We stayed for 3 nights in August with twins aged 9. Wild Grass is a fabulous location, tucked away in the jungle but near enough to the nearby sights of Sigiriya Rock, Dambulla and Minneriya National Park. The bungalows (brings up a totally different vision in the UK) are stunning, contemporary and excetionally clean. To wake up in the middle... More

From Dambulla you follow the signs down track after track, until you reach the most peaceful setting we have ever stayed in. Our welcome was lovely, we were the only people in the whole 8 villas so we got our pick and they drove us around to choose a Villa, brilliant. Positives: 1. The staff were all friendly and approachable,... More

We had a great time! Very special place, extremely quiet. We loved the bungalows: Very comfortable with beautiful contemporary decoration, amazing view on a lake. The food is excellent (Try their buffalo milk yogurt called "curd and treacle", the best we had in Sri Lanka). The staff is just great (Very kind and helpful).

The villas are wonderful and of a much higher standard than the food and the bar. The location is fantastic and the staff are very friendly, however we feel on the whole the hotel needs better management. The bar was poorly stocked and the food was mediocre but the whole hotel has serious potential.

We had a very pleasant 3 -day stay at this boutique hotel. There are only a few private villa's wich are located in the middle of a beautiful nature reserve overlooking a lake. Magnificant designed villa's all are different and very private. With maximal comfort and lovely outdoor bathroom. The service of the staff is impeccable. Most tourist head for... More

Prime example of a hotel in a lovely location being let down by poor attention to detail. The food was very uneven and improved when the executive chef returned after the weekend. The room was good in some respects, large and good rain shower but curtains/blinds were appalling so light streamed in and it was difficult to get a good... More

The staff is very friendly and helpful. The dinning hall with roof and no walls allows breeze come through which is very pleasant. I love the curries. Villa is quite spacious. The location is good i.e. reasonable driving distance from Lion's Rock (about 30 minutes) and Minneriya Park (40 minutes). You definitely need a car staying here. Things to improve:... More

We stayed at Wildgrass, along with our 3 kids (14, 12 and 10), for 3 nights. This place is off the beaten track and definitely has a wow factor. We were staying in a family villa: 2 bedrooms and bathrooms (with outside showers particularly enjoyed by the kids) plus a living area and a couple of terraces. The villas were... More

Management response:

Dear guest, Thank you very much for your positive review. We are happy you enjoyed our concept and were able to see the forest life. We are particularly honoured that the children enjoyed their stay as it is usually very difficult to get children to like the quieter places! Look forward to hosting you again. More

Only 8 villas well spaced out, in the middle of the forest. Staff is warm and friendly, and accommodating. Would certainly come again. It was quite windy and noisy at times at night therefore, but that was the only downside. A great nature getaway, really well located for cultural and natural outings.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestled in the heart of an enchanting forest, amongst the whispers of trees and magical birdsong, there exists a slice of paradise. Surrounded by jungles, a lake and the Kandalama hills, Wild Grass is a welcoming eco-retreat located in the Cultural Triangle between Sigiriya and Dambulla. Wild Grass is set amidst 30 acres of unfenced forestland that is frequently visited by rabbits, deer, wild boar, monkeys and over 40 species of birds as well as the occasional wild elephant. It is the ideal location for nature lovers, whether families with children, couples or honeymooners, who wish to enjoy their holiday disturbed only by the sounds of nature, while enjoying the ancient history and marvels of the cultural triangle. A strict nature conservation philosophy is followed here and much is being done to preserve the natural eco-system. Organic farming methods are used to cultivate fruit and vegetables for the resort's own use with the balance requirements purchased from the adjoining village. The unique feature of Wild Grass remains its exceptional natural beauty and absolute solitude afforded to the traveler seeking a perfect rest. Intimate and secluded, the resort limits itself to just 8 villas in the entire property, adequately spaced out to make privacy the ultimate luxury. ... more   less
