I spent 3 nights at the Kandy House in late December. The house - an old manor house - is beautiful and situated on a quiet hillside beyond the hustle and bustle of Kandy. The atmosphere is absolutely fabulous and sitting on the veranda enjoying tea, coffee or various delicious cocktails while listening to the sounds of birds, rain, and...

Very lovely hotel with fantastic views over the valleys, great food and lovely room with a private garden and terrace. The Chef has a different 3 course menu every day for lunch and dinner and breakfast is a wonderful selection of Sri Lankan and European food.

We stayed here for two nights over Christmas including Christmas Day. The property itself is stunning, slightly outside of the hussle of kandy centre but peaceful after a day touring. The service cannot be faulted, attentive without being invasive. My only complaint as with other reviews was unfortunately our room. Cornelian.. too small for double occupancy, dark during the day...

Kandy House is gorgeous: the gardens are beautiful, the pool a delight and the house a treasure trove of beautiful art and furnishings. Top of the list here are the highly attentive service and the consistently excellent food. We loved the evening entertainment laid on as well - an incredible band on the first night, a wonderful dance troupe, the...

I stayed here for 2 nights, and while the property itself is wonderful and historic, I left feeling a little disappointed with the overall experience. Our room (Sunbeam deluxe) was stylish, with high ceilings and antique furniture, but lacked some amenities that should be standard in a hotel of this quality. The pool area was wonderful - it feel very...

Enjoyed our stay at Kandy house. The space is lovely. Beautiful pool and gardens. Large suite with private garden where we were able to enjoy breakfast away from other guests. Viewers should be aware that the space is a converted house and not designed as a hotel per se. The dining menu was a fixed 3 course menu, delicious, but...

4 nights in two rooms at this "home style" hotel. Service was discreet and exemplary, always with a smile. Excellent food (wouldn't be out of place in a top London restaurant). Grounds beautifully tended and the furnishings were authentic, interesting and tasteful. We stayed in Cornelian and Lime Butterfly and saw all the other rooms. Sadly Cornelian (despite being one...

Wonderfull restored house where you get all the services as you would expect. The drive to the hotel would not let you believe such a tranquility lies behind the gate. Dinner service is alacarte and well executed with friendly and relaxed staff. Arrive in time to enjoy the pool! Toilet is separate but bathroom is in the room.

Everything about this hotel was quality, the accomodation, food, service and grounds are superb. A little off the beaten track, it is quiet and relaxing, offering spa treatments as well as superb service. The infinity pool was unexpected and stood in a peacful part of the garden. It is my favourite hotel from a recent holiday in Sri Lanka. We were on...

Epitome of a boutique hotel. The service was the best and most pleasant I have experienced world wide. It's a melange of always being present without being noticed, at the tips of your fingers. Pleasantries, without having to ask, are actualized. It's location has the same flavor as it's service. A hidden gem just within the city. Lush vegetation abounds...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Kandy House is a unique ancestral manor house (walauwa) providing seclusion and serenity for its guests in a lush, tropical garden setting, close to Kandy. With only 9 bedrooms, this Kandy hotel, aims is to give guests an experience of staying more in a private house than a conventional hotel. Traditional Kandyan architecture has been blended with Bawa-influenced modern, polished titanium cement floors and bathrooms. In the gardens, a stunning infinity pool has been landscaped into the hillside overlooking the rice paddy fields. Delicious European fusion and Sri Lankan cuisine is on offer. Well-placed to spend time to relax as well as explore a broad selection of Sri Lanka's primary destinations in the Cultural Triangle and Tea Country, including the Temple of the Tooth and the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. The house can also be booked as a whole for important celebrations with friends, or just for the peace of mind of a group having total privacy away from the public eye. The Kandy House also makes an ideal honeymoon hotel in Sri Lanka, in a quiet peaceful setting, honeymooners can enjoy the infinity pool, private dining, yoga or massages. ... more   less
