We went here based on tripadvisor reviews and we had a nice stay! The owner used to own a dvd store and he still has a couple of 1000 dvd's to watch in your room. It was really nice to relax in bed with a dvd after some months traveling :-). The owner is a very kind helpful man and... More

We arrived at the Sandakan airport around 9pm and simply based on reviews of this place I told the taxi driver to go here - everything about this experience was what we wanted. The owner was at the front desk when we arrived and luckily had a room open! Impeccably clean sheets and made bed, perfectly working AC, an LCD... More

Thoroughly recommend this hotel, and endorse the comments of others about the helpfulness of the owner. An additional critical tip - buy warm beer at the little supermarket around the corner, and cool down in the big fridge at reception (difficult/impossible to find cold beer in Sandakan)

Functional place to stay in. Very clean, very comfortable bed, very fast internet, lots of plugs in the room, and a collection of DVD in the reception. It was just what we needed. The owner is very organized.

Very clean rooms with a big tv and dvd-player each, cause the funny and kinda picky chinese owner offers a huge dvd collection - well-sorted by movie categories - to his guests for free. His wife cleaned the rooms every day very accurate. Since he apparently is living 24/7 behind his counter at the reception (at least he was for... More

We went to May fair hotel after getting a recommendation from the taxi driver and a local tourist office. The hotel looks pretty simple from the outside, almost not worth getting in .. But when we went upstairs we were positively suprised, great rooms, basic though very clean, good working ac, flat screen with a DVD player (and there is... More

As other people said: this hotel is of great value for money. The room looks a little bit like hospital room (decoration is not the main focus) but are also as clean as in a hospital! You have everything you need in here: many Power outlet; towels, soap, cold purified and boiled water, shower with hot water, place to put... More

We stayed here for 2 nights a few weeks ago. Great value, super clean, great security! The Mayfair is owned and run by Hoi Shiuh Lam - for the last 35+ years in fact!! The bathrooms are a bit old, but everything works and everything is very clean. The rest of the decor is, shall we say, 'a little blue'??!!!!... More

The room is big and very clean, much cleaner than a lot of motel in China, all the facilities are in good condition. Moreover, the location of the hotel is quite good, near the sea, bus station,... I would highly recommend a stay at the May Fair Hotel. Me and my girlfriend stayed here for about four nights and loved the place. The owner is from Hong Kong and is very helpful when trying to sort out transpotation or things to do in the area. I am pretty sure the cleaner has got OCD as whenever we... More
