We spent the day at "HPH", walking with Emil in the morning and then having a Sri Lankan feast with the whole family in the afternoon. We were only there for lunch so didn't see the rooms available, but can report that the hosts are charming, excellent raconteurs and a fascinating immersion into the real, beyond the tourist brochures Sri...

Thank you very much for your glowing recommendation of Halgolla Plantation Home and Arlene and I as hosts and raconteurs. We are so glad we were able to meet (exceed?) your expectations and sincerely hope that we will have the pleasure and privilege of hosting you again, for, perhaps, a longer time. Please do keep in touch in the meantime.

I spent two nights over the new year with Arlene and Emil, and only wish I had more time. They are warm and loving, and made me feel right at home. I checked in here hoping to catch up on some reading and writing, but found myself spending hours listening to Emil's wonderful life stories, eating way too much amazing...

If this is the person we believe it is, suffice it to say that it was an absolute delight having you with us and your generosity and good company will always be remembered and welcomed at HPH!

We stayed for one night and all the meals were authentically Sri Lankan with beautifully made string hoppers, dahls, sambals, boiled egg, fish and chicken curries. Aunty and Uncle were so welcoming it felt as if I was visiting some of my own relatives but also a family history museum. Throughout the hallways and dining room there were lots of...

It was such a pleasure having (relatively!) young people to share HPH with. It was unfortunate that health challenges prevented us from showing you more! However, we look forward to seeing you hear again and not only securing HPH.a It was such a pleasure having bright and intelligent guests such as you two. The breath of fresh air that youth...

Probably my favourite place (of our 5 week tour). Arlene was a great host, kind, open, willing to share her life and beautiful home with us. Excellent food. Direct encounter with history of Sri Lanka. I also found the hosts very inspiring.

Though I can hardly take any credit since health issues resulted in my being absent at the time of your visit, we are both so glad that you found HPH such a great place and we hope you'll return before too long!

My friend and I spent 2 nights at HPH and I could not recommend it highly enough! Firstly, Emil and Arlene were very hospitable and you felt instantly at home. My friend and I had a problem with our credit cards and so one day Emil drove us to town, talked the banks etc and helped sort this ou. A...

Some places that you go to stay will always remain special, and some will become places that you will always feel like they were home, and such was Halgolla. We are keeping in touch with Arlene and Emil, in our short stay we became quick friends and the knowledge that they imparted to us about the land, the history, the...

Guests like you are so very important to us - those with whom we really "connect" and who become true friends to the two of us who aren't getting any younger! Thanks so much for that and we do hope we'll (truly) have the pleasure of your company again before too long.

The climb up to Halgolla Plantation Home is the first adventure and indication of its quiet beauty. The views of gorgeous sunsets over the mountains while sitting on the front porch sipping a cool beer and chatting with Emil are our favourite memory of this home stay. The food was terrific, rooms very comfortable and Emil's hospitality delightful. Walking around...

Thanks very much for your kind and congratulatory words, Liz. They are most appreciated. We do agree with you and it has been the expressed opinion of the vast majority of our guests that you need at least a couple of full days at HPH to really savour what our Homestay offers, both in our home and in the surrounding...

We are so glad that, once again, we have met our primary objective: having our guests arrive as visitors and leaving as friends. In return, all we can say is that we appreciated your company as much as you, apparently, did ours and we hope we'll see again before too long!

“Look carefully at the description and choose the best room for you. We liked our large and airy room adjacent to the parlor/dining room, 2 of the rooms are just off of the this area, I did not see the other room.”

“HPH only takes seven guests, so rooms are luck of the draw, but they're all charming. Oh, internet access is at the whims of a dongle and uncertain transmission, so be patient. It works - eventually.”

“The standard is of course not as for a five-star hotel, but quite above at least our expectations. Depending on what activities you are after the whereabouts of HPH could be good or bad. We felt it a perfect place to have as a base-camp.”
