Ate here, so didnt stay. This place is located in lovely extensive grounds within the Ancient City of Anuradhapura. The building itself is lovely, a colonial style administration building. The furnishings are nice teak wood planters chairs etc. Very stylish. So what lets it down? We arrived at 1630. It took 5 minutes to receive the menus. We chose our...

Lovely place to stop off for refreshment whilst touring the temples. Very good service, super sweet, lovely staff and a nice range of non alcoholic drinks. Set in its own grounds surrounded by nature (including monkeys) it is a former British Governors residence put to much better use!

Went to have lunch at the Sanctuary during our visit to Anuradhapura. After a hot half day of visiting the extensive ruins, the hotel surrounded by greenery lived up to its name as a sanctuary. The hotel is a throwback to an older - more gracious time. The architecture and furnishings are quintessentially colonial. We received a very warm welcome...

My wife and I stayed here for two nights in late Feb. ‘17. It is the kind of place we enjoy – lots of character and old-time charm. The hotel is a converted old colonial mansion, set back from the road in nicely landscaped grounds that are great for birdwatching. The location is excellent, just a short bike ride to...

We came here after a long day exploring he city. Safe to say we were thirsty. The drink menu was 75% unavailable! We stayed for dinner after the thunderstorm and were not impressed by the food either. It was just tasteless. Too bad because the place has potential.

The location is excellent. The de lux rooms were quite comfortable. Food (for the Sri Lankan palate) was tasteless and bland. Rice and Curry did not have any flavour. Possibly because its cooked with foreigners in mind. The staff (what little there were) were friendly and obliging but overworked. The place is seriously understaffed. We felt that there was probably...

he only nice thing is the building, which has had it's best time. The food took forever (even for Sri Lankan standards) and was tasteless. We got our mains with our starters and we were shooed out of the restaurant as soon as we took our last bite. They turned the wifi off at 10 sharp (in the middle of...

We stayed here two nights and always ate at the restaurant. This place is splendid, an ancient colonial house with a big garden full of flowers and trees. It is very close to the archaeological site (yet I would advise you take a tuk tuk from the hotel to tour the ruins). The food was delicious, sometimes service would be...

We broke up our days cycling to have lunch at The Sanctuary. Fantastic service and lovely food in a relaxing and calm atmosphere. The hotel and restaurant is aptly named. Look out for the Grey Langur monkeys playing on the lawn.
