A tranquil oasis with warm breezes, unbelievable sunsets, and good food, including ice cold beer for lazy afternoons in your hammock! Activities abound when you're inclined: horseback riding to a volcanic waterfall, kayaking to Monkey Island or the serenely beautiful Istvan River, hiking around two volcanoes, and fishing in Lake Nicaragua. Ester and Alvero are welcoming hosts who are happy...

We read that the owner was more interested in the school than the "hotel." And it's true. And, in the grand scheme of things, that's great. He and his team have done a wonderful job of bringing ecologically sustainable construction and education to an impoverished corner of the island. But I went there for accommodation, not education. So... we were...

Stayed 3 nights, room was simple but fine, large screened windows, great covered porch with rockers and a hammock for two. Two fans in the room, food at the restaurant was just ok, but there are options nearby. Sunsets are incredible.

We choose Hacienda Merida for it's location. We heard that the Merida part of the island near Maderas Volcano was much more remote and quieter than the main part of the island. It was! It was a 3 hour bus ride, or 1 hour taxi to reach. Most of the roads were paved, but became gravel closer to Merida. The...

The hostel is located very nicely directly on the lake which is pretty nice. We slept in a dorm which is also alright and the bathrooms are ok. They are quite clean, there are just some bugs which you cannot do something about. You can find quite a lot hammocks around and the whole hostel is like a little park....

We stayed for 3 nights at Hacienda Merida (in total 6 nights on ometepe). We loved the location, relaxed atmosphere and view onto the lake. Food is nice too (especially the Porridge for breakfast); it's merely non-nica food and not really cheap. (Tip: if you want to enjoy really good nica-food try restaurant/comedor 'Margarita' (didn't found it on Tripadvisor or...

I've been to Hacienda 3 times and am just looking at my calendar to book my fourth trip. I can't wait to go back. Actually, the owner and his family joke with me about leaving my clothes there since they KNOW I'll be back soon! They're friendly and hospitable, and interesting to talk to. I started out as a tourist...

This place is a little harder to get to by public transport but the view and tranquility is worth the journey. Take a kayak out on the lake. There are many nice walks you can do. Food portions are good and the fresh juices great! The only thing I would say is bring the most potent bug spray you have...

I Agree Jen... Actually mosquitos are a problem during the heavy rainy months (September and October) but it's wear that we have been getting rainy days during this days... I'm sorry... Thank You so much for your comment! We really appreciate it! Esther Vargas

Yes, this place has great reviews and an amazing sunset. The pier is fun to lay on, jump off of, drink a beer and watch the sunset on. The food is good and the kitchen staff is really good about safe food handling, using bottled water for coffee, and general cleanliness- although it can be a bit pricey. Albeit other...

Hacienda Merida is absolutely beautiful. It's quiet, peaceful and the sunsets are absolutely amazing. The atmosphere here is very relaxed and it is definitely not a party hostel. The nature is so untouched, and it is in a great location to hike the amazing Maderas Volcano or hike to the San Ramon Waterfall. They also have kayaks here, and they...
