We've spent 3 nights in Kandy, and have chosen the Freedom Lodge following a recommendation in our Rough Guide. Bottom line - it deserves its recommendations. Clean and comfortable rooms (much better than similarly priced guesthouse in Colombo), very reasonable price, and a very friendly staff. Above-average quality dinners are also offered. The place is walking distance from the city...

We stayed few days in Kandy during the Esala Perahera in August. First night was at the Freedom Lodge, a place strongly recommended by Lonely Planet and to be honest this "Guest House" should even not be mentionned in the guide. Nothing to meet the eulogistic comments of the guide : noisy, dirty shower, hard bed, and a buffet like...

We stayed in Kandy one night and Fredom Lodge has been an excellent choice. The hotel is located in the city centre, just few minutes above the lake. Our room was clean and cozy, and the staff very fiendly and gentle.

Very friendly and welcoming family! The rooms are nice and simple, the breakfasts are good and the family can help you plan your trip! This place feels like home and offers good prices... Dont believe the tuktuk stories about this place, who try to lure you somewhere else where they do get provision!

Stayed here for 2 nights, you re welcomed by a warm and very friendly family. The room is spacious and comfortable, hot shower, mosquito net etc. Wifi is freely accessible. Food which is served as a buffet is tasty! Great place!

We were a little anxious coming into our first homestay hotel with our 5yr old daughter at the beginning of our trip, but Sarath and his family were brilliant hosts, making us feel very welcome right from the first phone call through a 5-night-stay! To get to our room, we quite literally had to walk through their living room and...

We rang on our train journey and were quoted 20,000 rupees, however when we arrived we were were given the choice of the 2 most expensive rooms (30,000 rupees and 25,000 rupees) - these were the Penthouse suite and another large room. When we looked at the room we were ecstatic - even though we were travelling on a budget...

Sarath is an absolute gentleman and a magnificent host. We booked the penthouse suite and had a lovely night time view of the temple of the tooth from our private balcony. Would heartily recommend the freedom lodge.
