficult decision to rate this little gem or not. We were there as a family of 4 with two older kids and for us it was just perfect. Basic but with a lot of heart and authentic as it could be. But you have to know what to expect, no luxury, nothing fancy, no party...But going out with the kayak...

We stayed here in Dec 2013. We were fully aware of what others wrote and we could expect. Basic accommodation with running cold water and a bathroom open to the outside so spiders etc would be there. We were also expecting healthy local food and an Eco environment. We also knew internet connection there would be difficult so staff responses...

It sounds like from your description that "not well run" is incorrect and that it is more like "we weren't able to enjoy the place due to our children". We have had many adventurous families stay with their children and love the place. Sorry that wasn't the case for you.

Arrival by Longtail to land on a deserted pier jutting out from golden sand into a deep blue sea, being met by a member of staff and a luggage cart to stroll thru the jungle on brick paths to the lodge is an magical start to the holiday. We stayed in o the older lodge but the one nearest the...

THIS PLACE IS ONLY FOR NATURE LOVERS WHO AGREE TO PAY DOUBLE FOR DOUBLE LESS !... 1) Poor accommodation : bungalow has no cabinet/wallet to allow clients to store clothes during the stay, no basic interior furniture/design, no bedside tables, nothing making the accommodation a bit warmer or personalized… No water heater, no towels. Many ecolodges BOTH RESPECT THE ENVIRONMENT...

I'm sorry you didn't appreciate the ecolodge. It sounds like your main grief was do to the price. And to that I can only tell you that it is very expensive for us to run this place, a private island in-holding in a proposed national park. We have to bring EVERYTHING BY BOAT, even ice to keep your beer cold....

We stayed 7 nights on Koh Ra and we enjoyed it very much. The bungalows are simple but clean, well built so you feel alone. The beach is clean and again, you feel alone! And you can find a spot in the shade almost all day long! Everyone was very friendly and helpfull. If you are afraid to have nothing...

I mean it is really like in the film except for the drug dealersn (there are none) and the beach is not white but golden. No Streets, no Shops, no Scammers, no Pubs, no drunken people, no restaurants just pure nature and nice people. The Beach is lonely and when you are lucky you can have it all for yourself....

Looking for a laid back, superbly managed island retreat a short distance from the frenetic Phuket world. Koh Ra is just that. We spent 5 days on the island enjoying a magnificent beach a two minute saunter from our beach house. The only people on this palm tree beach were the same friendly people with whom you share an amazing...

There are so many places you can go to in Thailand if you are looking for a nice quiet beach. But Koh Ra Ecolodge has to be at the top of the list. What a great little island, rain forest, secluded beaches, mangroves and best of all the lodge is the only thing there. No cars, no motorbikes, no 7/11...

A wonderful secret, we are almost reluctant to share, as Koh Ra is definitely off the beaten track. It has everything you need though, wonderful bungalows, much above the Thai average. And the owners are the sort of people who go straight to your heart and stay there ! Do make Koh Ra part of your visit, and experience a...

I was fortunate to spend 2 nights at the Eco-lodge. Not having any expectations as my visit was booked by Anderman Discoveries, there was an immediate wow....striking mountains, dense rainforest and pristine beaches. The lodge facilities are spaced within the beach/forest fringe, the birdlife are your neighbours. I really think the beach could be a "secret" surfing spot at certain...

“Others have commented on the noise of fishing boats passing Koh Ra early in the morning. They do and they can be heard but it's not a big issue. If timing for transfer to Koh Ra is awkward you can stay overnight at a very clean and very inexpensive motel in Kuraburi - Boon Priya resort. Grab some cooked food at the street market and get your boat the next morning. Koh Ra will book it for you if you ask.”
