It's interesting: I had a chat with an Italian tourist on the way back, who explained his theory that tourism develops through several stages and that Aguas Calientes was still in the first stage of development. I couldn't agree more. Apart from the setting, it is very hard to find anything attractive about the place (Machu Picchu is magnificent, though,...

Pirwa was a reasonable place to stay in Machu Picchu Pueblo, where everything is overpriced and underwhelming. We booked for two nights, and were happy with the standard of the room. It was clean and had 24-hour hot water. We had a nice view over the town, and it was reasonably quiet. There were a few issues with the room,...

We were expecting a standard hostel with clean, simple rooms. This hostel is old, which is too be expected. But it is also dirty and in disrepair. Everything in our room was falling apart. The free breakfast was a simple roll. Our room looked out onto slums which were noisy at night. Worst of all, our sheets had clearly not...

The hostel is located on a hill on a side street of the main street of Aguas Calientes. Breakfast is included and served from 4AM to 8AM (which is nice since most people will leave for Machu Picchu at 5:30AM). The breakfast itself is very simple (tea/coffee, bread, butter and jam) and the bread tastes really old (both days we...

I spent quite a bit of time (on the interent) trying to find affordable places to stay in Aguas Calientes and ended up here, not really out of choice but because it seemed like the best deal available. The water from the shower was virtually non-existent and we didn't bother with the breakfast of stale bread and jam. But, it...

Pirwa is relatively expensive at $35 USD per night for a hostel. Its location may have something to do with it. Machu Picchu is fast on its way to being a tourist trap ($14 for bus ride, $45 for one day at Machu Picchu, and inflated prices for accommodations). There is nothing remarkable about Pirwa. The place is moderately clean...

Good and simple hostel and good value. My room was clean and confortable, with TV and hot water. The staff were very friendly and helpfull. They were waiting for me at the train station. The breakfast is simple, but ok. Good location. Free internet. Nothing to complain.

Aguas calientes is one of the worst places in the world but a starting point to get to Machu Picchu. Hostels and Hotels in Aguas Calientes are ridiculously expensive, but Pirwa gives you excellent value for your money. It is not a charming place, but it is clean, service is nice and there was nothing to complain about.

The receptionist Julio even provided valuable tips- do´s and don't, even regarding my allergic reaction! Julio provided us individual maps! The location is...
