We didn't stay here, we were staying at Elephant Bay Hotel, but we kept coming here for dinners and drinks. What a beautiful setting, away from the main street, so quiet, and the pool looked fantastic. We asked to see the rooms - I wish we had stayed here instead of where we did. We looked them up on Booking.com but it says 'sold out', apparently they're in some kind of dispute with them and this must be a tactic - contact Villa Pinnawala directly - they have rooms available! Beautifully landscaped too

We had booked at Villa Pinnawala Homestay for a family suite, but that place is under renovation and the manager booked us into Villa Pinnawala instead. Clean rooms although bathrooms are under average, nice staff, good beds and A/C. But this is not a hotel, so no other travellers around... And a bit further so you have to take a tuk tuk instead of walking to the orphanage and the river... It was our first night in Sri Lanka and quite a disappointment. If you are looking for a villa it is ok

What a lovely place! Nice pool surrounded by rice paddies. Villas are spacious with great bathrooms open to the sky but with modern fittings. WiFi and TV if you so desire. Good food at cafe at very reasonable prices and just across the road from the elephant orphanage round the corner from their bathing spot.
It is all very elephanty here!

Horrendous overpriced dreadful hotel. Rooms were unhealthy and falling apart with mould on the wall. Food (dinner and breakfast) was disgusting. Terrible slow service Staff friendly - but what a waste of time

Adequate room and large clean pool. Hotel struggling to accommodate off season hospitality, main affiliated restaurant not open so had to eat in the ‘pub’ which has higher priced menu with the same food options. Staff require a bit more experience to make guests feel welcome. Power cuts out several times, can be can’t startling at night with the air con shutting on and off. Limited simply of hot water however there is natural water to shower with also.

We was there only one night. Our friend Kamal from colombo shows us this accommodation and restaurant. We really enjoyed it. Swimming pool only for us. New bungalow with wifi (sometimes not working good). Staff was very friendly. Recommend this place

We stayed at Villa Pinnawala for one night during our two week tour of Sri Lanka. Upon arrival you definitely get backpacker hostel vibes as there is a pub located at the front of the property. We stayed in a room located in a little cabana next to the pool/and restaurant. The room was compact and acceptable although grubby. The mosquito nets had holes in them and it definitely could have benefited from a deep clean, with stains on the bedding being particularly off-putting. The bathroom was huge, with a stand alone bath tub and open shower. It is quite nice although if you need to turn the lights on at night you are an easy victim of mosquito attacks. The pool area is very small and I found a huge clump of hair in the pool, the whole outside facility will remind you of a motel pool. One positive is that it is located directly next to rice paddies and the view is luscious. We had dinner in the pub (which is a really strange atmosphere because it is inside, cold and there is a DJ). The food was completely acceptable although nothing special. During the night we were woken up at 4am by an animal on the roof, probably a squirrel, which we could not get rid of. The hotel staff were very helpful and did manage to eventually make it stop, as well as offering for us to relocate to another room. Breakfast is poolside and you can have eggs and toast, service is slow.
Overall, I wouldn’t choose to stay here again and it definitely wasn’t a treat, but it was manageable and we had a decent meal,

We had really delicious food but we had to wait 15 minutes to order a drink eventhought there were 2 tables. We ordered 2 foods- pizza and Pinawala Villa starter. My girlfriend wanted just starter so we asked if He can bring both of them at the same time. After 30 minutes (almost one hour from our arriwe) our drinks were empty but starter came. When we ate (I had to eat starter too i was so hungry after that time) the starter the waiter came for plant but we had to tell him on his leave that we want some drink. At the moment it is one hour from ordering the main course we are still waiting. We will see....
But as I said. Starter was delicious and the other table was also really satisfied with food. So if you are ok to wait for more than hour for food we recommend. ..... OK AFTER 1 AND HALF HOUR THEY TOLD US THAT THEY DO NOT MAKE PIZZA 😂😂😂 so I ordered a sandwich for reccomendation of the manager to get some food fast. You see a photo of this "sandwich" in attachment 😂👎👎👎 I go sleep hungry and angry.

My friend and I stayed one night to catch up with friends. We stayed in the standard room which was nice. It had all the amenities we needed and the bathroom and room was clean.
We had a few initial problems with the staff dealt with quickly and were very friendly.
The down side is that the food is bad so we had to get a tuk tuk to the nearest town for pizza.
We wouldn't stay again as there is not alot to do, we only came because of the elephants. The food isn't great which is why I gave them an average rating.
I would not choose to stay here agin.
